Chapter 16

The Little Things [Discontinued Indefinitely]

Sorry for the Late-ish update~ AFF has been kinda wacky lately so I haven't been able to view stories :/

So when it actually started working, I was like:

Anywhooo..... Here ya go~!

[Jessica’s POV]

My phone began to vibrate and I glanced at the ID.

It was Sooyoung.

I peeked over at her. She had her phone to her ear, waiting for me to pick up. I contemplated answering, or just getting out of here.

Tiffany was looking at me curiously.

After the 4th ring, I finally decided to answer it. ‘Just be cool Jessica.’ I thought to myself.

I take a deep breath before speaking. “H-hello?” Dammit. So much for keeping my cool.

“Hey! It’s Sooyoung!” she smiled happily.

“Uh… hi.” All I could respond, trying not to blow my cover.

“So… I was wondering… what are you doing right now?” she asked, completely oblivious of my presence across the room.

“I’m… uh…”

I could tell that Tiffany was now holding a giggle, curious to as what I was going to say.

“I’m just at Tiffany’s flower shop.” I lie.

The expression on Sooyoung’s face faltered slightly, but her voice reflected the opposite. In fact it seemed more enthusiastic.

“Oh I see! Well I’m just at this café in town and wanted to know… if you wanted to meet up?” Sooyoung’s voice filled with uncertainty.

“Uh…well… I’m kind of… busy.” I lied again.

She seemed to buy it. “Oh… okay.”  She lowered her head with disappointment.

Guilt crept into my conscious and I glanced at Tiffany. She pointed to her watch then the direction of her shop.

“Why don’t you stop by later?” I quickly suggested.

Sooyoung’s expression brightened at my invitation. “Sure! Sounds good! I’ll see you then!”

“Ah…sure.” With that, I ended the call.

‘SUCH A PABO JESSICA!!’ I shouted to my self internally.

Tiffany just stared blankly at me. I guess she was surprised by my sudden action too.

“Shall we head out now?” I asked, scurrying out, before we could draw suspicion.

[Sooyoung’s POV]

“Ah…sure.” With that, she ended the call.

I pulled the receiver away from my ear and furled my brows in confusion. “What the…” I felt a hint of worry because Sica’s voice seemed a little off.

“What’s wrong?” My company tilted her head while managing to still devoure her meal.

“I don’t know…  she must be… pre-occupied.“ I sighed, slipping my phone back into my pocket.

Just then, from the corner of my eye I noticed two figures rush out the door. They seemed strangely familiar, but I couldn’t put my finger on it.

“So Soo,” I turn my attention back to her. “How are things going over at your new school? You haven’t called or texted me, so I take things are going well?” she asked, taking a sip of her soda.

I nodded. “Yeah, things are going good, it has definitely been an adventure that’s for sure.” I smiled, reminiscing.

She smiled reaching over and patting my head. “I’m glad. You really turned over a new leaf.”

“What’s that supposed to mean?” I pout and she pinches my cheek.

“Aigoo… wae is my sister so cute~” she giggled and sat back down.

“AHH! Jin! Stop treating me like that! I’m not 10!” I pouted more and rubbed my red cheek.

She chuckled. “Mianhae… I just missed you.”

Her phone began to ring. She looked at me apologetically before answering.

“Hello? Yes that’s me… mhm… I see. Okay, I’ll be there soon.” She hung up.

She let out a loud groan. “I have to go… duty calls!” She smirked before continuing. “Let’s meet up again sometime okay? Also, bring your girlfriend with you, I’m curious to meet her.”

My mouth gaped open with my face red in embarrassment. “W-what g-girlf-friend?” I stuttered.

“Don’t play dumb, I saw your face when you were talking to her just now.” She teased.

“T-that was just…my…friend. That’s it. ” I let out an unconscious sigh.

“I see…” Soojin still had a teasing smirk on her face.

“AISH! Just go!” I shooed her off and she waved before leaving.

-----~0o0~-------

I walked out of the café, taking a deep breath of the fresh air.

I wonder if I should head over to the flower shop. Just then I realized I hadn’t asked her where it was exactly. I hit my forehead with my palm.

I mindlessly walked down the street, occasionally doing some window-shopping. I could smell the beautiful scent of cinnamon rolls coming from a local bakery. My mouth watered. Although I just ate, my appetite came rushing back. Without hesitation, I entered.

My nose never smelt anything more delicious. I had to remember to come back again. I took a gander at all the delicious treats set out before me.

“Looking for anything in particular?” the cashier asked, wiping her hands on her apron.

“Oh, nothing really… I just couldn’t help but stop by. The smell was irresistible!” I complimented brightly.

“Oh thank-you! We actually just took out a fresh batch of cinnamon rolls. Did you want to try one?” she offered thoughtfully.

I nodded my head frivolously.

She handed the steamy roll over the counter, and I bit into it, savoring the flavor.

My eyes widened. The taste was something of another world. She giggled at my reaction.

“That good?” she asked rhetorically.

“Can I get three of these please?” I grabbed out my wallet, but remembered that I only had 3 dollars left.

She was ringing them through, and I sighed heavily.

“Is something wrong?” she asked.

I nodded. “I’m sorry, I don’t have enough money on me.”

When there was no response, I looked up at her and she was staring at me with her head slightly tilted.

I returned the strange expression, when she suddenly snapped her fingers.

 “Choi Sooyoung!” she called out.

I scratched my head. “That’s my name…How’d--”

“I knew it! Do you remember me?” she asked pointing to herself.

I studied her features. She had long, brown straight hair, round, brown eyes and a small face.

“I’m sorry… I don’t…”

She pouted. “We went to the same school before you transferred!”

I tried to think back. I really couldn’t remember. “…uh.”

She grabbed my shoulders from across the counter and pulled me towards her. I gulped at the close proximity of our faces.

She stared deeply into my eyes. “You really don’t remember me Choi Sooyoung?” she seemed frustrated.

I regretfully shook my head.

She smirked. “Interesting… well I guess I’ll help you remember…” She brought herself even closer to me. I tried to resist, but her grip was surprisingly strong.

Who is this girl!?! I continued to struggle.

Just then, someone called out from the back room. “HARA! We need you to clean up back here!”

She immediately let go of me and I resumed my position in front of the counter, dazed at what just happened.

“Neh!” she responded. She looked back at me. “You can take the rolls, no charge.” She winked before disappearing into the back room.

I shuddered. What a weird girl.

I left the bakery, still slightly phased by what happened. Hara was her name? She went to my previous school? Aish… I seriously can’t remember.

I shrugged. Well at least I got some free food out of it!

Where to now? I pondered looking in all directions. To my luck, I found a nearby map station, and was looking at it. I followed the directions and pointed at the flower shop.

“Ah-ha!” I shouted out loud.

I suddenly felt a gruff hand pat my shoulder. I spun around and was met with a rather tall, well-built man. He wore a black suit, and sunglasses. Almost like some bodyguard or something.

“I’m sorry to bother you, but I couldn’t help but notice you were heading to Hwang’s Bouquet?” He asked gently.

I nodded cautiously.

“Ah, that’s great. Do you happen to know Tiffany Hwang?” he asked.

I nodded again, a little more confidently.

He smiled. “Do you mind giving this to her?” He took out a small black box, a little smaller than a shoebox and it had a pink bow on it. “I was on my way there, but something came up, and I don’t have time.”

He didn’t seem like a bad guy, pretty handsome and gentleman-like. I wonder if he was Tiffany’s boyfriend of something. I don’t know why that thought excited me.

“Sure… but could I ask who you are… in case she asks?”

He chuckled. “Just a family friend. She’ll know.” He handed me the box. It was surprisingly heavy. “Thanks for this!” and he walked off.

I eyed the box curiously. Why was it so heavy? I shook my head. I shouldn’t peek, it wouldn’t be right.

With that, I headed towards the Flower shop.
