Birthday Surprise Part 2

If Only You Knew

Yoseob’s POV

“Haha, really guys?  Here?"  I chuckled in disbelief.

I stared up at the local amusement park that stretched in front of me.  I haven’t been here since I was 9 years old, when I last came with the rest of BEAST.

“It’ll just be like when we were little.”  Dongwoon’s bright smile shined.

“Haha, in the middle of winter?  Guys, really?”  I couldn’t help but chuckle at the idea of being in an amusement park in January.

“Oh please, amusements parks are timeless.  Unless you’re scared.”  Aerin teased as she nudged my arm lightly.

“We’ll see who’s scared.”  I shot her back a wink, and started running towards The Twin Thunder.

We strapped into our seats.  Aerin sat next to me in the front, grinning quietly to herself.

“You okay?”  I asked her at her weird expression.

“Just super excited!  I haven’t been here since I was young too.”  She replied when the cars started to move on the track.

Aerin’s POV

“Gwaenchana?”  I asked Dongwoon when we walked out of the rollercoaster.

“Y-y-yeh.  J-j-just a little un-unsteady.”  Dongwoon walked beside me.  His legs seemed to be trembling.

“Are you sure?  You don’t look all that good.”  I was kind of worried.

“I just haven’t ridden on a rollercoaster for a really long time, that’s all.  Don’t worry, I’ll be fine.  But I’m going to sit out for the next ride.  You guys go ahead.”  Dongwoon found himself a bench to sit on.

“Then, let’s go ride on that!”  Yoseob pointed towards a giant octopus-looking machine.

After the others agreed, we waved goodbye to the maknae.  Screaming in excitement, the machine swung us up into the air.  For the next few hours, we went on many different rides.  I don’t think I’ve ever had this much fun in my life.  I hope Yoseob was having as much fun as me.  I smiled to myself, watching how happily the guys all seemed to be.

“Yah, can we eat lunch now?  My stomach can’t take the growling anymore!”  Yoseob whined with a puppy dog face.

I glanced at my watch, seeing that it’s 1 o’clock.  “Let’s each go buy food, and meet back here later.”

We all spread out, leaving me and Kikwang alone since we wanted to eat from the same restaurant.

“What do you want to eat?”  He asked.

“Um...”  I looked at the menu board that showed all kinds of delicious food.  “I think I’ll have kimchi rice with tofu soup, and a banana topped with chocolate ice cream?”

Kikwang glanced at the picture of the ice cream-covered banana with a dumbfounded face, and then ordered his food.

“Why were you staring at that picture?”  I asked curiously.

“The banana looks delicious.”

I giggled as we walked to a picnic table with our food.  The others were already there.

“Chocolate ice cream-covered banana?”  Yoseob eyed me with an odd look when I placed the tray down.

“What?”  I glared back.

“That is so weird.  Only you would eat it.”  He snickered when I sat across from him.

“Excuse me!  They are healthy and delicious!  Only you wouldn’t eat it.”

“Oh really?”  Yoseob reached across the table and grabbed my ice cream banana.  “Mmm, it’s pretty good.”

“YANG YOSEOB!”  I couldn’t help but shout out.

“Yah!  Be nice to the birthday boy!”  He said.  But this only made me stand up and chase him around the table like we were little kids.

“Can’t you guys be more mature?”  Doojoon shook his head with a mouthful of kimchi fried rice.

After a couple of run-arounds, Yoseob finished my banana and stuck his tongue out at me.  I was mad that I didn’t get to eat my banana, so I slammed my hand down on the wooden table.

“Ow!”  I looked at my index finger.  A splinter had pricked my skin.

“What?”  Yoseob walked around to my side of the table and picked up my hand.

“Careful!”

“Shh.  Look over there.”  He turned his head to the left.  I was curious, so I looked over too.

“OW!”  I looked at the speck of blood on my index finger that replaced the splinter.  “Why’d you do that?  Look!  I’m bleeding now!”

“Stop whining!  I got your splinter out!”  He reached inside his pants pocket for a bandage to wrap around my finger.  I winced at the little pain.

In the midst of our arguing, there was a flash.  We all turned around, and saw a young girl in her late teens walk in our direction.

“Sorry.  I didn’t mean to sneak up on you guys.  I’m practising for my photography class, and I found this moment really cute.”  The girl smiled at me and Yoseob, and held out a Polaroid picture of him carefully putting the bandage on my finger.  “Here, you guys should keep it.  You two make a cute couple!”

I blushed, stuttering to explain to her the relationship between me and Yoseob.

“Thanks!”  Yoseob took the picture and grinned happily.

“Hey that gives me an idea!”  Hyunseung exclaimed.  “Let’s use Yoseob’s birthday gift to take pictures as memories!”

Everyone agreed.  I took out the Polaroid camera that Yoseob stored temporarily in my bag.  We all grouped together and began making posing in front of the tiny camera, making funny faces and trying out different poses.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

“Where do you guys want to go next?”  I my mint-flavoured ice cream.

“We went on almost all the good rides.”  Yoseob was munching on his cotton candy.

“But we didn’t go in there!”  Kikwang suddenly stopped, pointing his index finger at a weird-looking house.

The house appeared ripped and torn.  It was covered with bats and cobwebs, and screams were echoing from inside.  It was exactly how I remembered it 10 years ago; Jaemin oppa brought me here when I was 7 years old.  He told me it was a house just like our house, but filled with lots of ice cream and candies inside.  I fell for it.

Once he led me inside, scary music was playing, along with the screams of other people.  Ghosts and goblins crept up on us, while vampires and other scary creatures popped out from behind the doors.  It was a nightmare to me.  Ever since then, I had been afraid of ghosts, and I had never returned to this haunted house.

“Aerin-ah, gwaenchana?”  Hyunseung nudged me on the arm.

I snapped back to my senses, taking in a big gulp.

“Well?  What are you guys waiting for?  Let’s go in!”  Kikwang was anxious to enter the haunted house, while me on the other hand, not really in any hurry.

I agreed to go in, after seeing that the other members seemed to want to go in too.  I couldn’t tell these guys that I was scared of a little haunted house, especially Kikwang.  He really wants to go too.  I was a little girl back then, but now that I’m older, I probably won’t be scared anymore.  Taking in a deep breath, we made our way towards the haunted house.

Yoseob’s POV

The dimmed lighting inside the creepy old house did not seem welcoming when we walked in the doors.

“Let’s split up, so we can explore the house faster.  I’ll go with Hyunseung.  Yoseob and Aerin can go together, while Doojoon, Dongwoon and Junhyung can be in the same group.  Let’s go!”  Kikwang quickly sorted out the groups and ran along with Hyunseung.

The others left, leaving Aerin and I still standing there.

“C’mon, let’s go!”  I grabbed her hand and started walking through the darkness.

We walked side by side.  She seemed a bit nervous.

“Gwaenchana?”  I asked her.

“Huh?  Oh, I’m fine.”  Her voiced quivered a bit.  “Aren’t you scared at all?”

“Nah.  I’ve been to tons of haunted houses before, and none of them were really scary.”

“Oh.”  Aerin looked around her between every few seconds.

Not long after, people in costumes began to pop out from behind walls and staircases to scare us.  I laughed, while Aerin walked closely behind me, peeking out from behind my body every step of the way.

“Are you really scared?”  I teased.

“Um...”  She began to stutter, then came out from behind and started to walk in front of me.  “No!  Wh-who would be s-scared of a l-little haunted house?”

I chuckled.  Just then, I heard whispers of my name.

“What was that?”  Aerin seemed to have heard it before I even asked.

“What was what?”  I replied innocently, not wanting to scare her more than she is now.  In truth, I was beginning to be scared too.

“You didn’t hear it?  I thought I heard someone call your name, but I guess it was just me.”

Who was that calling my name?  Yoseob, Yoseob, Yoseob.  I never thought I would be scared of my own name echoing through the dark halls.  I followed Aerin as we walked into another dim hallway with many doors.  Without warning, the door to my right opened, and then something grabbed me by the shoulder and pulled me in.

“YOSEOB!”  Aerin quickly turned around and tried to grasp onto my hand, but I slipped away too fast.  The door closed.
