You ruffled your hair in slight frustration. It had been only 3 hours since you left SHINee and exactly 2 hours and 24 minutes since you received Kibum’s text informing you of Taemin’s deed. Just a few minutes before that, you had received and ignored a text from an unknown number and now you knew just who the mystery sender was. All Junhyung had sent you was “Guess who?” which was actually quite characteristic of him. You had panicked for a few seconds after reading Kibum’s text but realized soon after that you could (and would) simply ignore all of his texts and there was nothing he could do about it. You smiled a little at your brilliant decision as you typed a quick reply to Kibum to reassure him.

But you really had not expected this to happen……

“40 unread messages”

You glared at the lighted screen of your treacherous phone that had been vibrating almost non-stop in your pocket for the past 3 hours. It was vibrating the entire time you were with your mom and then all the way back home and it was really getting on your nerves. Junhyung was seriously persistent when he wanted to be. Just then, your phone vibrated again, breaking you out of your thoughts.

You glanced down at the screen of your phone and saw that another text had come in. It was now “41 unread messages”. You sighed and jabbed at the buttons to go to the inbox. You scrolled through the messages until a name caught your eye and you quickly opened it.

Call me when you can alright?

You couldn’t help the knowing smile that spread across your face after reading the message. You had a feeling that he would still worry about you despite your attempt to reassure him in your previous reply. You took a quick glance at the time stamp and saw that you had received it 43 minutes ago. It wasn’t too long ago but you had to wonder if it was still alright for you to call and there was only one way to find out.

You pressed the call button and brought the phone to your ear. You heard the call connect and the ringing tone but as you half-expected, Kibum did not answer the call. He was probably still filming so you decided to wait for him to call you back instead and went to sit with Minhyuk who was currently watching the dvd of his favourite cartoon.

You were just tucking Minhyuk into bed when your handphone started to ring. You reached over to the bedside table for your handphone and answered it, without even checking the caller ID but expecting it to be Kibum.

“Hey.” You said rather fondly.

“Hello~” A voice, different from the one you had been expecting, greeted back.

You were stunned into silence for a split second before you pulled the phone away from your ear to check who the caller was. It was from an unknown number but one that was very familiar to you by now, especially after getting over 40 messages from that very number.

You breathed out a soft sigh and brought the phone back up to your ear. “Did you really have to call me this late at night?”

“Were you expecting a call from someone else?” He conveniently answered back with a question of his own.

“I really don’t have the energy for this. If you don’t have anything important to say, then I’m hanging up.” You said in a serious voice.

“No, don’t!” He immediately said. “I was just saying since you sounded as if you were expecting someone else. Anyway, I just called to say good night. So yeah, good night.”

You raised one of your eyebrows even though he couldn’t see you. “Ok… good night to you too. I have to tuck Minhyuk into bed now so I have to go. Bye!” You said awkwardly before quickly ending the call. You grimaced slightly before turning your attention back to Minhyuk who was still wide awake and looking curiously at you.

You leaned down and placed a light kiss on his forehead pulling up the blanket to cover him. “You should sleep. Good night, Minnie.” You said softly while running your fingers through his hair.

“I can’t sleep, umma.”

“Do you want to listen to the CD?” You asked.

“Appa’s?”

“Yes, that one.” You nodded but before you could get an answer from Minhyuk, your handphone started to ring again. This time, you made sure you checked the caller ID first before answering the call.

“Hey~” You greeted when you saw that it was indeed Kibum who was calling. “Are you done with filming?”

“Hey yourself~” He greeted back. He tried to sound cheerful but you could hear the strain in his voice. “And nope, not yet. We’re just having a break now.”

“You must be tired. I’m sorry I can’t do much for you.”

“Don’t say that. Just hearing your voice gives me strength. Are you in the middle of doing something?”

“No no. I was just tucking Minhyukkie into bed but he was just saying that he can’t sleep.”

“Hmm, ok. Let me talk to him for a bit.”

“Ok.” You consented and pressed the phone gently to Minhyuk’s ear.

Minhyuk was sound asleep a few minutes after he said “Deh, appa!” into the phone. You pulled the phone back to your ear and heard Kibum singing a lullaby in a really gentle voice. You smiled. “Hey~ he fell asleep already.” You softly informed Kibum as you carefully stood up from the bed and left the bedroom.

“Thanks. You’re always the best at making him sleep when it’s bedtime.”

“You don’t have to thank me for that. I’m still his dad after all. Gosh, I just wish that we were still living together so I could see the both of you every single day.”

You blushed. “You wanted me to call? Did something happen?” You quickly changed the topic.

“Oh right, I just wanted to check on you. Is everything alright? Has Junhyung hyung texted you?”

“Umm.. nope. Everything is fine. Don’t worry.” You were quick to dismiss.

There was a short period of silence before he spoke again. “Why is it that recently, I have this feeling that there’s something important that you’re not telling me something? You’re hiding something from me aren’t you?” You could hear the suspicion in his voice.

“Nope!” You tried to sound like you didn’t know what he was talking about but instead ended up answering a little bit too quickly.

“Are you sure?” A warning tone in his voice.

“Y-yeah.” You bit your tongue as you mentally cursed your voice for faltering and prayed that Kibum hadn’t caught on.

“Pumpkin….” He said, his voice dangerously low.

“I’m not hiding anything! I swear! Haven’t I always told you everything you wanted to know?” You insisted, hoping that he’d just drop the matter.

“Well, yeah…” This time, he sounded a little convinced and you did a tiny fist pump, thinking that you had managed to deceive him. Then he started to think out loud, “As far as I know, you’ve always told me everything… except for your sudden return back but I guess that’s understandable since it was an urgent situation and then, the only other thing is when you refused to tell me the identity of….” He let his sentence trail off all of a sudden.

You didn’t know why but you could literally feel the tension in your bones as the anticipation built while you waited for Kibum to complete his sentence. But it never came. You didn’t know what was going on on the other end of the line but you had a bad feeling about where the conversation was leading to.

“OH. MY. GOD.” He suddenly said instead.

“What? What happened?!” You asked worriedly.

“It’s him, isn’t he?” He simply answered.

“Who? What? Huh?” You could only give dumb monosyllable answers as you didn’t have a clue what he was talking about.

“Junhyung…” He cut himself off again, as if he was still unsure on whether or not to ask his question.

“He’s Minhyuk’s biological father, isn’t he?”

Hey my lovelies!!!! I'm back!!! And I missed everyone!!!

I've had the most interesting trip ever to Seoul!! SO many interesting/strange/creepy encounters but they all make my trip so wonderfully exciting!!!! :))

I've been back for a couple of days now and I must say that unpacking is really the WORST part of any trip. Haha. 

Anyhow, as all of you know, I was really sick like 2 weeks before my trip and was still sick when I left. I ended up with his horrible cough that lasted throughout my trip but I'm all better now! Somehow, the cough just miraculously went away the day after I landed back home! So strange but I'm not complaining!
