Letting You Go
You enjoyed the ride immensely and felt so hyper due to the rush of adrenaline you got. You ended up dragging Junhyung on most of the indoor and outdoor rides before it started to rain so you and Junhyung had no choice but to go back indoors.
“Oppa, we’ve taken all the fun indoor rides already. What should we do next?” You asked while looking around. Your eyes landed on the indoor ice-skating rink and widened. “Shall we try ice-skating?” You nodded enthusiastically, as if trying to get Junhyung to nod as well.
Junhyung couldn’t help but laugh at your expression. “Okay, but let’s get something to eat first alright?” You agreed as you were beginning to feel hungry too. Just as the both of you were about to walk towards the food carts, Junhyung’s phone rang and he stopped to answer his phone. When he didn’t end he call after a few minutes, you decided to go get some food for the both of you instead of just standing around and waiting for him. You tapped him on his shoulder and gestured to him to indicate you intention before going off in the direction of the food stalls.
However, when you bought 2 portions of snacks and returned to the place you left Junhyung at, you couldn’t find him anywhere. You wondered whether he had gone to the restroom and decided to wait for a while. After 10 minutes had passed and he hadn’t returned, you started to worry that something had happened to him. You placed the snacks on the nearest surface available and took out your handphone to call Junhyung.
Junhyung answered on the fourth ring. “Oppa! Thank goodness! Where are you? I can’t find you. I’m at the place I left you at.” You asked, feeling slightly relieved.
“Oh. I’m on the subway already. My friends called to tell me about an audition that is in less than an hour so I have to rush there. It’s still early so go find your friend and have a good time alright? See you at home!” Junhyung replied somewhat shortly, as if he didn’t want to prolong the conversation.
“Ok oppa. Good luck for your audition then. See you later.” You ended the call and slumped down onto the nearest bench. You couldn’t help but feel disappointed.
You sat there for a while, hoping that Junhyung would call you back and tell you that he was just playing around and then surprise you with a birthday present. But he didn’t. You let out a sigh and knew what you had to do next.
“Hello.” Soojin answered.
“Hello, Soojin unni.” You paused for a while, trying your best to form an excuse but couldn’t come up with anything.
“Yup. Are you still there? Is something wrong?” She asked, worry laced in her voice.
“Not really.” You made an effort to sound like you were ok. “Junhyung oppa left to go for an audition that he just got to know of and I’m feeling a little tired so I’m just going to head home first. We won’t be joining you for dinner later, ok?”
“Ok, but are you sure? You could come and join us if you want.” She added.
“It’s ok, unni. I’m fine. You have fun though and thanks again for the birthday present.”
“Alright then. Take care.”
“You too, unni.”
The call made you feel even worse. Soojin, who you had known for only the past one year, seemed to care more about you than your best friend of 12 years. You stood up, threw away the food that you bought and slowly made your way back home.
