Chapter 22

Forever

Author’s POV:

Efficiently linking his cuffs, Kris then started to do his black skinny tie. He looked up to review his reflection on the bathroom mirror while his hands expertly did his tie. His golden locks were styled up in a good-looking manner. Kris angled his head to examine his facial features from different directions. He narrowed his eyes, disliking the dark circles that were present under his eyes.

There was a business meeting today. Kris obviously tried to look more presentable than he normally would. Everything about his appearance seemed impeccable, except for the dark eye circles he was donning. Sleepless nights were definitely taking a toll of Kris. He would be running on coffee for most of the day and it didn’t help his tired face at all.

Patting his under eye area, Kris hoped that the location of the meeting had bright lights. Kris’ tired face didn’t bother him as much as it would the past several days. This morning, he felt rather good. Perhaps it was because it was a sunny day. Or maybe it was because Jessica would be flying in this afternoon. Of course, it was because of the latter.

Striding out of the bathroom, Kris made sure he had all his papers that he needed for the day. Hearing the door beep unlock with a following opening of the actual door, Kris knew Jihae was back with his coffee.

Every morning ever since they came to Osaka, Kris would send Jihae out on a coffee run simply because he needed the caffeine. Jihae would happily comply to this task every single morning without fail, as she would rise earlier than Kris and be out of the room when Kris stops pretending to sleep and actually get up out of bed.

“Thanks,” Kris gladly took the coffee from Jihae. “Here are the papers for the meeting later.” He handed her the papers he just organized. “How long will the conference be?”

Jihae placed the papers into a file folder before slipping it into her bag. “It should end around 3:30pm. If things go on time, it could possibly finish ten minutes earlier.” She gave him a smile.

Kris hummed and sipped on his coffee in contemplation. Jessica’s flight lands at 3pm. He still won’t be able to pick her up at the airport even if the conference ends early. Jessica had already told him to not worry about picking her up, but he wanted to be the first to see her once she lands. It couldn’t be helped. Kris couldn’t go and pick her up.

“You look really handsome today.” Jihae suddenly commented with her tinted pink cheeks.

Kris raised his eyebrows before giving her a content smile. “Thank you. You straightened your hair today.” He reached out and ruffled her hair a bit in a playful manner.

Jihae grinned shyly. “Yeah…” she felt fluttery and impressed by the fact that Kris took note of the little things she did to her hair.

“Looks nice.” Kris commented with a generous tone.

Jihae blinked up at him with a timid smile. “Thanks.” She bit down on her lower lip, as her fingers fiddled with the end strands of her hair.

“We should go now.” Kris grabbed his blazer off the bed, slinging it over his shoulder. “Do you have everything?”

Jihae nodded her head as she followed him out the door. With all smiles and giddiness, Jihae walked side by side with Kris, ready to begin another day with him. In the mornings, they would attend to their business related schedules, which would extend throughout nearly the whole day. What made Jihae adore the mornings the most is because she got to ride in the rental car right next to Kris and get to know each other. If they were lucky to have a break during the early afternoon, they went to lunch together. When their schedules were finished, they would go sightseeing around the city and go eat dinner together. More or less, Jihae loved this trip. She felt like she was on vacation with a man who made her heart flutter affectionately. She was fond of the many meals or ‘dates,’ as Jihae would call them, which she would have with Kris.

Jihae felt that Kris was her ideal type that she looks for in a partner. She loved all the compliments she receives from Kris. All the smiles that he gives her makes her heart palpitate in a fast rate, their small interactions would make her blush, especially when Kris does something for her. Jihae had developed feelings for Kris, but she just couldn’t deny the fact that he was already married. She had tried her best to ignore the fact that Kris was already tied down with another woman and pretended as if the wedding band on his finger was invisible. As long as they’re on this trip alone together, Jihae will continue to believe that she’s worth something to Kris.

Reaching the lobby, Jihae was confused as to why they got off at the main floor instead of the parking lot like usual. “Why are we at the lobby?”

“I have to clear some things up at the check-in.” Kris explained. “You could wait here. I’ll be right back.”

Jihae nodded her head at the order before standing still in place. Kris walked up towards the counter where the employee helped him out. Jihae only stared at Kris’ backside with wonder. She didn’t know what he was doing, but all she could hope was that Kris wasn’t going to switch out of their shared room. Jihae liked having Kris’ presence nearby.

“Can I leave my room key here for someone?” Kris passed the worker his room key. “She’ll be checking in later in the afternoon.”

“Sure, may I ask for the name?” the concierge was more than willing to help.

“Jessica Wu.” Kris clearly pronounced his wife’s name. “Could you give it to her when she comes to receive her own key?”

“Sure thing,” The employee gave him a reassuring smile. “And what is your name?”

“Kris Wu.” Kris then gave his thanks before walking off.

Once Kris made it back to Jihae, they started to head for the parking lot. “Was everything okay?” Jihae asked as they walked together.

Kris nodded his head. “Yup.” His answer was short, making Jihae refrain from questioning him any further.

Once they got into the car, Kris buckled himself in and glanced over to see if Jihae had done the same. Then he started the car and drove it out of the lot. Jihae had always noticed that Kris would see if she had buckled in. Jihae figured that it was because Kris cared and always looked out for her, which she appreciated, as she would feel loved.

There was a silence during the ride, but it didn’t last long when Jihae’s curiosity sparked up. “Kris, where did you go last night?” she blinked at him with inquisitive eyes.

Jihae had found that Kris would never sleep at night, but instead he would sneak out of the room and somehow return. She had tried to stay awake to see when he would come back into the room, but always gave up and went back to sleep. Still, she never knew why or where Kris would go.

Kris’ eyebrows rose in surprise, but still kept his eyes on the road. “Did I wake you last night?” he asked casually.

Jihae opened to speak, but closed it and merely nodded. “Yeah…kind of…” she softly replied, knowing that she actually wakes up everything Kris leaves in the middle of the night.

“Sorry,” Kris apologized, making a turn on the road. “I just went out to make a few calls.” He technically didn’t lie.

“Oh,” Jihae figured she got her question answered.

“Really, noona?!” Tao gasped in excitement. “You’re not joking, are you?!”

Jessica shook her head, her facial expression filled with amusement, yet she was serious. “Did you not want it?”

“No! No no no!” Tao frantically waved his hands. “Of course I want it!”

Jessica giggled at her dongsaeng before tossing him the car keys. “Just promise me that you won’t get into an accident or even scratch the car. Kris will be mad if he sees even one little chip and I won’t be able to let you borrow the car ever again.”

“I promise!” Tao held out his pinky finger, to which Jessica hook her pinky with his. “I love you, noona!” he attacked Jessica in a huge bear hug. “Thank you!”

“I love you too, Tao.” Jessica ruffled the panda’s hair. “I trust you to not damage the car. Don’t tell Kris that I lent you the car though.” She placed her index finger in front of to signal that it was to be a secret.

Tao saluted her with determination, “Got it, noona!”

Jessica pinched his cheek with a smile on her face before going back to double check if she has everything she needed in her duffle bag. She was indeed leaving today for Osaka, Japan. Everything was set and all she needed to do was board the plane that was scheduled to leave at 1:30pm.

“Will hyung pick you up at the airport when you land?” Tao wondered.

Jessica shook her head. “Kris is busy. I’ll just have to take a taxi to the hotel by myself.”

“But what about the language?” Tao blinked with his mouth agape. “It’s not safe for noona to travel alone! You’re a lady!”

“I have a translating application on my phone. I think I’ll live.” Jessica laughed. “I can always call Kris. Thanks for worrying about me though, Tao.”

Tao suddenly gasped. “It’s almost noon! We have to get to the airport now! Let’s go noona!!” the panda, being the designated driver to drop off Jessica, was frantic.

Getting through the airport security in Osaka, Jessica excitedly made her way out into the airport. Looking around, she knew that Kris couldn’t make it in time to pick her up, but she wanted to make sure. Not seeing a sign of her husband, Jessica’s anticipation only grew bigger to see Kris later on.

Walking onto the sidewalk, Jessica was confused for a moment. She somehow managed to catch a taxi and showed the driver the address to the hotel. Communication was hard and the silence atmosphere in the car made Jessica awkward. She made a mental note to herself to learn the basics of the language of the country before visiting it. Nevertheless, she enjoyed the scenery of Japan.

Before she knew it, she had arrived at the hotel. Jessica said her thanks to the driver and gave him a reasonable amount of money. Carrying her duffle bag inside the hotel, Jessica happily strolled her way towards the check-in.

When she received her room key, Jessica was about to walk off until the employee handed her a second key. “A man by the name of Kris Wu instructed me to give this to you.” The worker only continued speaking English when Jessica nodded. “This is the key to room 291. It should be on the same level as your own room.”

Jessica happily smiled and thanked the lady before making her way onto an elevator. How lucky was she to have her room on the same floor as Kris’ room? Once she got onto the designated floor, she found Kris’ room along the way. She decided to drop off her belongings in her room first.

Sticking her room key into the slot, she unlocked her door and walked right in. Dropping her bag into the single bed, Jessica immediately ran towards the window in eagerness. The view of the city was magnificent. Jessica wanted a picture of the pretty city when she had another idea. She needed to inform Kris that she has arrived safely, so might as well send him a picture of her with the city right behind her.

Exploring around, Jessica found her hotel room quite cozy. It would be even nicer if Kris were to stay in the room with her. Shoving her own room key into her pocket, she wanted to see Kris’ room. Noticing the time, Jessica calculated that Kris should be done with his schedules by now. She figured she could go and surprise Kris in his own room.

Safely shutting her room door, Jessica scampered her way in front of Kris’ room. She gained entry with the card and shut the door behind her. Noticing an abundance of shoes, Jessica frowned, noting some female shoes. Scuttling into the room further, she saw the two separated beds. Her eyebrows furrowed at the sight. She noticed an unfamiliar suitcase on side of the room before recognizing her husband’s belongings on the other.

It didn’t take longer than a second to realize whose stuff is on the other side of Kris’ side of the room. Jihae. Jessica’s nose scrunched up in disapproval. It definitely explains why Jihae appeared in the video call the first time. Jessica couldn’t bring herself to get mad though. She didn’t want to jump to conclusions like she did last time.

Plus, it was evident that the two were segregated into two sides. Kris’ items were nowhere near Jihae’s belongings. It was a given that they also slept on two different beds. Jessica shouldn’t judge until she knows the whole story. Kris had told her to trust him and that’s what she’s currently doing. She was definitely going to ask Kris as soon as he comes through that door though.

With a grim expression, Jessica inspected the bathroom. There, she saw that Kris had separated his items as well. Jessica’s face brightened a bit. Kris was serious when he said Jihae was nothing to him. Nothing in the room seemed out of ordinary and Jessica was sure that Kris kept his distance from Jihae.

Lying down on Kris’ bed, Jessica sighed in contentment. She could smell Kris’ scent. The scent that she missed dearly. Lifting herself up into a sitting position, she quickly became bored. That’s when she wondered if Kris had gotten her a gift yet. Taking a peek at her husband’s luggage, Jessica wanted a glimpse of her present. In the midst of searching for her gift, Jessica heard the door beep and click open.

The shuffling of feet was heard along with a conversation between Kris and Jihae. Jessica immediately stood up and excitedly skipped her way over to the wall. She heard the door shut and that’s when Jessica poked her head out with a smile on her face.

Jihae got a momentary shock as she gasped and took a step back. Kris looked up from his feet from behind the shocked Jihae, to see his wife peeking out from around the corner with her cute little smile.

While Jihae was at a loss for what was going on, Kris only grinned from ear to ear. Tossing his items on the floor without much care, Kris strode his way towards Jessica and picked her up in a hug. A little squeak escaped Jessica’s lips before Kris attached their lips together. Naturally, Jessica’s legs wrapped themselves around Kris’ waist, as he hugged onto her. Kris gave her multiple butterfly kisses before lowering her back down onto the floor to give her more kisses.

It wasn’t until Jessica had to pull back and start talking was Kris forced to stop kissing her. “Hi to you too, Mr. Wu.” Jessica broke out in a smile, seeing how excited Kris got.

Kris only kissed her again twice before pinning their foreheads together. “Hi, Mrs. Wu. I missed you.” He couldn’t resist and connected their lips together again.

Jihae frowned and clenched her teeth at the sight. Right after the conference had ended, she had wondered why Kris wanted to get back to the hotel in such a rush. Now that Jihae realized that Jessica had come over, she couldn’t help but feel isolated now. The way Kris instantly left her once he saw Jessica made her upset. The fact that the two were kissing made Jihae boil. Flopping the files onto the table along with her bag, Jihae was feeling displeased. Things were going terrific, until Jessica arrived.

Jihae’s loud movements made Jessica remember that there was somebody else in the room. Trying to pull away, Kris only followed her movements and never gave her the chance to part from his lips. Jessica had to hold onto Kris’ chin and forcefully push him away before she could make him stop his excessive kisses. Kris only gave Jessica a puppy eyed look, wondering why she pushed him away. Jessica only glanced over at Jihae before looking back at Kris. At that time, Jihae turned around and met eyes with Jessica.

“Hi, Jihae.” Jessica tried to seem friendlier towards the female that she had always been distrustful of, but never had the chance to get to know.

Jihae only pulled on a smile with all her might, not feeling happy at all. “Hi, Jessica.” She gave a little wave.

Jessica gave her a grin, but Jihae excused herself to the bathroom rather quickly. As soon as the bathroom door shut, Jessica frowned and looked up at Kris.

“Did I do something?” Jessica pouted her lips, not knowing why Jihae was being a bit cold.

“Of course you didn’t.” Kris tightened his arms around her waist. “Maybe she’s just tired. We had a long conference day.”

Jessica’s lips formed an ‘o’ as she nodded her head. “My angry bird has dark eye circles.” A worried look came across her face, as she caressed Kris’ face.

“My baby has them too,” Kris didn’t fail to notice Jessica’s tired eyes as well. “Even if they’re hiding under your makeup.” He pressed his lips on her under eye area.

“Well we can sleep later tonight.” Jessica scrunched up her nose, wanting to dismiss the topic. “Let’s go tour the city for now.” She jumped, wanting to see Osaka.

“Sure. Let me get changed first.” Kris slipped off his blazer and draped it over the chair before flinging himself onto the bed.

Jessica eyed her husband. Kris was lying lifelessly on the bed in a relaxed manner, blinking slowly as he returned Jessica’s look. Pouting her lips, the wife toddled her way towards him and tugged on his hand.

“What are you doing? You’re supposed to be getting changed.” Jessica persistently wanted to go tour around. “I want to see everything before it gets dark.”

Kris only pulled Jessica onto the bed and into his embrace. “Help me change. Your husband is tired from working.” He shut his eyes while still hugging onto Jessica.

Jessica only lied there examining Kris’ face for a moment. Thinking about how tiresome sitting through hours and hours of business people talking about corporate means must be boring, especially since her husband has been sleep deprived. Deciding to let Kris catch up on his sleep, Jessica couldn’t help but notice how handsome Kris looked today with his hair styled up. She traced her finger lightly over his perfect facial features, taking it all on, as she has missed him just as much.

Kissing his lips softly, Jessica slowly got up and sat on top of him. When she started to undo his tie, Jihae had emerged into the room dressed casually. Looking back, Jessica saw Jihae staring blankly at them. Jessica flashed her a smile before reverting back to Kris to slip his tie off his neck.

Jihae slowly shuffled to her side of the room and sat down on the bed, her eyes never leaving the married couple. A surge of rage bubbled inside of Jihae yet again, when she thought that she had calmed down. Not to seem as if she was eavesdropping, Jihae stuck her phone in front of her face, as she was secretly watching the two, or rather, Jessica.

Jihae scowled when Jessica started to the first couple of buttons on Kris’ dress shirt. What in the world is she doing? She thought, not liking the fact that she was undressing Kris. Glancing over at Kris, Jihae saw that Kris was actually sleeping. Jihae’s eyes practically zoomed in on Kris, fawning over the fact that she finally got to see Kris sleeping. She sighed, even in his sleep he looks beyond handsome. Her wonderment was quickly put to a screeching halt when she saw Jessica enter the picture and kiss Kris on the lips. Jihae immediately started to glare at Jessica.

“Get up, you need to get changed.” Jessica pecked him on the lips to signal him to wake up, unaware of the mean looks that were being thrown her way.

Kris only hummed pulled Jessica down next to him. He snuggled into her, loving the fact that he could finally fall asleep. With his wife’s addicting peachy scent, Kris just wanted to cuddle in bed for the rest of the day.

“Get up~ We can sleep later.” Jessica chimed, caressing his face. “I have gifts to buy and things to see, Kris.”

With that said, Kris peeked open one eye. “Gifts?”

Jessica nodded her head. “Since we’re here, we should get our parents something. Tao and Fany want a souvenir too. Oh, we can get the boys and girls something too.” She couldn’t leave out their closest friends either.

Kris sighed before beginning to shut his eyes again. Jessica placed a kiss on his nose before quickly jumping off the bed, not giving Kris a chance to catch her. Being forced to sit up, Kris frowned and found that his wife had already gotten his clothes out of his suitcase.

“Two more minutes.” Kris tried to bargain for more time to rest, grabbing her hips to pull her closer.

His plea went unnoticed when Jessica suddenly spoke up, ignoring him. “Jihae, you’ll be coming too, right?” Jessica tried her best to try and get along with her husband’s secretary.

Jihae scrambled to sit upright after being spoken to. “Erm…” she took a quick glance over at an inquiring Kris. “Sure.” She gave a small smile, not wanting to show Kris that she was in a bad mood now that Jessica was here.

“Great.” Jessica gave her a friendly grin. “We’ll get going after Kris gets changed here.” She pouted her lips at Kris, poking her husband’s forehead back.

Kris only stole a kiss before standing up and suddenly hauling Jessica over his shoulders. Jessica only squealed and laughed when Kris towed the both of them into the bathroom.

Jihae was left in the room with a frustrated grimace on her face. She absolutely hated how Jessica had a certain affect on Kris. Kris never acted so playful around her and he definitely didn’t show her any kind of expressions or emotions close to his hidden cute personality. Jihae had noticed that Jessica brought out a different light on Kris and it showed Jihae how much more perfect Kris was in her eyes. If only Kris would open up to her more, that way she wouldn’t have to feel as envious of Jessica as she’s feeling now.

After long hours of shopping, touring and going to dinner, the three of them finally made it back to the hotel. On their ride up on the elevator, Kris and Jessica were busily chatting on their own right next as Jihae stood to the side in frustration. Letting out an angry huff, Jihae wanted to be a part of the conversation and take some attention away from Jessica. The only problem that prevented her from doing so was the fact that the couple was discussing in fluent English.

Jihae had a snarling expression on her dull face. She wanted to know what they were talking about, but the only thing that she was actually thinking of was of Jessica’s flawlessness. For the entire time they’ve been together during the few hours, Jihae didn’t find a single flaw in Jessica. The woman was kind, loving and caring. Her perfection only bothered Jihae even more. Thinking that nothing can get even more worse, Jihae has now found out that Jessica connects with Kris on a different level; language. Jihae felt like she was being overshadowed by Jessica and Jihae’s hatred for Jessica only brewed bigger.

“I’ll just bring everything over to your room.” Kris reasoned in English.

Jessica nodded her head. “Does my angry bird need help?” she looked up at him with loving eyes, knowing that he would have the hardest time packing his belongings again.

Kris only grinned and kissed the tip of Jessica’s nose. “Of course I want you to, considering how it ended the last time you packed my suitcase.” An evil grin crept on his face.

“ert.” Jessica shot him a glare.

“Correction. ert that you love.” Kris smirked cockily, leaning forward to capture his wife’s lips.

Jihae suddenly cleared loudly, gaining the couples’ attention. Jihae’s sudden interruption prevailed, as the elevator came to a stop. Once Jihae walked out, Kris and Jessica followed behind. Jessica glanced up at Kris with cautious eyes, taking note that they should be more conservative of their affections, as they have a third wheel along.

Making their way into the suite, Jihae wondered why Jessica was coming into the room as well. It wasn’t until then did she realize the possibility of having Jessica staying in the same room as her and Kris. Jihae rolled her eyes, not liking the fact that Jessica is interfering with her own time with Kris.

“I’m going to use the restroom first.” Jessica excused herself and sped into the bathroom.

After placing their things down, Kris and Jihae plopped down onto their separate beds. The two were drained of energy, unlike Jessica, due to the fact that they had to go to work earlier in the day.

“Are you tired?” Kris rested his head to the side to face Jihae, who was already looking at him from her bed.

“Yeah…” Jihae sighed, happy to have an actual one-to-one conversation with Kris. “We did a lot of walking.”

Kris broke out in a smile. “Jess is pretty excited to be here. Sorry if we made you walk too much. My wife likes to explore and shop.”

Jihae struggled to keep her happy facial expression after Kris had brought up Jessica. “The food was great though. You picked a good restaurant to go to.” She wanted to avoid any mention of Jessica at all.

“It was, wasn’t it?” Kris nodded his head. “But Jess picked it out. She’s really good at cooking. Even the restaurant she picks is good too.”

Seeming that Kris wasn’t going to stop talking about Jessica, Jihae decided to use it to her advantage to get to know more about her so-called opponent. “Why do you like her?” she suddenly interrogated.

Her bluntness took Kris aback for a second before he smiled. “Why do I like Jess?” he glanced at Jihae and received a hard nod. “Well I don’t like her.”

Jihae tensed up. A feeling of joy was creeping up in her heart stealthily.

“I love her.” Kris reiterated, crushing Jihae’s hopes in an instant. “Jess is everything I could ask for. She’s cute, y, smart, and she knows how to handle herself. She’s hardworking, caring, has a genuine heart. To me, she doesn’t have any flaws. She’s my perfect other half, my everything.”

Jihae could see the undying grin on Kris’ face and couldn’t help but feel hurt. She really has no chance against Jessica. In Jihae’s eyes, Kris, the perfect man, was already taken and claimed. Jihae felt that her life had tumbled down a mountain, but her pride and stubbornness skyrocketed. Kris must like her in some way. He has to. Jihae wasn’t going to let the man of dreams slip away from her hands when he was right in front of her.

“Wu Yifan!” Jessica’s voice broke Jihae out of her reverie.

Looking towards Jessica with a dumbfounded expression, Jihae was at a loss for whom the other female was referring to. Wu Yifan? Who?

“Why didn’t you start packing yet?” Jessica asked, taking a seat on the floor in front of Kris’ suitcase.

Kris got up from the bed and sat down next to her, kissing her on the cheek. “I was waiting for my wife.”

Jessica only stared at him, knowing that he didn’t want to pack at all, but seeing her husband’s tired face, she decided to let him off the hook. She merely blinked at Kris and Kris immediately brightened up and shifted so that he rested his head on her lap. The married couple could read each other, as if they could speak through only their eyes. Jessica knew he was tired and wanted rest and that’s what he gave him. She’ll just have to help him pack like she had originally planned.

“Why are you guys packing?” Jihae voiced out as Jessica started to neatly piled Kris’ clothes.

“Oh,” Jessica multi-tasked as she looked back at Jihae and folded t-shirts at the same time. “Kris is moving into my suite with me.” She gave Jihae a smile.

“…Oh.” Jihae responded in a low tone.

Jessica only gave her a happy grin. “You’ll be able to have your own privacy, now that Kris is moving out. It’ll be more comfortable for you.” She gave Jihae a considerate look. “Plus, I didn’t want to bother you even more if I slept in here with Kris. There wouldn’t be much room for three people in this suite anyways.”

Jihae only stared at Jessica with hardened eyes. Kris is moving out? Jealousy arose. Jihae didn’t want Jessica to have Kris all to herself. Sure, Jihae was aware that they were married, but she refused to acknowledge it. Jihae admires Kris too. It’s not fair that Jessica always prevails to get Kris.

Jihae’s selfishness corrupted her mind. She wanted Kris and by all means, she will get Kris, no matter what.
