Letting You Go

“I’ve got to run already! I’ll leave everything to you now! Call me if anything happens.” You said while hurriedly putting on your shoes. You turned around to face the girl, whose name is Joanne and was only a few years older than you. She was balancing Minhyuk in one arm so you leaned forward and placed a quick peck on his forehead. “Be a good boy alright. Mommy will be home soon.” You cooed, and to which he replied with his adorable little squeals and gurgles.

You smiled softly at him and looked back at the girl. “Bye! See you later!” You said as you walked towards the door.

“Bye! Don’t worry about us and have fun at school!” She called back when you were already halfway out the door.

Joanne was Kibum’s last surprise for you. She had appeared on the day that Kibum and the rest had left and told you that she was one of his seniors and that she had plenty of experience dealing with babies and toddlers since she had worked part-time at a baby and childcare centre before. He had asked her if she would be able to help you and she had agreed but only if she felt that she could handle Minhyuk on her own.

Thankfully, when you had introduced her to Minhyuk, he had remained as cheerful and happy as he always is when you or Kibum or any of the other members played with him. Joanne had also fallen in love with his smile and loved to play with him. She even volunteered to stay for longer hours than you needed her to. You were just glad that your son had such a delightful personality and that she was so willing to help.

It was your first day of school and even though you had participated in the orientation just a few days earlier, you wanted to be there early just in case you got lost. You didn’t want to end up being late for your very first class. You were taking double masters in Art Museum and Gallery Studies but your scheduled still wasn’t as packed as it was when you were taking your degree. You had four days of classes and on top of that, you had arranged with your Professor to spread out your graduate thesis research work over the course of the year instead of just the last three months of the study year. It was easier for you to juggle your studies and having to take care of Minhyuk so you were thankful that your Professor had allowed it.

Your lectures went by pretty quickly and before you knew it, your first day of school had come to an end. However, it was far from over for you. You still had to quickly rush off to the museum for an interview with your potential thesis supervisor. You didn’t feel all that prepared but you gave it your best when you arrived at the museum. You interviewer turned out to be younger than you expected. It seemed like he was a student himself but he was actually doing his doctoral fellowship at the museum and needed help with his project. You were supposed to assist him in his research while doing a related side project for your thesis as well. In the end, the interview turned out to be more of an informal briefing orientation as he showed you around the museum as well as the office where you would be working.

When you were finally on your way home, you felt really accomplished since you had successfully made it through your first day of school and also managed to get the internship at the museum. You had been worrying so much about going back to school and all but now that everything was settled, you felt really “light”.

Since it was Minhyuk’s 100th day today, you decided to pop by the café near the apartment to buy a mini cupcake for his celebration. You didn’t want to buy a cake because it was only going to be you and him and since he was only beginning to eat solid foods and you didn’t want to have to end up wasting the cake if you couldn’t finish it.

A sudden thought crossed your head. You suddenly wondered what today would be like if you were back in Korea. Minhyuk’s 100th day celebration would have been a big celebration with Kibum and rest, Soojin and Seyong, as well as your mom. You quickly shook your head and clear away any depressing thoughts before focusing solely on finally getting to see you son again after a long day.

“I’m back!” You called out after stepping into the apartment and shutting the front door behind you.

“We’re in the dining room!” Joanne’s reply floated from inside the house.

You took off your shoes and walked towards the dining room where you saw Joanne on her laptop while Minhyuk was looking around happily in his bouncy chair and on his fingers.

“How was everything?” You asked as you placed the cupcake box on the table and reached out to unbuckled Minhyuk from his chair and carried him. He had started waving his arms and kicking his legs excitedly when he saw you. “Hello~ Has my baby boy you been good?” You cooed.

“Everything was just fine. He’s been wonderful the whole time. I played with him most of the time but he seemed to like it best when I played that CD that you passed to me. He had his bottle about 3 hours ago but he doesn’t seem hungry yet.”

“Yup, he loves that CD the best. It’s the only thing that gets him to calm down when he refuses to go to sleep. And don’t worry, he usually gets hungry around 3 to 4 hours after a feeding so he should be fine. He’d probably be hungry in the next hour.” You reassured.

“Would you like to stay for dinner?” You asked.

“No no. I have dinner plans already. Thanks for offering though.” She said with a smile and began to pack her things.

===========================

I don't think anyone actually expected who the person at the door was! :D Unless you can read my mind of course. Then that would actually be quite creepy =/

Anywho, so many things are happening all together at the same time right now! There's just so many things that I need to be doing so I've had to push back my writing for a few days. Sorry for making all of you wait because of that!!

I'll try and manage my time better so that I can accomplish everything! It'll be a challenge but I'll try my best!!

Oh yes!! This isn't exactly hot off the press but have you heard about Key's first musical?????

I swear. That smirk is totally OMG.

I totally feel like watching this musical just to see how Key will fare singing and acting!! Super exciting news!

I can't believe it ended already. It seems like a few days since I first read this fic, but in reality it has been a year. I also can't believe that I waited for your updates all through out my last year of high school. I've been a ghost reader then a nice one who leaves flattering comments then a ghost reader again. Do you still remember me? Haha. It's okay if you don't, considering the many other not-so-silent readers/subscribers you have. Anyway, I don't have much to say about the final chapter, other than it's still the same ol' awesome writing style, so I want to take this opportunity to thank you. :) for being a selfless author and not abandoning this lovely fic. Now I'm not gonna ask you for a sequel, because I don't to sound so whiny and stuff, and also I think equels ruin a piece of work. :) that's all.

bittersweet but i like open ending n this is sort of open-ending for me. i like seeing endings with so many possibilities laid ahead. n i'm glad she went ahead to finish her studies.
anyway, haven't gotten much time to comment eversince the chaps got really long...xD...but but...love it of course...longer chaps=more great stuffs to read...just...lost on how n where to start commenting...xD
aww, and a bit bittersweet for Junhyung too...well at least he got to spend some time n be a father to Minhyuk even with limitations and all...lucky kid to have so many idols fanboying him...lol.
nothing to say on cupcake...since it'd be just repetition of my old comments on him so yeah...xD
Congrats for completing the fic^^ and thanks for the awesome journey!
