Reminiscence
“Good morning, Haekyung ssi. How was your sleep?" Minseok's mom greeted me the moment I showed myself in the dining room. HaeSeok was already there too eating breakfast together with his father and his grandparents. Minseok looked up and smiled. I smiled back. My heart jumped slightly at the sight of him and I refused the urge to smack my head on the hard wall.
I smiled and greeted her back. "I had a good sleep, thanks for asking."
"That's good to hear." Mr Kim smiled. "Come on, join us." He said.
Since HaeSeok was sitting beside Minseok, I decided to sit beside Mrs Kim. We started to eat breakfast as we talked on so many things. Everytime Minseok's mom asked me about him and me four years ago, Minseok and his father would ridiculously hush her out. I just smiled at them as I continued eating.
"Oh by the way, Minseok told me about what your work." She muttered that made me abruptly looked up. Mrs Kim smiled as she placed hand over mine. "Don't worry, dear. We'll take care of it. I don't want you to lose your job."
I somehow felt relieved. When I looked over Minseok, he was smiling at me. "Thank you so much for heping me. I'm really, really grateful for your help. Thank you so much. I'll repay you for everything—"
Mrs Kim laughed. "Oh, don't be silly dear. No need to repay us for helping you. Besides, you're Minseok's girl—"
"Mom." Minseok chimed in, giving his mother a here-you-are-again kind of look.
"...four years ago," Mrs Kim finished off with a sheepish smile. Minseok huffed out in annoyance while Mr Kim covered his face with his palm. "You are the mother of Minseok's son, of course we'll help you. And speaking of HaeSeok, we, um, want to help you financially once our grandson will start schooling. We don't mean to insult you as the mother but we just want to help. After all, the father of your child is our son."
"Oh..." I cleared my throat. I glanced at my son and found him eating. I know he's listening but just pretending that he wasn't.
"We think that we should send HaeSeok in the States for college. If that is you, as the mother, will agree." Mr Kim told me. I travelled my eyes to Minseok and saw him staring at me as if he was waiting for my reply.
"Honey, don't you ever think that we want to get Haeseok from you. No, we will not do that." Mrs Kim squeezed my hand gently. "We just want our grandson to have a better future."
I smiled assuringly. "I know. Minseok promised that to me and I trust him. HaeSeok is in good hands for having such a wonderful grandparents even though you've just saw him."
"Blood is thicker than water, after all." Mrs Kim smiled.
"Yeah, it is. And thank you." I smiled back. "When the time comes, HaeSeok is old enough to decide on his own if ever he wants to go to the States for college. Whatever his decision, I'll respect it."
Mrs Kim cupped my cheek. "Thank you, Haekyung ssi. And oh, do you have any appointment for this day? We actually don't want you to go home just yet. We could have some bonding time together. How's that?"
"Oh, um, I'm really sorry—"
"Oh, so you're busy?"
"Um, sort of." I said. "I promise Luhan that I'll be with him today." From the corner of my eyes, I saw Minseok dropped his fork and leaned back on the chair. "I-I'm really sorry..."
Mrs Kim laughed. "Don't be sorry. Just promise me you'll come at the party this Saturday night."
"Party?"
"Yes, it's our wedding anniversary." Mrs Kim let
