Chapter 18

The Little Things [Discontinued Indefinitely]

^ Haha Soosica trolls...

[Jessica’s POV]

I was busy cutting the stems of the roses and wondered what they were doing up there that was taking them so long.

Tiffany’s grandmother was helping me and she sighed deeply.

“What is that girl doing up there?” she scratched her chin. “I’ll go see… thanks a lot for helping dear.” She smiled at me and I returned it kindly.

While her grandmother excused herself, Sooyoung’s face came into mind. I couldn’t help but crack a smile at the thought of her so-called “eye-smile”. Though I had to admit that despite her silly expression, it was very cute. There was on particular photo that stuck in my mind that made my heart flutter a little. Her face shone in just the right light and she gave a pleasant expression. What an odd sensation… but I liked it. It felt warm. I wonder what it meant though…

“Sorry about the wait Jess, we shopped more than I thought we did.” Tiffany giggled joining up behind me.

I chuckled back. After the whole café incident we rushed out the door but couldn’t help but window shop. Not to mention a nice little bakery with the loveliest smell. Sooyoung would have probably been drooling over all the goods.

I heard commotion and looked up to see a large crowd of people enter the store dressed in formal attire. They looked like they were going to a wedding.

“We’re sorry to come in so abruptly, but we need 100 bunches of flower arrangements… our original order was delayed and we have a wedding today! If you could do that it we would be so grateful!” A man in a dark tuxedo sputtered out to the older woman.

She looked at him baffled. “T-today? I don’t know if we can do that…”

The crowd of people began to panic giving each other worried glances.

“We’ll help!” Sooyoung suddenly burst out of nowhere. I only looked at her wide-eyed.

“Right Sica?” she winked. I absentmindedly nodded.

“Are you sure?” Tiffany’s grandma asked.

“Of course… I mean it’s their most important day of their life right?” Sooyoung explained in a determined tone.

“Okay, well I don’t see what the harm in trying is… we better get started!” Tiff’s grandma chimed in.

The crowd cheered and let out breaths of relief.

“Thank you so much!” One of the girls rushed giving Sooyoung an unexpected hug. Sooyoung seemed surprised and simply patted the girl’s back.

Who did she think she was? I shot daggers into her back, which she seemed to notice and backed off.

The commotion died down a bit and we began to arrange various flowers together following the theme they gave us. It was a lot harder than I thought and I began to get frustrated.

Sooyoung seemed to notice and sat down beside me.

“You just have to make sure that the stems are the right length and make sure they align properly.” She demonstrated by placing the flowers in a small vase and putting the small flowers in first followed by the tall ones on top. “Once you have the basic arrangement, add the extras.” She slipped in the leaves and lavender. I couldn’t help but be awed by her work.

“Wow, you’re really good at this.” I complimented observing the arrangement.

She nodded smugly. “I used to do it as a little hobby. I didn’t have many friends so I did this in my free time.” She explained.

I opened my mouth in disbelief. “You didn’t have many friends? No way…”

She chuckled at my reaction. “Probably hard for you to believe, but I used to be a pretty closed in person…”

I tilted my head in confusion. “Really? What made you open up?” I was intrigued by her sudden revelation.

She shrugged. “I was surprised myself. When I met you, I don’t know why, but I felt like I could trust you.” she gave a sincere look.

I blushed a little turning away slightly. “Is that so? W-well we better g-get back to the a-arrangments.”  Damn it, why did I stutter?

She simply nodded giving me a light pat on the shoulder before walking back to her original spot. I felt a little lonely when she left, but carried on anyway.

I stared at her arrangement and for the next few hours, attempted to replicate it.

----Later----

We all collapsed onto each other, finally finishing the order. The crowd shouted cheers of appreciation and went on their way.

“Never again… am I doing that.” I sighed out. Despite it being her hobby, Sooyoung agreed with me.

“Thanks so much for your help girls… you really accomplished a great deed. Here.” She tried handing us some money, but Sooyoung turned it away.

“I’m always happy to help. It was actually pretty fun.”

I did the same and the old woman smiled graciously.  “How blessed my grandbaby is to have such wonderful friends.”

“We could say the same thing.” I gave Tiffany a quick hug. “We better get going now.” I suggested.

“Okay, take care. I’ll see you at school. Thanks for stopping by!” Tiffany called out.

Sooyoung and I exited the shop. Surprisingly, it was still bright outside.

“Want to go for a walk?” she asked and I just nodded.

After awhile we reached a park and sat down at a bench next to a playground.

We sat in silence for a bit when we glanced at each other.

“I’m sorry.” We said simultaneously.

“What are you sorry for?” I asked curiously.

She sighed. “I shouldn’t have pushed you earlier… about the festival. How about you?” she asked.

I sighed as well. “I overreacted. I shouldn’t have shouted at you for no reason.”

There was silence again when Sooyoung spoke.

“Why don’t you want to go…?” she asked carefully.

I played with the hem of my shorts contemplating whether to tell her or not. Just then, her words echoed in my mind.

“I don’t know why, but I felt like I could trust you.”

In all honesty, for the same reason, I felt like I trusted her as well. Being around her made me feel safe and although she could get annoying, I enjoyed her company.

I decided to tell her my childhood trauma story and when I looked at her, she just nodded trying to process all of the information.

“I see… so that explains why you hate crowds.”

“Mhm…”

By the look on her face, I thought that she was going to laugh at me, but instead she seemed to accept my situation.

“Don’t worry about it Sica… we all have weaknesses. I won’t force you into something you aren’t comfortable with.” She reasoned kindly.

I nodded gratefully.

She stood up stretching her arms. “Well how about we head back?”

I sat on the bench and she was about to walk away. I caught her arm and she looked back confused.

“About the festival…” I took a deep breath but shook my head. “Nevermind.” I whispered.

She raised her brows. “What’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing...”

She seemed determined to not let it go. “Tell me~” She sang in an aegyo voice.

I groaned. “Well now I’m DEFINITELY not telling you.”

“Awh come on Sica! Tell me, Tell me T-t-t-t-tell me!” She got up and started dancing.

Passbyers were giving us strange looks and I tried to pull her back down. “Choi Sooyoung! Stop that!”

She smirked and I knew she was messing with me. “Tell me then~”

“Aish, if you’re going to be like that I’m going home!” I faked being angry and stomped off.

As expected, she stopped me and apologized. “I was kidding Sica… don’t be mad.” She showed me her puppy dog eyes and stuck out her bottom lip. Cute.

“Fine… you’re forgiven… on one condition.” I crossed my arms sternly as she waited for my next instruction. I thought for a moment. “Teach me how to do flower arrangements.” I concluded.

“Seems reasonable.” She agreed to my request. “I have an idea! Close your eyes.” She instructed.

Not bothering to protest, I closed them. Her hand wrapped around mine. “Just follow me.”

-----10 minutes later----

“Choi Sooyoung, this better be good…” I complained, eyes still shut.

“Don’t worry, it will be.”

It feels like we had been walking forever when she finally stopped. There was a strong smell similar to Tiffany’s flower shop.

“Okay… open them.”

I opened my eyes and was met by the most beautiful sight of a large garden filled with a vast amount of flowers, sorted in rows with a little dirt path running between them.

I could only stand in disbelief. “Wow…”

She ushered me down the path until we reached a small clearing just behind a cherry blossom.

“I came here a lot… to think and of course admire nature’s beauty.” She sat down and I joined her.

“This is amazing… I didn’t even know this place existed… why don’t you come anymore? I’d be here everyday if I knew of such a place.” I examined my surroundings stopping now and then to take it in.

She smiled warmly. “I don’t have to go very far to admire beauty nowadays.”

I gave her a curious glance and waited for her to explain.

She reached over grabbing one of the lilies and brushed it over my ear before leaning back staring at me. “See? Beautiful.”

My heart fluttered more than before and I wanted to turn away but my eyes locked with hers. The feeling in my chest was light and I felt as if I could just sprout wings and fly away. What was wrong with me? Surely I was going crazy. We just stared at each other in silence, only the ambience of birds singing and leaves rustling in the wind.

“Hey! What are you kids doing over there!” A man called from across the garden. We snapped out of our daze and Sooyoung grabbed my hand. I wanted her to explain what was going on.

“Hehe… there was something that I forgot to tell you… but no time right now!” She sprinted away, leaving me flailing behind her.

-------OoOoO-------

“Why… didn’t you tell me… it was… A PRIVATE GARDEN!??!” I yelled at her.

We were panting heavily as we struggled to take air into our lungs.

“I’m… sorry! I didn’t think… we’d get…caught.” She attempted to explain herself.

I finally caught my breath and punched her hard in the shoulder.

“Ow! I said I was sorry!” she pouted while rubbing the spot where I made impact.

“I know… but that doesn’t change the fact that we could have gotten in trouble!” I scolded.

She continued to pout. “What’s the fun in obeying the rules all the time? You shouldn’t be afraid to take a risk now and then Sica…”

“A-are you calling me boring?” I felt offended.

“Yep!” she stuck her tongue out childishly.

Appalled, “Well excuse me, but I can live ‘on the edge’ too!”

“Oh really? Prove it.” She challenged.

I muttered out agitated gibberish. She let gave me a victory smirk and was about to boast when I thought of something.

“The festival!” She seemed a little confused. “I’ll go to the festival then…” I was determined wipe that smirk off her face, which was successful.

“Are you sure? I was just messing with you, you don’t have to do anything drastic…” she tried to rationalize, but I already made up my mind.

“Nope I’m going Choi Sooyoung and that’ll show you who is boring” I don’t understand why I was getting so worked up, but I really felt the urge to prove her wrong.

“Okay then, no backing out! If you do, then you have to do what I want for a week, if you accomplish this, then vice versa.” we shook hands on it and continued on our way.

====Dorm====

We returned to the dorm and I collapsed on the bed. What a long day… I closed my eyes lightly when today’s events suddenly sunk in.

From relaxing in a café, to the awkward phone call, to arranging bouquets in Tiffany’s flower shop… my little outing and “bet” with Sooyoung.

Oh no… the bet. I groaned. What have I gotten myself into this time?  My heart raced thinking about it. It’s okay… just a few people. I can get over this… I just have to stay calm and things will go fine. Just think of the benefits… I’d have gotten over my fear and Sooyoung would be my slave to boot!

I heard the door click but was too tired to respond and resumed my position laying face up with my eyes closed.

“She must have been tired.” I hear Sooyoung’s voice then felt her body near me. I could almost feel her breath on my cheek.

Her soft hand gently brushes a strand of hair out of my face. “Who knew such an angel could exist on this earth.” She whispered.

I tried hard to suppress my blush.

“There are so many things I wish I could tell you, but I’m afraid…” she trailed off.

Afraid of what? I wondered, but as if to read my mind she spoke again.

“I think the thing I’m most afraid of is losing you… it may sound selfish but… please stay by my side.”

With that, she stood up and covered my body with a warm blanket, she bent down and kissed my forehead.

“Goodnight Sica~” she cooed before retreating to her own bed.

Blood rushed to my face and I felt very hot at that moment.

What are you doing to me Choi Sooyoung?

Comments? :)

So I realized that this story is 99% Soosica biased and I wanted to know if you wanted me to feature another pairing (yoonyul, sunyeon, hyoseo...etc?) If so, let me know! If not, that's okay too :P

Until next time!

Peace out
