23-

Letting You Go

You woke up earlier than normal to make sure that Soojin would have time to get back home and change and still make it to class on time. As things turned out, it was a good thing that you decided to wake up earlier too because Soojin was practically a dead log. She was even harder to wake than Junhyung! When you finally managed to drag her out of bed, you were so pumped up on adrenaline that you knew that there was no way you could go back to sleep. You headed out of the bedroom and decided to fix some sandwiches so that Soojin could take them to go and have them while on the bus home.

She thanked you for preparing breakfast for her and gave you a quick hug before dashing out of the door. You shook your head with a smile. Just last night, she was mothering you and now the roles seemed to have switched. You decided to get ready and head to school early since you needed to get some reading material, from the library, for an assignment anyway.

You tried not to think about the fact that you were going to see Junhyung again. You had to keep reminding yourself that he may not respond well to what you were going to tell him. Actually, a part deep down inside of you knew that he wouldn’t be too happy to find out but the fact that you were going to see him again just made you feel exceptionally good and hold onto that tiny bit of hope.

The next time you saw Soojin in class, she had changed and was looking completely refreshed. “Wow, unni! What did you do when you got home? You don’t look like the same person who ran out of my house.” You teased.

“Ha. Ha. Very funny.” She wrinkled her nose at you. “I ate your breakfast. That’s what happened. You seriously make the most delicious food!” She expressed.

“But it’s just a simple sandwich! You must have been very hungry. That’s why it tasted exceptionally good to you.” You tried to reason.

“I’m serious! Seyong would agree with me if he had tasted it. How can you be so good at everything?!” She said in mock disbelieve.

You laughed, knowing that she was just teasing you back. “Not everything. I’m really bad at sports.” You whispered to her and then made a face.

When you were on the bus home, you were staring out the window, watching the passing view when your ears picked up a name you recognised. Two girls in high school uniform were talking behind you. “Did you hear the rumour that Xing’s Junhyung has a girlfriend?” One said.

“Really? Are you sure? I didn’t hear anything about that.” The other one quipped.

“Yeah, that rumour has been circulating throughout the fandom recently. It hasn’t been any photos so it’s just rumours for now.” The first girl answered.

You didn’t hear the rest of their conversation because you had reached your stop and had to get off the bus. When you had finally reached home, your mind was buzzing with the possibilities that had been unexpectedly shoved in your face during your bus ride home. Again, against your better judgement, you decided to hold onto whatever hope you had.

You glanced at the clock on the wall. It was already 9:30. Oppa will probably be hungry after his schedules. You busied yourself with making supper for Junhyung before taking a quick shower and then settled comfortably on the couch to watch television while you waited for Junhyung.

You grew sleepier and sleepier as the night gradually fell deeper. It was close to midnight when you heard the muffled but distinct beeping sounds of the electronic lock keypad. You quickly crossed the living room to the door and reached it just when the lock emitted the sound to indicate that an incorrect code had been keyed in. You opened the door before Junhyung could have another go.

“Hello, oppa! Come in.” You moved aside to let him pass.

“Did you change the electronic code?” Junhyung looked back at you curiously. The original code had been his birthday but you changed it shortly after he left. You just didn’t want even the electronic lock to be a constant reminder of him to you.

“Yeah, I change it more often nowadays since I live on my own. Just to be safe.” You smoothly lied.

“Hmm. So what did you want to talk about?” He asked as he sat on the couch.

“Are you hungry? I made kimchi stew if you want to eat.” You ignored his question.

“No. I have a strict diet these days. I can’t just eat whatever I want anymore.” He stated like it was the obvious. “Can you just say what you want to tell me? My manager is waiting downstairs.” It seemed like he was always impatient with you now, like he couldn’t stand being in the same room anymore.

You knitted your eyebrows and went to sit at the other end of the couch. You didn’t know where to start. You hadn’t expected the atmosphere to be so bad. You sat there and fiddled with your hands for a few moments.

“So?” He urged.

“Umm. I’m pregnant.” You cringed at how unsure you sounded.

“What?”

“I said, I’m pregnant.” You repeated, firmly this time. He tensed up.

“Is it even mine?” He hissed.

You stared at him. Nothing he said came as a surprise to you anymore. “What?!” You finally blurted out.

“I know you heard me. If you can sleep with me so easily, I bet there were others.” He cringed for a moment and seemed to have regretted his words but he couldn’t take it back even if he wanted to. The damage was already done.

“I should slap you right now but I really doubt violence will solve anything. I think you’ve made it very clear that you don’t want the baby and you obviously want nothing to do with me either. Unfortunately for you, I get to make the final decision regarding the baby seeing that it is in me, not you. But I’m not going to make it any harder for you. Can you pass me a piece of paper, a pen, and the ink pad?” You gestured to the supplies on the table in front of him. This was, after all, the very table you used to do all your assignments.

He slid them to you and you knelt at the table and started writing. You signed at the bottom and pressed your thumb onto the ink pad and then onto the paper before passing the paper back to him. “Read this and sign it or just sign it, whichever you would rather do. Don’t forget to put your thumbprint too.” You said as you stood up and walked towards the bedroom. “Switch off the lights and lock the door when you leave.” You added before closing the bedroom door. You didn’t even look at him, you couldn’t bear to. You knew you’d end up crying and begging him if you did, so you didn’t. You had to be strong now and you refused to cry.

Now, everything was clear to you. You knew what you had to do and burden and stress from the past few weeks lifted off your shoulders. The gears in your mind were set in motion again as you slipped under the covers. Sleep came easily to you tonight.

================

I tend to write longer chapters nowadays. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad things. Hmm.

Anyway, I know I mentioned a few chapters back that I'll try to keep this story under 40 chapters but now, I'm that I'm already writing chapter 33, I really don't think I can end it in the next 7 chapters without rushing and ruining the entire storyline. Would it be too draggy if this story actually goes beyond that? I'll try my best to change up my storyline depending on the feedback I get. But just a heads up, if you want me to end it quickly, Kibum's character will be the one suffering from lack of character development =/

I can't believe it ended already. It seems like a few days since I first read this fic, but in reality it has been a year. I also can't believe that I waited for your updates all through out my last year of high school. I've been a ghost reader then a nice one who leaves flattering comments then a ghost reader again. Do you still remember me? Haha. It's okay if you don't, considering the many other not-so-silent readers/subscribers you have. Anyway, I don't have much to say about the final chapter, other than it's still the same ol' awesome writing style, so I want to take this opportunity to thank you. :) for being a selfless author and not abandoning this lovely fic. Now I'm not gonna ask you for a sequel, because I don't to sound so whiny and stuff, and also I think equels ruin a piece of work. :) that's all.

bittersweet but i like open ending n this is sort of open-ending for me. i like seeing endings with so many possibilities laid ahead. n i'm glad she went ahead to finish her studies.
anyway, haven't gotten much time to comment eversince the chaps got really long...xD...but but...love it of course...longer chaps=more great stuffs to read...just...lost on how n where to start commenting...xD
aww, and a bit bittersweet for Junhyung too...well at least he got to spend some time n be a father to Minhyuk even with limitations and all...lucky kid to have so many idols fanboying him...lol.
nothing to say on cupcake...since it'd be just repetition of my old comments on him so yeah...xD
Congrats for completing the fic^^ and thanks for the awesome journey!
