I smiled at the same ajumma again as she came to take our orders. Just when the two old friends of mine arrived, she was about to close shop and come back to the cafe. She offered us a ride and as much as I protested, she made us jump into her small car. Of course Daisy and Krissy were completely confused but followed me anyway. I figured they just needed me to be a translator. 

 

"So, what would you girls like?" The ajummah smiled warmly at us. I grinned and ordered the same hot chocolate that Chanyeol had gotten for me. 

 

"I'll have the same thing I had last time." I smiled sweetly at her and then turned to my old friends. "Have you chosen anything? Everything here is delicious!" I tried my best to not shake as I waited for their replies. They were staring at me wide eyed as if I was some alien creature and not the person they thought I was. In some way that is kind of true. I changed a lot after I left America. My mom hadn't gotten an actual promotion at her old job. It was more of a chance for one. If she were to help set up a chain of stores in Korea they would promote her to a high ranked position. The high ranked position would be CEO of the Korean branch. Of course she was completely against moving to Korea but she couldn't pass up the opportunity. With my help she eventually learned enough Korean to get her around. Of course she would have to learn at least three more languages. Luckily I also speak French so it was not all that hard to get her a better chance of this opportunity. Even I have to learn two more languages. 

 

"Umm... I can't really read the menu. It's in Korean." Daisy commented and I was broken out of my thoughts. It took a second for me to adjust to the sound of English. It really did feel weird to be hearing and speaking it again. I blinked a couple of times and then struggled with my English. 

 

"We-well there is-are some uhh... Cappuccinos... And uhm... There is hot chocolate. And... tea. Uh... Sorry! I'm not used to English." I stuttered over the words, my pronunciation off quite a bit. They gave me apologetic smiles and just told me to get the same thing I got. I nodded and told the ajummah in Korean. She smiled, nodded, and retreated behind the counter. "So..." I found myself staring at the table as I played with the bag in my lap. 

 

"Can you not speak English anymore?" Krissy cautiously spoke, enunciating each syllable as if I was a child. I understood her reasons for it but I was still hurt nonetheless. 

 

"I can... Speak still. I can understand. It's just... Been a long time and I'm.. Not used to it. I speak Korean here... All day so..." I slowly felt the English start rolling off my tongue a little easier than before, but sill a little broken with an accent. 

 

"You look different. Different than before the... Uh..." Daisy struggled. 

 

"Accident." I finished for her and just gave her a small smile. "The reconstructive surgery I had did... most of it. And my skin was slightly burned... so when it all healed... My tone was lighter. And I never went outside. I was avoiding... It." More and more the language crept back and I found it easier to communicate. Though I was talking about painful times, thoughts of Chanyeol kept my smile up. 

 

"Oh..." Both Krissy and Daisy nodded. 

 

"So what have you guys been doing? You're all still in school right? Why come in the middle of the school year? It's still like December you know." I giggled slightly and leaned forward in my chair. 

 

"We all took a leave of absence kind of thing. It's senior year so it's not so big. If anything we can say we were scouting for colleges." Daisy laughed her old laugh and I almost laughed with her. It had been such a long time since we last saw each other. Just then the ajummah came back with our orders and I smiled and thanked her, giving a small bow of my head. The other two girls mimicked my actions. 

 

"Drink up! This is on me arasso?" The ajummah smiled warmly at me. 

 

My eyes widened. "A-Aniya! I can pay for it. You're struggling ajummah. I will pay for it." I gave her a big reassuring smile as I patted her hands. 

 

"Ne! Gamsahamnida! If I had a son I would gladly marry him to you." She laughed heartily as she walked away. "Enjoy!"

 

"What did she say?""Krissy looked at me with curious eyes. 

 

"Just that she would marry me to her son if she had one. But I can't really do that anyway..." I smiled to myself. 

 

"Kevin is leaving." Daisy spoke but didn't look at me. "He's getting on the next flight out of Seoul. I just thought you'd want to know."
