Shopping

Smiling doesn't hurt, does it?

Meekun's POV

I didn't really matter what I said, Jinki managed to drag me all the way into town, to shop for clothes I could wear the same evening.

"I don't have any money with me!" I tried.

"You can borrow some from me", Jinki rejected my plea.

It wasn't until we were in a store he let go of my arm, and I shot him an angry glare. He answered my glare with a smile, no, a smirk, and started looking after something for me to wear.

"But I'm serious, I don't want to borrow money", I said, as I walked just behind him.

"Then I can give it to you", he said.

That made me grab his arm and turn him around. I stared into his eyes, just so he would understand the seriousness.

"No. I will not accept any kind of gifts from you", I said slowly.

Jinki looked at me for a while, before he released his own arm from my grip, without looking away from me.

"Okay. I guess I can see you point. Then we can do like this. I can buy a dress or something here, and you can borrow that for tonight, and then I can have it back", he said.

I hesitated.

"Fine. But you owe me", I said, and Jinki gave out a sound close to a squeak.

I gave him a weird look, and then watched him running around in the store, looking for something fitting. In the end, he chose a blue, simple dress. I didn't want to admit it, but I did like it. The color was the same that the sky had on a clear day. Even if I thought I had hid my liking for the dress, Jinki saw it, and smiled big at me. I ignored him and waited for him to pay for it. When it all was done, he forced me to a café nearby. and ordered for me, even if I protested.

"Do you not understand the word 'no'?" I asked him when the waitress came with two coffees and two cheesecakes.

"Is that a trick question?" he asked me, and grinned.

I rolled my eyes and looked down at the black coffee infront of me. I understood exactly what it looked like for people walking by. Two teenagers out on a date. I bit my lip, and looked up at Jinki, who were completely into the cheesecake.

"Why are you always so happy?" I asked after a moment in hesitation.

Jinki looked up at me, and slowly put down his spoon. He looked at me, and then gazed out the window, as if he had to think about it. I watched him while he thought, and once again that forbidden thought popped up in my head. He looked good. And as the sun shone on him, his hair revealed some brown highlights. I jumped in my seat when he suddenly looked at me.

"I could be sad because of all the bad things in life, but I choose to be happy because of all the good things instead", he said.

I just looked at him. That boy. He was really weird. He was really... special. He smiled a bit, and before I could stop it, I smiled back at him.

"So, because I answered your question, you have to answer mine. Why didn't you like me?"

My smile vanished in an instant. Jinki cocked his head a little to the side, and watched me. I swallowed and took a deep breath.

"Because you reminded me of my dad", I answered quietly.

Jinki pulled his eyebrows together, and looked at me in confusion.

"Your dad?" he asked.

He didn't know? My own eyebrows almost disappeard under my hair as I realised that he didn't know a single thing about my history.

"You don't know? I-I mean, haven't anyone of you friends told you?" I stuttered.

"Told me what?"

"That my dad is in prison!" I said and threw my arms out.

Jinkis eyes grew wide and his mouth formed a perfect 'O'. He hadn't known. I leaned my forehead against my hand and sighed heavily.

"Wh-what? Why-why is he in jail?" Jinki stuttered in shock.

I looked up at him, and forced a grim smile on my face.

"It's a long story", I answered him, and took a bit of my cheesecake.

It took a while for him to recover from the news, but when he did, it was if nothing had changed. I had to ask myself what I'd done to deserve his kindness. The answer was nothing. I hadn't done a single thing that would make him be so nice to me, and still he was.

Chapter 27: This was so nice and comforting to read. This was too real for me tbh. I can relate to the main character so much. All I'm missing is a Jinki lol.

Nice story ^^

Chapter 27: I think that the ending was very good, i like the fact that it was kind of a summarisation of the following years of her life and that her and Jinki were happy together. The last paragraph shows how Meekun matured as she got older and i am very glad that this story had a happy ending as i cant stand it when things don't work out. I really loved this story a lot and i intend to subscribe to your other work! :3
