Admit It
HeartbeatByul arrived home from work, utterly exhausted, she had an emergency call as she was leaving the building. She checked the time on her watch as she entered through the door. 9:15 PM
"Welcome back" Yongsun smiled, she was sitting on the couch. A blanket wrapped around her. "She looks..warm"
“Mmm...I’m back” Byul tossed her bag on the small table by the door, hanging her jacket up. She took a seat next on the far end of the couch, sighing as she covered her eyes from the light from above.
“Did you eat yet? I can go warm something up if you want?” Yongsun go up, feeling a slight tug on the blanket. “Byul?”
“Come here” Byul motioned for Yongsun to sit next to her. Yongsun sat down again, unsure of what the younger woman wanted.
“You’re warm...” Byul said, tilting her head into Yongsun’s neck.
“Byul? Are you ok?” Yongsun tried to move around to check but was stopped by Byul’s gentle touch.
“Let’s stay like this for awhile...I’m tired” Byul nuzzled herself deeper into Yongsun’s neck, inhaling the sweet lavender scent that made her relax. Byul unconsciously wrapped an arm over Yongsun’s stomach, holding the woman in an embrace.
Yongsun sat there, puzzled as to what could be going on. She studied the face that now seemed so lifeless. The already dark eye bags seemed ever darker, her breathing faint. It seemed like the doctor was stressed. Yongsun listened to the quiet breathing, with each of Byul’s breaths, she could hear her own heart beating faster and faster. Images of the kiss they shared flashed through her head. Yongsun took a look at the light pink lips that were only inches away from her own. Her face turning red, Yongsun leaned down slowly, lost in her own thoughts. Her hand reached up, about to cup the sleeping woman’s face.
“Yah, what are you doing?” Byul opened her eyes, lifting her head from Yongsun’s shoulder. Yongsun retracted her hand, embarrassed by what she was about to do.
“I...was trying to….um..get you back for kissing me?” Yongsun stuttered out. Byul smirked, amused at the answer.
“By kissing me?”
“No! I was..um..trying to strangle you” Yongsun made a weird gesture with her hands.
“Huh...not sure how you would’ve done it like that” Byul chuckled, pulling Yongsun in closer. “Maybe..that kiss wasn’t such a bad thing after all.. Things are getting interesting...”
“Yah, what’s with you? You’re very clingy all of a sudden. Are you perhaps finally falling for me?” Yongsun teased. Her heart beating faster as each second passed by, full of anticipation.
“As if, you’re just fun to tease” Byul answered, she pulled Yongsun into a back hug. She leaned toward her ear, whispering words she knew would fluster the other. “And.. I’m feeling a little hungry...but maybe for something else” Byul let the last word pop in Yongsun's ear.
“Yah! You’re such a ert!” Yongsun scrambled out of Byul’s lap, grabbing the book on the table to use it to keep distance between the two. Byul just laughed, getting up.
“I’m joking, calm down, unnie” Byul grabbed the book, placing it back down on the table. “Will you warm something up for me? I'm actually starving. I’m going to shower now”
Before Yongsun could respond, Byul had retreated back to her room.
“Ahh! How can someone be such a flirt!” Yongsun thought, going into the kitchen to warm up the leftover soup she had made for lunch. She threw the soup into a pot, turning the stove on. She heard a chime coming from a phone in the living room.
Yongsun searched around as the chime went off again, she must have left her phone out there. After digging around she pulled out the familiar black case. Byul’s phone had slipped between the couch’s folds. “She must’ve dropped it when she sat down. I’ll leave it at the counter”
As Yongsun set it on the kitchen counter, the screen lit up, an unfamiliar name on the screen.

Byulyi, are you free tonight?
Let’s meet at my place
I miss you
Yongsun couldn’t help but feel a pang in her heart. She couldn’t deny that she was already falling for the doctor. Her strong attraction to the woman was making her more and more bold each day. “Of course she’s seeing other people….it’s not like we’re together…”
She turned the phone over, going back to check on the food.
Byul came out with a towel covering her slightly wet silver hair. The locks seemed to be even more shiny as the water made them glisten in the light. Byul took a seat in front of the kitchen counter as Yongsun gave her the bowl of warm soup.
“Thank you” Byul smiled, chowing down quickly. Yongsun watched as the younger woman ate as if someone was going to steal her food.
“Slow down, you of all people know you’ll get indigestion from eating like that”
“Can’t help it, it’s so good” Byul grinned. “Just want I needed after a long day”
“Well I’m glad you enjoy my cooking” Yongsun replied, happy that the doctor liked what she had made. Byul seemed to be more open and clingy since they kissed, a change Yongsun thought was good. A single day, a single moment, a single second had changed their entire living dynamic. She couldn’t help but feel happy, the happiest she
