Reminiscence
“You don't have to explain to me about what happened last night." I immediately told him before he could say anything else. I'm sure this was the reason why he wanted to talk to me. Maybe he wanted to explain what happened last night in his house. He didn't get the chance to explain himself because I grabbed HaeSeok with me and left. "You don't owe me an explanation so you don't have to bother yourself. I mean, it's your life. You're allowed to have fun."
"No, you got it wrong. There's nothing going on between me and Eun Mi." He told me. "She's the reason why I left Hwang's house remember? Have I told you that?"
I nodded. "Yeah, you did. But—"
"I know you've seen her in a robe but it means nothing. She broke into my house, nothing else. Nothing happened after you left. I shoved her out and made sure she'll never find the spare key again."
I don't know why but I feel happy when he was explaining himself to me. This was weird. I must stop this feeling. "Why are you explaning to me? I mean, no need for that, Minseok-ah."
He sighed. "I just don't want you to have an impression that I'm having an affair with my wife's sister. Being with her is the last thing I'd ever think of myself. Eun Mi's not a wife material. And if she is, she isn't my type at all." He sighed again. "Haekyung-ah, I hope you'll not think of me that way."
"No, of course not. I know you—I mean, I know you're not like that." I said before I cleared my throat. Eun Mi's not good for you, a voice said somewhere at the back of my mind. I feel horrible. Where did that voice come from?
He smiled. "Thank you."
I smiled back, almost hesitantly. "Um, so I'll get back to work now. My coffee break is almost over." I said as I checked my wrist watch. The last thing I wanted to do right now was to spend another minute with him. I just feel uncomfortable. In other words, I don't trust myself that much to be with him for another minute.
"Oh, yeah." He said. "Thanks again, Haekyung-ah."
Still smiling, I grabbed my purse and stood up. I left the coffee house but I can still feel Minseok's eyes on my back. Or maybe it's just me.
“Good morning! What can I do—" I didn't get to finish the moment I looked up and saw Minseok's mother-in-law and sister-in-law altogether. What shocked me most was that they were both actually glaring at me as if I have done something wrong to them. I should've bit back my greeting but I was brought up well by my parents and I was taught how to respect. "H-How can I help you, m-ma'am?" I asked. Instead of answering me back, she gave me a slap on the face. Saem, who pretty say everything, gasped beside me.
"What the hell are you doing inside Minseok's house last night? Do you know him?" Minseok's mother-in-law snapped at me.
"I told you, mom. She is Minseok's . I can't believe he stood up for her last night. I mean, what is Minseok doing? He's married to my sister, for pete's sake! He can't goof around with somebody..." Eun Mi traveled her eyes up and down my torso with disgust. "...no class and cheap."
I squinted my eyes at Eun Mi. Screw respect.
