Chapter Six: A vampire's life
The Beginning Of Eternity
“Let’s start. We’ll played Blackjack first. ” Said Seulong.
Seulong picked up the deck of cards and began shoving the deck of cards in his hands then sliding one by one to Wooyoung, Nichkhun and Kahi, then me and Taecyeon before them. He continued another round of passing then put the deck of cards in front of him.
“Pick up the cards, don’t show it yet.” He whispered to my right ear.
I did as he said and hold the cards together with both of my hands. The first card is a K (king); I slowly slide the second card from the King.
“Please be a good card. Please be a high card.” I pleaded in my head.
I kept slowly sliding the second card behind the first and it came out a nine. I showed it to him.
“Put it down.” He whispered to me.
I waited for them to put their cards down. I looked at Kahi who is smiling with Nichkhun; I couldn’t believe my eyes, he smiles. I thought he doesn’t know how to smiles at all. My eyes moved to Wooyoung who now has a frown on his face. Then I looked at Fei and Seulong, who are whispering to each other.
“Ok.” Said Seulong. He looked at Taecyeon and me first. “Hit or stay?”
I looked at Taecyeon. “Stay.” He said.
Seulong fixed his eyes on Nichkhun and Kahi.
“We stay.” Kahi answered.
“Hit me.” Said Wooyoung loudly and confidently.
Seulong smiles as he slide him another card. Wooyoung catch it and flip the card over.
“Appa!” Wooyoung whine. “This is not fair.” He pouted as he fell backward.
Kahi laughs along with Fei. I laugh quietly as I watch Wooyoung whine like a baby.
Wooyoung sat up. “Appa, why do you always gave me a card that I don’t need?” Wooyoung whine.
“Yah! I don’t controlled the cards.” Said Seulong in laughter.
My smiles vanished when I heard the word “Appa” from Wooyoung.
“Appa?” I whispered to him.
He just smiled as he looked at me.
“Okay, everybody turn his or her cards over.” Said Fei.
I did mine. Nichkhun did his, and so did Wooyoung and Fei. I have a nineteen, Wooyoung had twenty-five, Fei and Seulong had a twenty and so does Nichkhun and Kahi.
“You all are such a cheater!” Wooyoung whine as he bangs his leg on the floor.
“Yah! Stop crying.” Seulong laughs at him.
The games continued for another hour from blackjack to poker. We continued to play non-stop and I kept laughing at Wooyoung whining and crying to almost every game he lost.
The clock short hand hit nine, we stopped and Taecyeon me out of the house to his car after saying goodbye to everybody. The car began to move.
“Are you hungry?” He asked me.
“Just a little.” I said.
I didn’t say anything else and took the road to the city. I pressed the window button and the window scrolled down a little. The view was great. The lights of the city were colorful and people walked back and forth on the sidewalks of the street. The car stopped and I looked at Taecyeon.
“I’ll be right back. Lock the door.” He said.
I nodded and he exited the car. I press the locked button on the door on my side. I waited for him in the warm Range Rover Evoque Coupe. I looked at the digital clock on top of the small touch screen. I decided to turn on the music while waiting; I jump a little when I heard a light knocks on the window.
“It’s me.” He said.
I unlocked the door and he entered the car with a white filled bag.
“I bought spicy rice cake and fish stick for you.” He said as he handed me the bag.
“Thank you.” I said as I took the bag. “Do you want some?”
He shook his head no uncomfortably.
“Oh I’m sorry, you don’t eat.” I said embarrassedly.
He just smiles and drove again. I sat in his car and eat for the next fifteen minutes no knowing where is he taking me. I only see his turning the wheel from left to right then back to left. I’m guessing his making a big circle and waiting for me to finish before he stopped the destination he wanted us to be. The car finally stop and parked. He turned off his car and looked at me.
“Lets go.” He said before he exited the car.
The door on my side open and I exit the car. I eye grew wide at the colorful light on the bridge. He closed the door behind me and we walked toward the bridge. Suddenly he stopped and looked around. I looked at him curiously.
“Do you want to see what it’s like to sit behind the dancing water fall?” He asked me.
I looked at him confusedly. “How are we going to get up there?” I asked even though I knew it was a dumb question.
With no one at present at the moment, he grabbed my arm and stepped in front of me. He pulled me forward and I was on his back.
“Its better if we sit behind the dancing water.” He said before he made a leap into air.
“Ahh!” I screamed my lung out.
I closed my eyes tightly and hold onto him tightly as the strong windblast in my face. He landed on the thick metal bar under the bridge.
“We’re here.” He said. “You can let go now.”
I frightenly open my eyes and see the dancing water so close. He let go of my leg and I carefully sit on the cold bar next to him. My body started to shake as the coldness strike through my jean up to my head. I could hear my own teeth clattering. Suddenly a pair of strong arm snake under my legs and around my back. His arms lift me into air again to his laps. I looked at him in shock as I sat on his lap and see the necklace around his neck.
“It betters if you sit on my lap.” He said.
Thanks to the clothes on us, he was not as cold as the metal bar. I shyly blush as looked down at Banpo River for a second.
“I want to know more about you.” I bravely said.
He smiles as he looked at the dancing waterfalls. “Like what?”
“Are you afraid of the sun? And how did you know I was reading about vampires online? I said.
“Whatever you read online is not true. I watched you sleep a couple night. We’re not afraid of the sun and silvers. We only glow in the sun and light of the moon like crystal and we are not monsters. We are vegetarian and there is blood running in our body that is why our skin doesn’t look super pale.” He said.
“Vegetarian? How can a vampire be a vegetarian?” I asked curiously.
He laughed a little before he speaks. “We drink animal or donated blood to survive and stay away from human blood. We take the blood we drank an turn it into our own blood.” I look at the blue pale veins on his neck. “After turned into one by Seulong when he discovered me dying of a disease, I had trouble with his lifestyle. I couldn’t see my family anymore. I couldn’t be a human anymore because of the law above us. It was really difficult for me to survive. Seulong had convince to let go of my family, let go of everything and followed him and Fei. I listened. We traveled nonstop. From America to Europe then to Thailand where we met Nichkhun, who was dying of the post Burmese and Siamese. I rejected at first because I think it would be better if he died and be born to another better life but Seulong did not listened and turn into a vampire because he see great charisma and loyalty in Nichkhun. I got angry but the anger didn’t last long when I get to know him. He may not looked nice but he is really caring and protective toward others especially Kahi.” He said. “We met Kahi here in Seoul. She was the only one in the family who was not turn by Seulong.” He warmly smiles as he took a second to looked at her then back at the dancing waterfall. “It was the night she was turned by another vampire and left in a dark valley. Nichkhun and I heard her screamed. We ran to her and see her fighting the venom in her. We didn’t know who turn her, but Nichkhun approached her and pulled her into his embrace; he held her tightly. I watched him held her in his arms from the back and knew they would be forever partner.”
“H—have you found a partner?” I forced those words out of my mouth.
He shakes his head no, “Wooyoung and I are the only ones that does not have a partner yet.” He said.
I was relief by his answered and my jealousy dissolve.
“How did you meet Wooyoung?” I asked.
“Seulong brought him home after his hunt for new medicines. He was brutally bruise from inside out. Seulong said Wooyoung injured by the enemies why trying to protect a family. Seeing him stabbed multiple times by the enemy, Seulong had no choice but to turn him into one of us. I couldn’t do anything except welcome him to the family after he recovered from the turning process.” He said.
“How long have you been this age?” I asked. “What is the real age of the family?”
“I have 18 for four centuries now.” He said calmly. “Seulong is the longest. He has been froze at the age of 32 for nearly 770 years. Fei is 22 years old for about 500 years old. Nichkhun is 19 but was turn four months later after I was turned. Kahi is 20 for 300 years old and Wooyoung is 18 for 200 years old.”
“How many time have you been here?” My voice shakes as I looked at him.
“A lot. So many that I no longer kept count of places we been too. So many that I end using my powers to come back to my hometown and watched my family died one by one.” He voice became sorrow and guilty. “Helplessly watched them…”
I lifted my hand to his jaw and turn his head to me. A tears on his right eye escape; I gently wipe it away with my thumb.
“I want to be with you.” I said.
He looked at me in surprised as if I was in some sort of spell.
“We can’t. I will only put you in danger if we are together.” He said. He objected fully. “I might not be able to controlled my blood thirst and end up hurting you.”
“I don’t care.” I said. “I don’t care what’s will happen. Take my blood if you need. I just want to be with you.”
“I do.” He said. “I can’t let anything happen to you.”
“Tell me honestly, do you have any feeling for me?” I asked him.
He looked away and hesitated to answer her.
“If you don’t then I’ll jump.” I said in a daring way. “You don’t have to feel guilty. You can just ignored me. I won’t hate you.”
He looked at me shocked. “Why are you doing this?”
“Because I want to be with you.” I answered straightly.
“I’m not perfect for you.” He insisted. “You can find a better happiness.”
“You are.” I insisted. “I can’t find happiness if I can’t find the person I want to be with the most and spend my life with him.”
“Yoona, you don’t understand. I’m a vampire. Like Minho said I’m a mons….”
I shut his mouth with my lips. I closed my eyes and waited for him to respond back. As expected, I smiled when I feel his lips moving against mine. Our eagerness and seductive increase the passion and tenderness of our kiss as I secured my arms around his neck and fingers through his hair. Our kiss deepen that my body no longer felt cold, but hot. I don’t know what happen… what this feeling in me but I don’t want him to stop kissing me… holding me in his arm. His tongue entered my mouth as he my lips aggressively. I taste his tongue. I grabbed on his jacket, pulling him closer even though I knew there is no space left between us. Our lips parted as I breathe heavily with my eyes at his chest. My left hand snake it way to his chest. He had no heart beat. I looked up at him… into his sorrow eyes.
“I don’t want you to be lonely anymore.” I whispered. “I want you to have a heart… for me.”
“I have since the first day I saw a clumsy girl at a parking lot.” He smiles.
I pouted as I slapped his tone chest. He eyes laid on me; I felt my bang move behind my left ear without him touching my hair. I looked at him in shock.
“Some vampires have special powers. I am able to manipulate anything with my mind and hands. I can hear thoughts but I wish not too, but I’m able to block my rivals from entering my mind. The thing is that I haven’t master the mind blocking thing.” He said in a calm voice. He turned his head and fixed his eyes on me. “You really are a strange but special girl since the first day we met.”
I shyly smiled then remembered Nichkhun looks at my mom and me. “I guessing Nichkhun has the power to change people emotion.” I said.
“How did you know?” He looked at me in shocked as if I was some freak.
“He gave that serious looked to my mom and me once, and I felt happy just a second.” I explained.
He chuckles, “I never like that power of his. He is able to feel other emotion and change it. It doesn’t matter how far you are, he can still sense your emotion if he want to. Not only does he has the power to change people emotion, he also has the power to controls all elements.” He said. “He only do it for Kahi. He wanted her to be happy.”
“So everybody in the family has some sort of special powers?” I asked him.
He nods. I smiled as I looked away, but my smiles faded when I remembered his absent today and yesterday.
“Why did you leave during lunch on yesterday?” I asked.
“Seulong had discovered something bad from the police station. There were two humans found dead by the lake on yesterday. It was said to be from some kind of animal. Seulong went to check and knew the mark on the necks.” He said to me. “We were asked to come back home and have a meeting before we head out to find the nomads.”
“Nomads?” I confusedly looked at him.
“Nomads are vampires with either no special power or do possess something and is new to the vampires world.”
“You’re world are so str….”
He phone rang and stopped me from finishing my sentences. He answered his phone. I watched him.
“Hello?” He answered his phone call.
“Come back now. We have found clues.” Said Seulong over the phone.
“I’ll be there as soon as possible.” He said before he hung up.
He looked back at me. “Seulong had found something. I need to take you home.”
I nodded my head. He carried me up in a bridal way and look at the ground and around the area. I closed my eyes tightly as my blows in the airs.
“You’re afraid already?” He said.
“No, it—it just that I don’t… I don’t like height.” I lied.
“I’m not going to let you go. I promise you that.” He said in a peaceful voice.
I opened my eyes and smiled when I felt safe in his arms. He was running super fast that everything we passed were so blurry. He stopped and put me down on my feet again.
“We’re here.” He said.
“Wow, you’re really fast.” I nervously said.
“I don’t get why you need a car when you have this super speed in you.” I said.
He smiles as he looked at me. “We have to act human.” I nodded my head to his answered. “Go in.” He said to me.
“Will I see you tomorrow or do I have to wait till the sun are hiding?” I said.
“You will.” He assured me.
He kisses my lips passionately for a moment before he back away and smiles. “Go get some rest. I’ll come pick you up tomorrow.”
I smiled as I looked into his peaceful and calm eyes. I turn my body around and walked to the door. I stopped when I realize the keys are in my purse, which is still in his car. I turned around and face him embarrassedly.
“What’s wrong?” He asked.
“My keys are in my purse and the purse is in your car.” I said.
He chuckles as he walked up to me. “Let me help you with that.” He said.
I watched him. His eyes were focused on the front door. A loud click and the door opened.
“Only this time.” I said. He nodded. I smiled shyly. “Okay bye.” I whispered.
“Bye.” He whispered.
I gave him a peck on his cheek before I entered the house and closed the door behind me. I locked the lock and rest my back against the door. My cheek were burning as I felt my heart beating nervously yet happy. I secretly smiles as I touched my lips and remembered the kiss we had under the bridge and behind the waterfall dance. The light went on and my mom stood at the stair.
“You’re home late. How was his family?” she nosily asked me.
I nervously nodded my head as I walked toward her, “It went well.” I said.
“Well?” She questioned me.
I walked passed her and hide my happiness from her.
“His family is really friendly and nice. I really enjoyed the trip.” I said with a nod before I walked up the stair. “I’m tired. I want to go to bed. I’ll talk to you tomorrow. Good night mom.”
My mom turned around and watched me. I entered my room quickly and closed the door behind me. The hotness I felt earlier beneath the bridge was gone, but my hungriness fro his lips still roam in my body as I walked to my bed. I smiled as I looked up the ceiling and visualized him. The smiles and voices were still in my head as I think of him. Never had I knew that I could be so obsess and mind-blown just thinking and wanting him at this age. I closed my eyes and shake my head; I waked myself from those crazy thought of him. Listening to him talked about his human and vampire life, I forgot what day it was today. I only realized that four days have passed by so fast. I took deep breath, got up, and walked to my closet and grabbed my pajamas before heading to the bathroom.
