Lay : Birthday
EXO Drabbles
"Xingxing! Come here~" I called for my little brother in a sing-song voice.
"Huh?" he asked, eyes filled with curiosity as he turned around from chasing a butterfly.
"Come over here, Xing~" I sang once more, gesturing for the six-year-old to come over to the park bench.
"Oh," he murmured in reply as he hurried over.
Putting my hands around his tiny warm body, I hoisted him up onto my lap as laughter bubbled from his throat.
"Hahahaa-Noona, it tickles!" he giggled, breathing heavily as he squirmed in my hold.
I placed him gently on my legs and patted his head, sparing him from more ticklish torture.
"Yixing, do you know what day it is today?" I asked him with a smile.
"Hmm... Monday?" he replied with his eyes wide, not quite understanding why his sister had asked that question.
"Yes, but what... date is it today?" I tried again, careful with my choice of words.
"October..." he started, holding up his fingers and frowning in concentration.
"Seven?" he exclaimed, pleased with himself for finally getting the answer.
Turning, he tilted his head to glance up at me. His eyes shone expectantly, wanting me to tell him more about what was so special about this day.
I let out a laugh, this forgetful brother of mine had actually forgotten this important day.
"Xing! It's your birthday! Did you forget?" I asked him with a teasing smile, his head affectionately.
"Ohh..." he blinked innocently, the new piece of information still processing in his brain.
"Oh yeah..!" his eyes widened as he finally understood.
It was so adorable that a sudden urge to pinch his cheeks rose in my chest, but knowing how much he disliked it, I resisted. It was his special day, after all. I settled with poking his cheek instead.
I lowered my head, making the tip of our noses touch — a show of affection we have done ever since he was old enough to crawl.
"Come on, Yixing. Let's go home, mom's waiting with the cake!" I tugged gently at his arm, another habit I had acquired from taking care of him.
He merely nodded quietly and held onto my hand as we walked back, but a broad grin was glued on his face all the while.
