I walk into the classroom and look around. It’s the first day of the year, and it doesn’t look like any of my friends are in the same class. The desks are set up in pairs of two, so I head for an empty set, too shy to sit next to anyone. Within a few minutes, the rest of the class had come in and were in their seats. I was happy, but slightly d...isappointed when no one sat next to me. The teacher started the class and I took out my pencil case and books. Suddenly, the door to the class room opened and a boy ran in, out of breath.
“S-sorry, I was lost” He said, before realizing everyone was looking at him. He looked around, embarrassed.
“First day?” The teacher asked, smiling at him kindly, and the boy nodded.
“Take a seat” The teacher said before returning to writing on the white board. The boy turned and walked to the only empty seat. I felt awkward since I don’t really know how to talk to people, so I just continued writing notes in my book while he sat down.
“Anyeong, I’m Zelo” He said, holding out his hand. I nod and take his hand.
“I’m ____” I said. He smiled and I started on my work. After about five minutes of writing out complex maths equations, Zelo turned to me.
“How old are you?” He asked, and I paused form doing my work, but didn’t turn to face him.
“…16” I said before quickly returning to my maths.
