I’ve decided to address this issue on a much larger stage than I initially wanted to. Some of you may think I’m overreacting or just being dramatic but I think this is an issue that needs to be brought up.
A few days ago, a few readers sent me DMs regarding a w@ttpad account that was allegedly plagiarizing my work. Naturally, I decided to check out the account and found that they had quite literally taken one of my stories and re-wrote it word for word with name changes. I did make an account and posted on their page about my discontent with what they had done and asked for them to take it down. Many other authors from various sites had also done the same as I saw many recent comments asking them to remove the stories they had stolen.
A day or two went by before the account had been “deactivated”. No apology, no statement, nothing. I think that’s what really tipped me over the edge to write this.
Now, I’m a fairly lax person. I just like to write and share my stories on the internet. It’s a place where I can really let go and be myself. I’m going to be honest and say that it hurt. I’ve said this several times in private DMs and on my instagram but I put a lot of my personal feelings and experiences into my work and to have someone just take it and warp it into some other half-assed story really made me upset.
