Letting You Go
Sehun
I can't sit still in the plane thinking of Jongin. It never crossed my mind that this will happen to the people I care about. Thank god he's still alive. I can't lose my best friend. Not in this way.
The last time I experienced a scare like this was the time Hyebin was admitted. It was all Yeonhee's fault. I can still remember the feeling watching Hyebin had seizures right before my eyes. If she didn't throw away my phone into the pool, I would know Hyebin was having a very high fever, I would come and stay with her the whole time. Thinking about that incident makes my heart boil. I know Hyebin forgives her, but I can't. And I can't understand why Hyebin always says it was not Yeonhee's fault. She once said that I don't know the whole story. I don't understand what she meant by that and I don't want to understand. All I know it was Yeonhee's fault.
After a long dreadful journey from Japan to Korea, that I feel like a thousand years, I finally arrive in Seoul. I take a cab straight away to Seoul Medical Centre.
I open the door of his suite without knocking. "Yah! Kim Jongin!"
"Welcome back dude! Wow you come here straight from the airport" Jongin said, looking at me dragging my luggage along with me.
"You nearly gave me a heart attack" I said.
"Thank god I'm still alive" Jongin replied.
I turn to Seulgi and greeted her. "Hi Seulgi. It's been a while. How's Boston?"
"Boston has always been great to me" she answered with a light chuckle.
"You flew here too after you know his accident?" I asked Seulgi.
"No. I called him as soon as my plane landed but a lady answered his phone instead. I thought he's cheating on me. Can you imagine how I felt that time knowing he's involved in an accident? Thank god that lady stayed with him until I arrived"
"A lady?" I automatically asked because I got curious.
"Yes. A nice lady who happened to be there as well at the accident scene" Jongin replied.
"She's injured too you know" Seulgi added.
"Well is she okay? Where is she now?" I asked them as I'm quite concern about this lady. An injured person looks after another injured person, that's quite noble.
"She left after Seulgi arrived" Jongin said.
"That's weird. How can a stranger be so nice". I can feel there's something weird about this lady.
"Maybe she's not a stranger after all" Jongin said out of a sudden.
"She's just a lady who wants to be kept a mystery" Seulgi said straight after.
Why are they acting weird? "Hey, am I missing something here?" I asked.
"No" they both answered at the same time. They are definitely acting weird.
"Anyway, how's Japan?" Jongin asked.
"Lovely. Exciting as always"
"When I'm out of the hospital soon, let's have a dinner together. To celebrate this pretty lady here" Jongin said pointing to Seulgi next to him.
"What are we celebrating?" I asked
"I'm coming back for good! Finally" Seulgi said while clasping her hand excitedly.
"That's good news. You've applied anywhere yet?"
"No, not yet. Wanna spend a few months with my parents then I'll look for any opening"
"That won't be a problem. Any hospital is going to be lucky to have you". It's true, Seulgi is among the top medical student in her batch. Not to mention, it's Harvard we are talking about. Not some unrecognized medical school.
"So, about that dinner, why not we have a double date. Four of us" she said.
"Four of us?" I asked. Why four? Is she expecting me to invite Hyebin like good old days?
"Yes. Me and Jongin, you and your wife. I don't get the chance to know her anyway" Seulgi said. Owh so she meant Yeonhee. You don't need to know her Seulgi.
"I don't think that's a good idea" I answered trying to bury that nonsense idea.
"Come on. I need some girl company"
I'm stuck whether to decline or agree. So I say "I'll think about it".
Seulgi maybe knows a bit about Yeonhee. Jongin probably told her a bit about my relationship with her. I don't mind to be honest if she knew the truth, it's better so I don't have to pretend when I'm around them.
I stay at the hospital for a while. We talk and joke, the three of us. I don't even realize I have been here for almost two hours. It's really true that time flies so fast when you are having a good time.
I excuse myself when the nurses come to check on Jongin. He needs proper rest anyway.
I hail on a cab to get back home. I really miss my bed, my car, my home, I miss everything here. Then I ask myself 'Do I miss Yeonhee too?'.
Hmmmm. No, I don't miss her, not at all.
I literally drag my fingers to punch in the code. I remember the last word I said to Yeonhee before I left. I admit it, it was kind of mean but I'm not sorry for that.
I step my foot inside our condo hoping I won't bump into her. Hopefully, she's in her room.
But no, not my luck. I heard the sound of the microwave running. She's surely in the kitchen right now reheating her meal.
