Reminiscence
I know there's no use in denying it. He already knew the truth. There's no point in hiding it. I sighed, wanting to build up my courage as I lifted my head to meet his eyes. First off, I'm mad at him for getting it done without my consent. I glared at him but he didn't flinch even just a bit. It was clear that he has no conscience about what he had done. I want to shout at him, but he has the right to know—and I am aware of that.
"I'm mad at you for doing it without my consent." I told him. I want him to realize what he had done was unethical.
"Then what? You will sue me? Go ahead." He said, leaning back on his chair casually. No fear was written on his face. "Then I'll make sure to get the custody of HaeSeok. After all, he's my son."
"I didn't tell you he's your son."
"He is. Based on the results." He huffed out in annoyance. "Do we really have to argue about it right now? I think we missed the point of why I wanted to talk to you. Tell me everything, Haekyung ssi. I'm begging you." His eyes were pleading and I suddenly felt a lump in my throat.
I closed my eyes for a moment before I spoke. "Would you really believe me if I tell you?"
"I have the DNA resuts in my hands. What else would I not believe?"
I inhaled a deep breath as I looked at him. Then I started. "Four years ago, my father found you while he was fishing. You were badly injured. My father wanted to take you to the hospital but my mother stopped him, thinking that maybe someone was trying to kill you. That time, we didn't hear any news of accidents in the sea so we thought maybe my mother was right. So we kept you. We took care of you. When you wake up, you didn't know anything about yourself. Even your name. But then you were wearing a necklace. That necklace..." I pointed at his neck. "...and I thought maybe it's your name. So we started calling you Minseok."
"What about us? What happened to us?" I didn't know how much I feared his question until he asked.
"We, um..." It suddenly feel so hard to breathe. "We fell in love with each other. For the whole three months of being together, I fell in love with you. Hard." I simply added in my head. I couldn't bring myself to bring back what we had.
"But I left you. Am I right?" He added softly.
"T-That's because you got your memory back." I told him. I didn't know why my hands were shaking on my lap. He didn't say anything after that. Instead, he went silent for a moment. I looked away from him and slowly gulped the lump in my throat.
"So that's the reason why you really look familiar to me when we first met at the hospital." He said and that's when my head snapped back to him. I couldn't believe what he just said. Did he really say that or was I just dreaming?
"Do you remember me?" I asked him.
"Just your face. I couldn't seem to remember your name."
"Haekyung." I said. "Shin Haekyung." His lips formed an O as he slightly nodded his head.
"I remember you now. You were at the church, on my wedding day." He muttered. I simply nodded as I held my head low, looking at my sweaty fingers on my lap. I didn't know talking about our past would be this hard. I'm always hoping for this day to happen, but right now, I feel like I'm a criminal being interrogated by the police. "So HaeSeok is really my son?" He suddenly asked and my head shot up.
