“Taeyeon... Taeyeon… Taeyeon… Taeyeon” a series of non-stop whispers accompanied by a blanket tug. “Taeyeon…” a distinct whine accompanied by a hard shaking.

Taeyeon opens her eyes to see Jamie’s face mere inches from her own. He grins, his carbon copy brown eyes sparkling at her. “James… what a surprise” Taeyeon shifts in her bed, and unbeknownst to her something has popped out from beneath the sheets.

“I can see your eses” Jamie says nonchalantly, leaning on the bed with his elbows.

“Jesus!” Taeyeon covers herself and looks at him, horrified.

“Mama’s eses are bigger than yours” he says, climbing into bed with her, “Papa calls them but Mama says eses”

“Oh my god… Sunny!” shouts as loud as she can, “your son is talking to me about !”

A minute later Sunny walks in calmly, her hands attached to Bella’s hair as she re-braids it. “We like to call them s, Taeyeon, it’s much more polite.” She shrugs at Taeyeon’s appalled expression, “He likes s, what can I say?” Bella is nearly peeing herself with laughter.

“You just talk to your son about ?”

“Well, no. He asks questions; he’s seen me and he’s curious. I don’t want him to feel ashamed about uality”

Taeyeon looks at the wall opposite her and talks to it, “How am I having this conversation right now?”

“C’mon Jamie, let’s give Taeyeon a minute to herself, yeah?” waves her son over. He and Bella run across the landing. Sunny steps in and closes the door, “Sorry about that. They woke me up at half six wanting to go into the park. I kept them out of here as long as I could”

Taeyeon looks at her bedside clock, rubs her eyes.

Sunny approaches the bed, “I’m going to take them down for breakfast; apparently Goofy is supposed to make an appearance” rolls her eyes.

Taeyeon is very aware of Sunny’s close proximity to her body, “Just give me a minute to get ready”

“You want to join us?”

“You sound surprised…”

“Because I am” she says, her eyes flicking down to where Taeyeon’s cleavage is showing.

“Stop trying to look at my s, Sunny”

Sunny picks up a pillow and throws it at her, “We’ll wait downstairs”

Taeyeon admires her backside as she walks out, thanking no one in particular for the invention of tight jeans.

Taeyeon snaps a picture with Sunny’s camera and hands it back to her. They’ve been inside Disneyland for three hours and haven’t stopped for a second; Bella and Sophia living out the plans they made the night previous. Jamie’s become tired and whiney so Taeyeon’s decided to take him on the pirates ride to appease him, while Sunny takes the girls to the haunted mansion. They decide to meet up at The Plaza Inn restaurant for lunch.

Sunny kisses her son, “Be good for Taeyeon, love”

“Ok Mama”

“We’ll be fine, Sunny. You should be more worried about those two” Taeyeon whispers and points as if Sophia and Bella can’t see her.

“Mum…!”

“I’m only teasing, darling” pinches Bella’s cheek, “you’re wonderful” Taeyeon takes Jamie’s hand, “off we go, James”

“Bye Mama. Bye!” Sunny watches them walk off and get lost in the crowd.

“Alright, ladies, let’s go see some ghosts…”

Jamie’s head rests on Taeyeon’s shoulder. She’s been holding him the entire time they’ve been waiting in line. “Is it our turn yet, Taeyeon?”

Taeyeon leans her cheek on his head, “Almost, James. Almost”

“I didn’t know we had to wait in so many lines,” Bella sighs.

“They are rather long, aren’t they” Sunny her hair. Sophia leans her head against Sunny’s side. “Tired?” Sophia looks up at her and nods. “Well, we can go back and have a nap after lunch, I’m pretty tired myself. Someone woke me at five thirty this morning” Both girls look up at her innocently.

“I wish Mummy was here” Bella says, as if she’s been thinking about it for some time. Sophia’s head shoots up at this, “she would have liked it”

“I’m sure she would have” Sunny agrees.

“Do you think she’s in heaven?” looks up at Sunny.

“I think so. I bet she’s watching you right now, smiling” Sophia looks to the sky, searching.

“Her birthday is the same as ours, did you know that?”

“I did not”

“Yes, she’s twenty-six years older than us” furrows her brow, “… was. Was twenty-six years older”

Sunny’s heart breaks for the girls, but she smiles through it, “You must have had some fun birthdays all together”

Bella shrugs, “Yeah. Mum would always surprise us with big parties” scrunches her face, “she used to be a fun Mum, but she’s not really anymore”

“I think she’s pretty fun”

“Why?” looks at Sunny in bewilderment.

Sunny laughs, “Well… she’s funny. And she’s smart. I like smart people”

“Yo-ho, yo-ho…” Jamie’s been repeating it over and over again, it being the only part that he remembers. They weave through the thick crowd, Taeyeon holding his hand firmly. She sees a shop she wants to go into.

“Detour, James”

As they enter the store, Jamie loosens his grip. Taeyeon lets him go but tells him to stay close. She peruses the hats, mulling over which ones her daughters would like. “James, come here a minute” she holds out two princess hats, “Do you think Sophia and Bella would like these?”

Jamie’s mouth creases, “I think… I think they would like those pirate hats over there” he points with a thumb.

Taeyeon rolls her eyes at him, “James, would you like a pirate hat?”

“Yes yes… please!”

“Alright, go and pick the one you like and come back” shakes her head at the small boy. Boys.

Taeyeon finally decides on pink for Sophia and purple for Bella, and can’t resist picking up a couple of hats for Sunny and herself. They wait in another line and get each hat personalized.

“There you are, my boy” Jamie smiles so big Taeyeon is forced to lean down and kiss his chubby cheek. He holds the hat and points to the letters one by one.

“J-a-m-…” what comes next?”

Taeyeon grabs his hand and begins to walk out of the store, “i-e”

He repeats it and puts the hat on his head. “You wear yours, Taeyeon”

Taeyeon reaches in the bag and pulls out her personalized Mickey ears hat, puts it on, and winks at him.

“There they are…!” Bella runs to her mother, stopping short when she sees the hats on her and Jamie’s heads. “You got hats?” Jealous.

“We did” Taeyeon nods.

“We got you some too!” Jamie erupts. Taeyeon brings her hands around from behind her back, producing the princess cone hats for each girl.

“Oh, Mum… yay!” She and Sophia both grab for the one Taeyeon picked out for them before seeing their names. “Thank you, Mum”

“You’re welcome” Taeyeon opens her arms and both girls crash into her. She feels a well of emotion filling her up inside. Clears , “Go on, put them on, then” Taeyeon watches with pride.

“Nice hat” Sunny walks up behind the girls, suppressing a smile.

“Don’t laugh, here’s yours” hands her a Minnie ears hat with "Sunny" monogrammed on it.

“You really shouldn’t have”

“I know”

Taeyeon switches Jamie from her left arm to her right. They’re making their way to a spot where they’ll have a good view of the fireworks display Bella has insisted they stay and watch.

“Taeyeon if he’s getting too heavy I can take him” Sunny says as Taeyeon switches arms again.

“I’m fine, Sunny” Taeyeon stops and looks around as the crowd seems to have stopped and gathered, “Looks like this is the place, girls” she finds a short wall to sit on and rests Jamie in her lap.

Bella and Sophia sit on either side of her, eyes looking to the sky, “Will it start soon, Mum?”

“I hope so” Taeyeon answers. Sunny leans over her son, asleep in Taeyeon’s arms; touches his forehead with her palm.

“He feels ok” she says, a bit concerned. Taeyeon sees a curtain of blonde hair in front of her face as Sunny examines Jamie. Watches as Sunny tucks the curtain behind her ear. Resists the urge to touch the pale skin of Sunny’s cheek that she’s faced with.

“He’s fine, Sunny. Just tired”

Sunny turns her head, very aware of their proximity “Yeah… I guess so. We all had such a good nap though, I thought he would last longer than this”

A loud boom causes Sunny to rise suddenly. …actions. She sits down on the wall next to Sophia, glances at Jamie one more time before getting lost in the exploding bright lights on show above her.

Taeyeon isn’t interested in the fireworks above, she has her eyes fixed on Sunny. Shades of pink, purple, gold and blue light up Sunny’s face. Taeyeon watches as her eyes and lips react to the show. You are so beautiful Sunny Lee.

As if she senses the stare, Sunny looks at Taeyeon who doesn’t flinch. Instead she bites her lip, like she’s been caught doing something naughty but doesn’t really care. Sunny reacts by arching an eyebrow, fireworks reflecting in her eyes. Jamie stirs in her arms and Taeyeon breaks the staring contest. She watches as his eyelids slowly flutter open and look to the sky, the corners of his mouth twitch. Just as slowly they close and he becomes a motionless mass in her arms once again.

“Did you have a wonderful day?” Sunny asks, brushing some hair out of Sophia’s face. The little girl nods, yawns. Sunny kisses her forehead, “Good” she leans over and does the same to Bella, “Night, girls”

Bella yawns her reply “Night Sunny”

Taeyeon is on her way up the stairs as Sunny comes out of the room, “Are you tired?” she asks Sunny, stopping at the entrance of the door.

Sunny shrugs, “Not particularly, no. Why?”

“Good, wait right here” winks. Sunny listens as Taeyeon says goodnight to her daughters. She’s glad Taeyeon is doing it of her own volition tonight.

Sunny leans against the pool table, waiting. Taeyeon comes out and closes the bedroom door, “Fancy a drink?”

Sunny looks at her, surprised, “You mean order room service…?”

Taeyeon shakes her head slowly, “No, I mean let’s go out and get a drink”

Hushed, “We can’t just leave the kids, Taeyeon”

“Obviously, I wouldn’t do that Sunny” walks into her room. Sunny follows. “I’ve arranged for hotel childcare. I thought it would be nice to go out and be adults together” Taeyeon says, sitting down on her bed.

Sunny stands in front of her, thinking. Finally asks, “You trust the hotel people?”

“Yes, I do”

“Ok, then” points a finger at Taeyeon, “I’m trusting you”

“You won’t be sorry”

Taeyeon stands as Sunny arrives back at their table from the restroom. “Such a gentleman”

Taeyeon’s chosen a bar - somewhere where only adults are allowed - in Downtown Disney. Sunny checks her phone immediately upon sitting, peeks over at Taeyeon’s phone, too.

“No one’s called, relax. They’re all still asleep”

Sunny sticks out her tongue at Taeyeon before taking a sip of her drink, “This is so good” she says, drinking the last of her third appletini, “it’s wrong that it tastes like candy, I don’t want to stop” she laughs.

“You don’t have to stop” Taeyeon signals the waitress to come over, “she’ll have another”

“I don’t think I should” Sunny whispers, as if the waitress can’t hear her, “my head is already quite fuzzy” rubs her temple.

Fuzzy? Oh God, you’re ridiculous and adorable. “One more” Taeyeon tells the waitress, “and I’ll have another as well” gulps down the last of her second rum and Coke.

“This is nice” Sunny sighs, leaning back in her seat, “the last time I was out without Jamie was…” pensive “when you and I had coffee”

“You need to get out more”

Sunny shakes her head, “No, I don’t feel like I do. I love being with Jamie; raising him and spending time with him… it’s what I want to do. But once in a while something like this, just a few drinks with a beautiful woman, and good conversation, would be nice”

“Think I’m beautiful, do you?” Smirks, thinking she’s caught Sunny off guard.

“I think you’re very beautiful, Taeyeon” matter of factly. Taeyeon is stunned by Sunny’s honesty. “Don’t look so surprised” Sunny laughs, “you are”

“I just… didn’t expect you to say that”

Sunny sips her drink and leans on the table, “Mm, well, I spent a big part of my life being secretive and dishonest with friends, family… myself. But I sorted myself out and I’m not ashamed to say what I think or feel anymore. It’s quite liberating”

The waitress brings their drinks and Sunny takes a deep breath, smiling like someone who is about to start on their fourth drink. Taeyeon shakes her head and sighs, “I’ve never met anyone quite like you”

“I am one of a kind” smiles and winks. She continued “I grew up being compared to my sister and we were nothing alike. I hated it” Sunny’s face grows serious, “Don’t ever do that to Bella and Sophia”

“How can I not?”

“You just don’t” getting worked up, “They’re two completely different people…”

“Ok, ok” reaches across the table and pats Sunny’s hand.

“And don’t patronize me” pulls her hand away.

“So you’re an angry drunk. Good to know” Taeyeon takes a long sip of her drink, watching Sunny over the rim of her glass.

“I am not!” throws her apple twist at Taeyeon.

“Oi, manners” Taeyeon teases, “does your sister throw scraps of food in public places, too?”

Sunny looks at her with an exasperated but playful expression, “You’re going to be so sorry for that” she threatens, “I may be small but I’m scrappy. Just wait…”
