Hansol stood still on his balcony as he allowed the wind to caress his skin gently. The weather was growing colder with each passing day and Hansol knew it wouldn't be long before snow graced them with its presence. It wasn't like the boy minded though, no, he actually preferred it. Snow, after all, resembled him in many ways. It was cold, numb, and emotionless, just like himself. Hansol let his eyes flicker to the busy streets below him as he leaned against the ice cold rail inches away from him. In a daze, he watched as a group of younger teens below him belted for the rice cake stand feet away from them.
'It must be nice, being that care-free.'
Hansol couldn't remember the last time he did anything that could be considered "care-free." His team members always dragged him around with them to arcades and food stands, but the act of kindness was lost on him. How could it mean anything to him when he wasn't capable of feeling the happiness and care-freeness that others his age felt? As far as he could remember, any emotion he had ever felt was fake, forced, and apart of the mask he carried around on his face. The only exception was his brother, Tae, and his guardian.
The same guardian who saved him years ago from a traumatic kidnapping.
Hansol remembered the night as if it was yesterday. He remembered the cries of his brother, Kim Taeyong, as he was dragged away, bleeding and injured, by his kidnappers. He recalled screaming at the sight of the the blood pooling around his father's unconscious body. Most importantly, however, he remembered being tossed into the backseat of a sleek black Mercedes besides a man oozing of danger and killer intent.
He remembered the man reaching out to his injury, the area he was shot, with a regretful expression as he muttered the words he longed to hear at that time, "Your safe Hansol-ah, and soon, soon, I'll bring Taeyong-ah to you as well."
Hansol had no choice but to believe that the man would follow up with his promise. He wasn't disappointed, though, because a week later his guardian had brought before him another boy he "saved." With wide brown eyes that could only belong to one perso
