‘No,’  You thought, trying to stop your mind from processing Kris’ words.  “No, no,” You shake your head, completely denying everything.  It’s dawning on you.  What was happening, and what is happening, everything is dawning on you.  It was too fast.  You roughly brush Kris’ grip away from your wrist and cover your ears, stepping back, anything, just to get away from his words.

From the truth.

“Agasshi—“ You hear Chen’s voice, but his words, too, you cut off.

“No!” You yell, swiping your hand forward and around, making an arc so that anybody who comes close stays away.  You just keep stepping back, and you trip over your own foot, not meeting the hard of the floor because Chen’s familiar arms stop you from experiencing so.

“Agasshi, get a grip of yourself!” He yells, straightening you up and firmly holding your hands away from your ears. 

Chen never yells at you. 

You direct your face towards the source of his voice.  Your eyes somehow sting as you feel those hot drops of liquid pool together and stream down your cheeks.

You’re crying as the truth finally, completely, dawns on you.
