Once Upon A Time
Description
He let out a deep sigh as he peered down into the dark and murky water below. After a moment's contemplation, he finally grabbed the guardrail and began to climb over.
"Don't do it!" he heard a voice shout out.
Before he even had time to react, he felt arms encircling his waist from behind. The arms clung to him and refused to let go. He was too stunned to protest as he felt himself being pulled away from the edge of the bridge.
"Please don't do it," the voice pleaded.
Despite being a fair distance from the bridge, the person's arms remained wrapped around his waist, as if afraid that he would jump over that bridge at the first chance he got.
"I won't," he finally answered.
It was only then that the arms around him slowly released their hold on him.
He let out a sigh before turning around to face the one who had intervened.
There, standing before him was a teenage boy dressed in a school uniform.
"Dying isn't going to solve anything," said the boy. "You'll only make your family and all those who love you, sad."
He stared at the boy in silence, not knowing what to make of the situation. Here he was, a grown man, being lectured by a boy almost half his age.
"Family?" he finally asked and shrugged, nonchalantly. "I don't have any so no one's going to be sad." He paused a moment as he kept his eyes on the boy who seemed rather concerned. "And love?" he scoffed with amusement. "I doubt there's any one that loves me."
For a moment, the boy's expression saddened but it was soon replaced by a smile. "Don't worry. If no one loves you, then I will."
