Reminiscence
Saturday. I was hour early in preparing myself for the party. When Luhan arrived to fetch me, I was already dressed. I was just waiting for him in the living room while Kyungri and HaeSeok watched cartoons. Luhan came in a dark suit. I snuck a glance at myself—I was wearing a pink lace dress, it was simple but I don't think it perfectly matched with Luhan's attire.
I beamed sheepishly. "Um, can you wait for me in a sec? I'll just wear something more appropriate."
Luhan laughed as he caught my hand. "You look great, no need to change."
"But—"
"Trust me," he cooed as he kissed my cheek. "Besides, Minseok's mom is a simple woman. You'll be surprise when you'll see her later."
It took me a moment before I shrugged. "Okay," I smiled. Then together we went to his car after I said goodbye to Kyungri and HaeSeok. During the whole ride, I kept on asking Luhan if I looked okay. He told me over and over again that I looked good and that I don't have to worry about anything. I didn't ask him again after that. A couple of minutes later, we finally arrived at Minseok's place.
Minseok greeted us in the front door. I don't know if it was just me or Luhan's response to his cousin was a bit bland and cold. I just hope that none of them were going to ruin this night for me.
"Haekyung ssi, I'm really glad you came." Mrs Kim appeared and gave me a kiss on the either side of my cheeks. She did the same to Luhan. I ran my eyes over Mrs Kim's attire and a wash of relief came over me. She wore a simple red v-neck and high-waist maxi dress and Luhan was right—Mrs Kim was simple woman, though the simplicity still radiating sophistication.
"I promised you Mrs Kim, didn't I?" I said with a smile.
Mrs Kim smiled back then she looked at Luhan. "Go and find a seat." She told him before she excused herself to greet the other guests.
I peered at Minseok's direction and smiled. He smiled back. But then an arm draped around my shoulder—it was Luhan's arm. I looked at him just in time to see him giving Minseok a back-off kind of look. I gulped. From the corner of my eyes, Minseok took a step back.
"Let's go." Luhan said beside me. I was more than glad to walk, I don't want them both to be near with each other.
I sipped on the wine as I looked around through the glass rim. Luhan and I shared a table with another couple but then they were dancing on the dance floor and Luhan excused himself for a moment to go to the restroom. I was alone in the table so I decided to sip on the wine.
"May I have a dance with this beautiful lady tonight?" Someone spoke behind me and I turned around to see Minseok smiling down at me.
"Minseok-ah..." I breathed out his name, only then I realized he was stretching his arm towards me. I stared at his hand for a moment, battling with myself whether to take his hand or ignore him. But I don't want to be rude so I took his offer.
He led me to the dance floor. I put one hand on his shoulder while the other one was held together with his hand, One of his hand was resting on my back. We swayed softly against the soft rhythm of the music.
"You look great tonight," he said.
I smiled. "Thanks. Only I'm not really dressed for the occasion." I almost rolled my eyes.
He chuckled. "Who said that? Of course, you are."
I scowled. "Are you kidding me? Look at my outfit. I'm wearing a casual dress while the rest of the guests are wearing a formal one."
"Well, look at my mom's dress." He gave a jerk nod directing towards his mother. "Hers is simple."
I found myself pouting. "But still she looks gorgeous." I said and he laughed softly again.
"Don't be too hard on yourself, Haekyung-ah." He said. Someone cleared his throat and we both turned to see Luhan peering at us. I flinched, the same moment Minseok slowly let go of me. I know I shouldn't have reacted like that because we haven't done anything wrong except for dancing together but still, I just couldn't help myself. Minseok looked at me. "Enjoy the rest of the night, Haekyung-ah." He said before he gave Luhan one last look before he walked away. I don't know what the look mean but fear tingled in my skin when Luhan looked back at him with a hidden glare in his eyes.
I gulped as I lo
