Chapter 12
(ED. C4) SEIJIRA ACADEMY 세이지라 아카데미I woke up in the infirmary, I was told, three hours after the incident occurred. The wound on my shoulder was completely wrapped up. But though I couldn't feel the pain anymore, my whole arm seemed like it doesn't want to move on its own.
It must be noted however, that when my consciousness returned, I didn’t open my eyes right away. I just heard the voice of Mr. Ryu talking to the head nurse about my condition. The head nurse said that I would be just fine but I need to stay overnight so she can heal me more quickly. Mr. Ryu thanked her and soon, I heard the curtains being shuffled.
“Boys,” Mr. Ryu then spoke. “You should go back to class.”
“If you would allow, sir,” I heard Luhan speak. “I’d rather stay until she wakes up. And I’m shaken up as well, sir. I don’t think I can go back now.”
“I would like to stay too, Mr. Ryu,” Suho added.
Mr. Ryu sighed. “Well then, if you must. I’m giving you two special permission to skip all your classes. Let it be clear that it's only for today. See me later at my office to get the slip. ”
“Thank you, Mr. Ryu.”
As soon as I heard the shuffling of the curtains again, I opened my eyes slowly to see nothing but the white ceiling of the infirmary. Then I glimpsed Luhan and Suho both leaning on the wall by my feet, watching me for who knows how long. Luhan’s expression was dead serious. Suho’s was of pure embarrassment. His eyes were sparkling like any second now, he would cry. Still, when I groaned, Suho’s face appeared before me in no time. Luhan followed after him in a much slower pace.
“Mi Yeon!” Suho exclaimed in relief. “Thank the ancient power of the Duireans, you’re okay!”
“Yeah, I’m alive,” I croaked and forced a smile.
“I’m so sorry!” Suho apologized and I was sure this was what he wanted to say the most. “I don’t know why it wouldn’t work so suddenly. And at that time. I’m just sorry,” he said and he bowed down.
“You shouldn’t,” I said, waving him off. “…be sorry, I mean. I’m the one who is undetermined here. If only I could protect myself, nothing like this could have happened.”
“But still—“
I shushed him. “Let’s just be happy that I’m doing well.”
“Suho,” Luhan suddenly spoke. “Can you go outside for a while? I need to talk to Mi Yeon. In private.”
“Of course,” Suho said, looking at Luhan and then at me. “Get well soon, Mi Yeon.”
“I will, thank you, Suho,” I said and smiled at him.
There was another shuffling of the curtains and then Suho was completely out of sight.
Luhan made a chair from outside moved to my side where he then sat and crossed his arms. He was giving me that look again, the exact same one he had on his face when we first met. The questioning expression. But it’s harder this time to decipher what he meant by it. He’s just not giving away his thoughts.
“Thank you,” I said quietly. “…for saving me.”
Luhan didn’t say anything.
“And I’m sorry for putting you up with this.”
Still, he didn’t say anything. I stayed silent. Is he mad at me? Yes, he’d probably be. If the situation was reversed, I’d probably be strangling him right now.
“I think…” Luhan started to speak after about five minutes of silence. “…that you’re much more different than what I’ve first thought.”
I looked at him only to be lost once again in his light brown eyes.
“Is that any good?” I asked, because now, all I want to know is what he honestly thinks of me.
“Who knows…” he said, then shrugged his shoulders.
I looked away, disappointed. That’s all? He doesn’t know what to think of me? Face it Mi Yeon, he doesn’t like you. You better listen to Krystal’s words. He’s not interested in girls so don’t you get your hopes up Mi Yeon. Plus, he’s just good-looking. He’s no better than the others—
“But…” I heard Luhan speak again.
I looked at him so suddenly that my neck actually hurt. Great, now it’s not just only my heart, my body is even betraying me.
“I suppose…” Luhan continued and then he stood up. “…that either way, you’ll still need me by your side.”
Luhan touched my forehead with the back of his hand. “Rest, Mi Yeon.”
And then he went out of the curtains.
Even after he was gone, I continued staring until the curtains stopped moving. And then, I closed my eyes and smiled.
That was all he said.
And strangely, that was enough for me.
The next time I woke up, the sky was already dark outside. Then, I noticed that Kai was there. And just the fact that he was there, freaked me out.
I mean, we’re not friends. We can’t even have a normal conversation. The only time we talked for real was on that night and it’s not even in any aspect normal. And! it didn’t even last for ten minutes.
“Oh, hey,” I croaked at him.
“You’re awake,” he said. He has that signature poker face on.
“Yeah.”
And then we went back to not talking. See?
AWKWARD SLASH ABNORMAL.
