Letting You Go

The next day, you were feeling incredibly stuffed up at home and decided to go out for some fresh air. You decided to talk a slow walk to the library since you had a few books to return. You had thought that Kibum would insist on accompanying you but he chose to stay at home, only reminding you to be careful before you left.

You took your time and enjoyed the fresh air, loving even the slight bite of the chilly wind against your cheeks. Winter was slowly creeping in and just like that, the year was almost over. To say that many things had happened to you in this one year would be a severe understatement. Your life had been completely overturned and you had to move to the other side of the world to pick up the pieces and do your best to live your life. Along the way, you had gotten to know amazingly wonderful people who just made everything so much better for you.

You were on your way back home when you wondered if you should stop by the supermarket and get a tub of ice-cream for Kibum. Even though he had already calmed down from yesterday’s episode, you thought that he deserved a little treat to take his mind off his busy daily routine so you popped by the store to get his favourite brand of ice-cream before heading back to the apartment.

You were gone for only about an hour but when you opened the front door, you were greeted by boxes of all sizes that were stacked everywhere in the living room. “Kibummie?” You called out while trying to navigate your way through the maze of boxes.

“Cupcake?” You called out again, louder this time, when you didn’t get a response.

“Your room!” You heard him shout a reply.

You headed to the kitchen is placed the ice-cream in the freezer first before heading to you room, only to find him moving things around.

“Er.. what are you doing?” You asked.

“I’m moving things around.” He answered.

You raised an eyebrow. “Yes, I can see that. But... why?”

“I’m trying to make more space.” He puffed out while pushing your desk.

“Oh.. ok. Any particular reason as to why you have to make more space in my room?”

“Yeah, I’ll show you later.” He replied.

“Do you need my help?” You offered.

He stopped what he was doing. “No no. Just stay in the living room until I’m done ok? Watch some television or read a book. I’ll try not to be too long.”

You didn’t really know what he was doing but you didn’t want to make things difficult so you just went to the living room and switched on the television. After a few more minutes of hearing furniture being dragged across the floor of your room, Kibum came out of your room and started to carry a few of the boxes into your room, effectively disappearing into your room again. You tried not to look at Kibum, keeping your eyes fixed on the television screen but you had no idea what you were watching. Your mind kept drifting back to what Kibum was doing.

After about an hour of mental struggle, curiousity finally got the better of you and you tip-toed quietly to your room. Hiding behind the frame of the door, you peeked in and saw Kibum assembling a cream-coloured baby cot. He had the instruction manual in one hand and used the other to wipe the sweat off his brow. You took out your handphone and quickly snapped a few pictures of him hard at work.

“Stalker.” He said without even looking you.

“Sorry! I’m gone!” You squeaked before shuffling off.

You managed to last another 30 minutes staring at the television before you couldn’t just sit around and wait anymore. You went to the fridge and scooped out some of the ice-cream into a bowl before going to your room.

“Do you want to take a break? I bought ice-cream.” You asked.

Kibum looked up at you and just opened his mouth. You were a little confused at first but quickly understood what he wanted. You slowly sat down on the floor beside him and fed him the ice-cream, one spoonful at a time. When you noticed him wiping his sweat away with the hand of his hand again, you got up with some effort and came back with a moist towel to dab the sweat off his forehead.

“Is there really nothing that I can help with?” You asked when you had finished sharing the bowl of ice-cream with him.

He let out a short laugh. “You just can’t sit still, can you?” He said, shaking his head before exiting the room.

He came back with a few of the smaller and more colourful boxes. “Here you can help with these then.” He said while placing the boxes on the floor beside you.

You raised your eyebrows, wondering what were in the boxes but you decided to see for yourself instead of asking. You opened the boxes and found that there were all types of baby clothes in them, from sweaters, shirts, rompers, and pants down to hats, bibs, mittens and socks. The boxes had practically everything. You continued opening the boxes and when you came to the last one, you found many pairs of baby shoes in it. You stared at Kibum, not knowing what to say, the box of shoes still in your lap. He had been watching you open the boxes and just reached out and ruffled your hair.

“You should be able to organize those in your wardrobe without my help right?” He asked.

“Of course!” You stood up as quickly as you could manage and started to fold the clothes and stack them properly in the closet. You left the shoes in the box because you didn’t think that you’d need them anytime soon.

You were just about to turn around when you felt a warm presence behind you and hands covered your eyes. “Turn around slowly. Careful.” You heard Kibum’s voice right beside your ear. He was so close that you could feel his breath tickle your neck.

“Ta-da!” He uncovered your eyes when you had turned around fully to reveal a properly assembled cream-coloured cot with a really colourful mobile hanging over it. There was a small pillow and bolster in the cot and there was also the softest-looking blue-coloured dog plushie sitting in the corner.

“All this was actually meant to be a surprise for you but I just couldn’t find a way to keep you out the house for long enough so I gave up on that idea. Do you like them? They are your early birthday gifts.” His voice sounded quite hesitant.

Instead of answering, you spun around and gave him a tight hug. “Thank you, cupcake! It’s perfect.”

“You’re welcome, pumpkin.” He said, your hair before pressing a kiss into your hair.

I can't believe it ended already. It seems like a few days since I first read this fic, but in reality it has been a year. I also can't believe that I waited for your updates all through out my last year of high school. I've been a ghost reader then a nice one who leaves flattering comments then a ghost reader again. Do you still remember me? Haha. It's okay if you don't, considering the many other not-so-silent readers/subscribers you have. Anyway, I don't have much to say about the final chapter, other than it's still the same ol' awesome writing style, so I want to take this opportunity to thank you. :) for being a selfless author and not abandoning this lovely fic. Now I'm not gonna ask you for a sequel, because I don't to sound so whiny and stuff, and also I think equels ruin a piece of work. :) that's all.
