Sirek (Part 1)

In the Name of Love

Sirek. That’s the name of a magical spell. A difficult one. A powerful one. A dangerous one.

It took years for someone (who had to be gifted of course) to master.

The pronunciation had to be accurate. The rhythm had to be just right. The tone had to be absolutely perfect. The mind had to be fully concentrated, leaving no room to any other thoughts, no matter how tiny. What’s more, the reservoir of magic had to be sufficient. By sufficient it meant a lot. This magical spell demanded a huge amount of magic.

The reward, nevertheless, was justified. Well there wouldn’t be fancy sparks or dancing light beams or flying objects. Most of the people on earth wouldn’t even feel a thing. If you’re just an ordinary person this spell had no effect on you. Don’t worry. It only had an impact on magicians. To be precise on one particular magician, the one chosen by the caster.

Actually this spell itself wouldn’t do harm to that particular magician. It wouldn’t incur pain. It wouldn’t draw blood. That particular magician remained conscious and wide-awake. Yet all magicians were scared of this spell. Many attempted to master it. Few succeeded.

Why?

Once fallen victim that magician couldn’t move. That’s OK. What’s important was he / she wouldn’t be able to make magical gestures or chant magical spells. Only for a period of time though. That depended on how strong the caster was.

During that period of time, that particular magician was like , his armor of magic torn off. All his / her vulnerabilities were exposed. Even a child could push a knife into his / her stomach, rip open his / with a dagger. Well it had never happened that a child killed a magician like that. In all cases the caster was just too happy to take things into his / her own hands, than to share the joy with a kid.

It was believed that there’s no way to counter this spell. The best one could do was to make one’s escape before it was cast, meaning to get out of the magical field of the caster. Of course killing the caster fast enough would do as well.

After ruthlessly breaking Donghae, Eunhyuk His Majesty spent the next few days doing battles. And that day Eunhyuk encountered this spell for the 2nd time in his life.

It was a surprise to Eunhyuk. Really you shouldn’t underestimate the complexity behind Sirek. In the whole span of history, the number of magicians who possessed Sirek capability could be counted with one hand.

The green magical bloodline was once strong. They were the last to fall before the triumph of Kingdom Omega. Even after that their survivors, magicians and alchemists, stayed united together.

That day His Majesty was determined to take them down, ultimately down.

Kyuhyun and the army of assassins fought the alchemists. His Majesty, of course, had to deal with the magicians.

It was easier than Eunhyuk expected. The parents, too old to put up a fight. The eldest son, not cunning enough. The 2nd eldest, probably too lazy to practice. The 3rd, lacking battle experience.

Staring down disdainfully at their dead bodies Eunhyuk couldn’t contain his satisfied smile. He didn’t bother actually. It felt really good knowing one more magical bloodline had ended. His lips crooked, radiating again that deathly charm.

Eunhyuk turned to leave. Alerted his eyes opened wide. There’s one more…

……

Eunhyuk froze. Eyes fixed on that young boy slowly approaching him, Eunhyuk’s blood turned cold. He felt death’s ghostly hand touch his spine, and slowly move downwards. The chill was way more striking than frost or ice. Not only his skin and nerves. Even his heart felt it. And his soul felt it the best.

The boy was wearing a green robe like his parents and siblings. He was like only 15. To a certain extent he resembled Eunhyuk. Not his appearance but that he was cold, smart… and dangerous. As he walked towards Eunhyuk, the boy’s teary eyes had hatred and anger and pain burning inside.

While Eunhyuk was frozen this young magician was trembling. Not because of fear but rage. And maybe excitement and thrills as well. He had never killed anyone before. It’s exhilarating that he successfully imprisoned His Majesty with that spell; and that his first victim would be Eunhyuk His Majesty!

And soon he himself would become His Majesty. The boy grinned, a cold, creepy dagger in his hand.

Enjoying the fear and shock and helplessness shooting out of Eunhyuk’s eyes the boy spoke derisively. “Bah! How does it feel? Your Majesty-soon-to-die?”

Eunhyuk couldn’t reply.

“Never thought of this huh? Today is your doom! Your downfall!” The boy glared at Eunhyuk. His eyes sparkled with evil now.

The boy approached further. Eunhyuk remained unmoving.

“Seriously you should thank me! Given your sins so deep I should torture each and every single bit of you! But I will finish you fast and clean!”

The dagger flashed as the boy it forward.

……

A whimper…

Face twisted in anguish, severe pain, agonies…

Eyes widened in horror, disbelief as the feeling of death crept over...

Labored breathing, incoherent noise between dying breaths…

Limbs sagged, dangling lifelessly from the torso…

……

The devil revealed himself.

Wind and magic intertwined and swirled around the black robed figure, who was no doubt the disguise of the devil with his cloak fluttering in the wind. That could only mean one thing.

Today’s your last day.

Slowly, scornfully Eunhyuk turned his head to look down at the young boy. Eunhyuk’s left hand was locking the wrist of the boy’s hand holding the dagger, while his right hand was clamping the other’s neck. His black robe shining, his eyes drinking the pleasure of witnessing death, his lips curled forming the most creepy smirk, his tongue enjoying once again the taste of triumph, his aura radiating chills resembling those of a phantom, at that moment Eunhyuk really looked like a devil. “Seriously you should thank me. I will tell you why.”

Eunhyuk eyed his prey coldly. “Before you die.”

“Number one. You spoke too fast. The rhythm was not right.” The dagger dropped… as Eunhyuk tightened his clutch.

“Number two. Tone of the 4th, 7th and 8th syllable should be lower; and that of the 5th, 6th and 10th syllable should be higher.” The boy’s face slowly turned purple… as Eunhyuk’s fingers dug deeper into his neck.

“Number three. Work harder on your magic. Even if you managed to do everything right, the spell could only last for like… some seconds.” Slowly Eunhyuk shook his head. “No. No more time for you to work harder.”

A moan soaked with agonies… followed by a thud. The boy joined his family. His dead body fell onto the ground.

Number four. Sirek no longer has any effect on me.

Clap Clap Clap…

“And you chose to stand still, instead of helping?” His Majesty turned around, raising an eyebrow.

“I knew he didn’t do it right Your Majesty. He’s too excited dreaming he would win.” Kyuhyun silently chuckled as he began walking towards His Majesty.

Good point Kyuhyun. That’s number five.

When Eunhyuk His Majesty was happy, Kyuhyun was happy (he still didn’t like Donghae though). “The green line can rest in peace, together with their alchemists.”

Satisfied His Majesty smiled, one that would render all beauties on earth ugly. “I know you wouldn’t let me down.”

……

When that young boy cast Sirek, Eunhyuk was indeed frightened. Not because of what’s currently happening. But because it reminded him of that incident - the first time Eunhyuk tasted Sirek. He would never forget that incident.

After spending the sweet and exhausting night with that person, Eunhyuk met his cousin Yeni the next morning.

A ceremony dedicated to their God Omega was to be held. Everybody had to attend. On their way to their place in the hall, Eunhyuk and that person saw Yeni approaching from opposite.

Yeni came to stand in front of them, smiling yet giving that person a provocative stare.

“Yeni Hyung.” Eunhyuk greeted.

Yeni looked at Eunhyuk for a brief moment and nodded. Then he shifted his eyes to stare at that person; tiling his head like saying “It’s your turn”.

That person pursed his lips before reluctantly uttering the word. “Hyung.”

“Very well. By the way… you’re not in your chamber last night?” Yeni smiled, widening his eyes as he asked the question. His face made it clear that it’s not really a question though. He knew it.

That person looked away, jaw tightened. “That’s none of your business.”

“Oh?” Yeni’s grin widened. “Relax! It’s just I cared about you and paid a visit. How disappointing that you’re not there… But it’s OK. Really!” Yeni mocked a sad face, stressing on the last word.

As Yeni resumed his strides he looked at Eunhyuk. “And Eunhyuk… you look great. Really great.”

Yeni stopped beside Eunhyuk. He added. “Like someone in love. You slept well last night?”

Yeni didn’t wait for an answer. He continued walking towards his seat, didn’t bother to hide his smirk.

That person narrowed his eyes.

An awful feeling was prickling Eunhyuk’s stomach. Something had changed. Something was about to happen. He could feel it. Knowledge was an asset. It’s also a weapon. Obviously Yeni knew that as well.
