Confessions (Part 2)
Only YouYou suppress a gasp and then look down at yourself. Your underwear is just barely visible through your nightgown, and you turn a deep shade of embarrassed scarlet.
You try to pull away from Chen hastily, but he grabs your hand and pulls you into his lap. You're shocked. Chen has never done something so outlandishly bold before, and it was starting to scare you.
You try to get up, but Chen locks his sturdy arms around your body, restricting your movement.
“Chen...” You say slowly. “Do you-...could you...possibly...let me up for a second?” You lift your arms up, and gingerly attempt to pry his fingers from your body.
He suddenly releases you, and falls backwards onto the couch. He covers his face with the back of his hand.
“I’m sorry…I thought I could do som-…I-…I don’t know what I was thinking. I can’t do this to you.I’m sorry.” He says softly.
You slide off his lap to sit next to him. “Chen, I’m sorry.” You whisper.
Chen takes your hand in his lightly. He looks you straight in the face.
“You…do you like anyone right now?” He says, his lips just barely forming the words.
Immediately, you think of Kris…and his cold, indifferent attitude towards you.
“I-…” you hesitate for a second longer, then sigh. “No, I don’t.”
“Then…will you go-,”
“Chen, I see you as a really good friend of mine.” You interrupt.
“And I see you as a woman. A beautiful woman, who always thinks of others before herself, is kind and forgiving and…is creative.”
Chen speaks softly, his volume slowly escalating. “An amazing woman who would do anything for her friends and is selfless and generous and-,”
“Chen, I’m not like that.” You gently protest. “I really am not.”
“Then show me your human side. Show me who you are. Who you really are. I want to know all sides of you. Perfect or imperfect, I want to accept you for who you are, not for who I see you as.” He gazes deeply into your eyes, and you feel a flicker of strong feeling inside you. You can’t identify the feeling, but it feels warm. And warm was good, right?
Chen continues, “Just give me two weeks. If you’ll see me as a man because you truly like me at the end of these two weeks, then we’ll date. If you still see me as only a friend, then forget about this. Forget about me, and go forward with your life.”
You sigh. This was so cliché. But you agree, going against the tiny voice in the pit of your mind that protested on behalf of Kris.
“Alright, Chen. But I would do this for no one but you, so understand that.”
He nods excitedly, falling back into his usual happy-go-lucky state. Seeing his gentle face break out into a smile puts a grin on your face, and you finish bandaging up his hands.
Just as you get up to put away the first-aid kit, you remember your attire. You feel a blush creeping back onto your face.
“By the way, you will forget all you have seen here.” You tell Chen, turned around. You spot a blanket on another couch and skitter sideways. You snatch it up and quickly drape it over yourself. You turn around to see that Chen has also turned a bright red.
“Um, n-no problem.” He stammers cutely. You feel one side of your mouth tug up into a little smile, and you see Chen to the door.
“Well…don’t forget what we talked about…” Chen says nervously. “…because I know I won’t.” You smile and nod at him, happy to be moving onto a new chapter in your life. “Then…bye. See you tomorrow!” He says quickly. He turns to leave, then rushes back and pulls you into a warm hug. You hug him back, and then he releases you.
“Bye.” He repeats softly.
“Bye.” You echo.
