Ch. 10
The Exchange Studentday 23
It was about a week later. I had just been allowed out of my wheelchair, and now I was using crutches. Moving around wasn't easy, so me and Taemin hadn't gotten to spend much time together, since most of the things we did together involved moving around.
My parents had left for the evening, my mom saying to me "I'll let you 2 have fun" with a wink. I wondered if that was suggestive.
Taemin and I decided it would be a nice night for a little date. Well, actually Taemin decided it. He planned it out. He would make me dinner, and we would eat it while watching one of his favorite dramas, Secret Garden. I laughed at him, because it seemed odd that a guy like him watched dramas.
I didn't complain, however.
I sat on the kitchen counter, watching him bake.
"What are you making?" I asked curiously.
"Something special for you. I like to call it, spaghetti and meatballs."
I smiled. He was so sweet.
I sat there as he worked, and every few minutes he would feed me a spoon of the sauce asking if it tasted good. It tasted amazing. He was a good cook. I asked him where he learned it. He said that his mother taught him.
"So, how's it taste now?" he asked again, looked at me with big, wondrous eyes.
"It tastes great, why don't you try?"
He nodded, and kissed me hard all of a sudden, shocking me. "You're right." he winked. "It does taste great."
I felt my face heat up and I looked away, embarrased. That isn't what I meant for him to do. When I met his gaze again, he was laughing at me cutely.
"You're so adorable." he said.
I covered my face. "Aish, you are making me blush."
After he finished the meal, he set out a table by the TV and put the food there. My crutches were across the kitchen, so I asked him to bring them to me so I could walk to the couch.
"No no no," he said, taking my crutches and putting them by the couch. Then he grabbed my legs and swooped me up, carrying me to the couch, plopping down with sitting on top of him. "This is much better" he said, kissing my cheek.
I moved off of him, smiling. "Let's eat then" I said.
The meal was good, but he had forgotten drinks. "Taemin-ah, I'll get them."
"Are you sure you can? You're pretty hurt you know."
"They aren't that high, and I can use my crutches pretty well." He nodded and said, "Fine but be careful" looking at me, worried.
I hobbled over to my crutches, and walked over to the kitchen, opening the top cupboard. The cups were for some reason in the highest spot. I couldn't reach them. But Taemin had already done so much tonight, that I didn't want to ask for help. I set my crutches down, standing on one leg.
I reached up, my good leg starting to shake a bit. I went on my tippy toe and reached as far as I could, but I still couldn't reach.
Reaching higher, I almost got the cups. My fingers touched them and I started to move the cups around until I got a grip.
I heard Taemin from the couch, "Need help?"
"NO!" I replied, wanting very much not to be a burden.
I had to get higher. I put my bad knee against the counter and pushed myself on it, sitting on the counter on my good knee now.
Soon, I had the cups. But to get down...
I felt my good knee slip and I had cups in either hand so I couldn't grab anything.
Soon, I was falling. Then promptly I landed in something soft. I looked up. Taemin had caught me. He smiled. "If you needed help, you should've asked." Sitting in his arms with the cups, I suddenly felt very vulnerable. "I'm so weak. " I said.
He shook his head. "Just clumsy."
He carried me back to the couch and took the cups, pouring us something to drink. Then he sat next to me with his arms around me and we watched Secret Garden all night long.
