“Wufan, is that really you?” my mom asked him, with her eyes bulged out of her sockets.

He nodded before bowing. “Hello, Ms. Liu. How have you been?”

My mother put her hands on Kris’s arms and examined Kris.

“I can't believe it's really you. You are so tall now, Wufan!" she paused. "Where have you been for the last few years? I haven’t seen you ever since the news of your mother’s death.” My mother mentioned.

I nudged my mom.

“Oh, I’m so sorry I even mentioned it. Why don’t you come in, Wufan?” My mom signaled him to enter our apartment.

“It’s late mom, we shouldn’t bother Kris.” I told my mom.

My mom formed a straight line with her lips. “Oh, are we?”

Kris shook his head. “No, not at all. I would love to come in and have a chat, if it’s okay with you.”

“Of course it is! Come in, come in!” My mom welcomed Kris into our apartment.

“I know that our apartment is small compared to our old house. Sorry about that. Did you have dinner yet, Wufan?”

“No, I haven’t.” Kris told my mom.

I raised my eyebrow. Did he not remember the instant noodles we just eaten?

“That’s great! I’ll make you something. Sit down on the couch while Amber and I make you something to eat. I’ll turn on the TV for you so you won’t be bored.”

Kris smiled at my mother. “Thank you, Ms. Liu.”

When my mom disappeared into the kitchen, I spoke to Kris. “Why did you lie to my mom?”

Kris looked at me. “I haven’t ate your mom’s cooking in years.”

“So?”

“I miss her cooking- but I miss eating with you and your mom more.” He solidly stated.

No words was able to come out of my mouth. Was that how he had really been feeling?

“Amber, come help me!” my mom called.

“Coming mom!”

“So how was your trip in Japan?” I asked Chanyeol. Chanyeol has just came back from his vacation yesterday.

Since quitting my job at the maid café, I had more free time and was able to take the day off today. Chanyeol and I were at the mall, doing our daily shopping routine.

“It was awesome! Especially the food. There truly isn’t a better place for Japanese food than Japan. And I got a bunch of merchandise too!”

“I’m jealous.” I joked.

Chanyeol hugged me by the neck. “Awww, I wish I could’ve bring you along with me.”

“Psh, whatever.”

Our little interaction was interrupted when my phone rang. Luna was calling me.

I immediately picked up the phone. “Hello?”

“Amber, where are you?” Luna asked in worry. Right, I forgot to tell her.

“Luna… I quit my job at the cafe.”

“WHAT? WHY?”

“The job wasn’t really for me.” I lied.

“B ut this is so sudden. You didn’t even tell me before that you didn’t like working here..” Luna sounded like she was hurt.

I felt a little bit guilty. “I’m sorry Luna.”

“Ani, don’t feel sorry.”

Chanyeol nudged me.

“What?” I asked quietly, not wanting Luna to hear me.

“Can you- um- invite Luna to hang with us?” Chanyeol said shyly.

I furrowed my eyebrows. “But you don’t even know her?”

“Actually…. We have met once-“

“Hello???” Luna said after waiting for Amber to respond.

“Luna, when are you done with your shift?” I asked her.

“I’m going to be done in an hour. Why?”

“Do you want to hang out with me and my friend Chanyeol?”

“Oh, of course!”

“Okay cool. I’ll text you where we meet. I’m going to hang up now. Bye Luna!”

“See you later~” Luna said before she hanged up on me.

“So yeolie, any specific reason why you want to see my friend Luna? You desperate for a girlfriend?” I wiggled my eyebrows.

“It's not what you think. Why wouldn’t I want to get to know your only friend that’s a girl? She must be interesting.” Chanyeol replied.
