It’s been half a year since I arrived in Korea and the weather is getting pretty cold. I wonder how my best friend is doing back in America; it’s been so long since I last saw her…

She and I did almost everything together, and no one knew me better than she did. Her name was Stella, and we met on the first day of school. I remember how she came up to me and asked me if I was a new student. At first I was scared of her because she seemed overly confident with herself, but then as I became friends with her, I learnt that people actually really disliked her because of her boldness.

Being friends with her for so many years had its influence on me; I changed from being shy and timid to more bold and outgoing.

I miss her a lot even though we still keep in touch through Skype, and phone calls, but it’s just not the same without her.

I’m thinking about Stella a lot today because it’s my birthday, and it’s the first year in a long time for me to be celebrating my birthday without her.

Every year, she would always make me one of her special ‘famous’ rainbow coloured cakes, and we’d always eat it together as we spaz over dramas.

“Appa!” You jumped beside him when he was reading his newspaper, and wrapped your arms around his arm, “How much do you love me?”

“Oh? Why are you asking me this?” Your dad looked at you in confusion then took off this glasses, “What is it that you want Eunsung?”

“Appa…” You began, “I really miss Stella eonni … so I was hoping that I could fly to America for the winter break..”

You frowned and pouted, “Ah waaee??”

“Just no.” Your dad said casually as he kept reading the newspaper.

You pouted and walked away.That failed.

You decided to take a walk in the park that was across the street from your dorm. The fresh air blew into your face and through your hair as you closed your eyes and inhaled the afternoon air.

All of a sudden your phone went off. You looked at the caller ID, and had the biggest smile as you picked up.

I know, me too. It now that you’re gone.

“How is it there? I bet it’s pretty warm huh.”

Mmm… anyway, so I called to wish you a happy birthday, too bad I can’t bake you my ‘famous’ rainbow cake this year. You heard her chuckle at the other line.
