Oh My Girl - Closer

“RUN RUN RUN!”

Jimin almost toppled over his feet and was dragged along by Taehyung’s grip on his collar while Jungkook screamed like a maniac. They rushed down the hallways like crazy, passing students giving them funny looks while Jungkook gestured with wide hand movements.

“Out of the way, out of the ing way!”

“Stop!” there were even louder screams behind them, and a couple of first years shrieked when they noticed Mr. Filch following them with rapid speed, “Stop, you filthy little –“

“Jungkook, Taehyung,” Jimin called from the front and pointed at a tapestry on their left with wide eyes, “In there, quick –“

“Are you crazy –“ Jungkook started but was soon shoved right at the tapestry.

He closed his eyes, waiting to crash right into the wall but instead stumbled right through the tapestry, Taehyung and Jimin shoving and stumbling their way inside right behind him. There was a pause, while the three of them lay all huddled over each other on the floor, and they heard Mr. Filch running right past the tapestry.

“Where did they go, where did they go – oh, I’ll find them, and they will cry for forgiveness, I’ll prepare the chains for them and –“

Jungkook exhaled in relief when the voice quieted down, and turned to look at the rest.

“Blimey, for a second I thought he’ll catch us,” he declared and gave Jimin an impressed look, “That was really a brilliant idea, I never knew there’s a hidden corridor around here.”

“Thank you?” Jimin said and furrowed his brows, slowly sitting up, “Sorry Tae, I didn’t mean to squash you.”

Taehyung only groaned and waved his hand.

“Here,” Jungkook bit his lower lip and reached out to curl a hand around Taehyung’s wrist, “Come, I’ll help you –“

Taehyung looked up at him and then, a warm smile spreading over his lips. “Thank you.”

Jungkook felt his insides boiling and needed a few moments to calm down, while Jimin patted the dust off his robes.

“Everything went according the plan,” he declared in a way more serious voice than usual, “Yoongi should have free access to Mr. Filch’s office now.”

Jungkook sat down next to him, fingers still curled around Taehyung’s wrist since he did not plan to let go anytime soon. He tilted his head, and gave Jimin a curious glance from the side.

“Has Yoongi actually ever told you why he needs access to Mr. Filch’s office though?” he asked slowly and placed Taehyung’s hand on his lap.

“No,” Jimin whispered and bit his lip, “But – I fear, he’s involved in something dangerous …”

Taehyung looked up at his best friend and gave him a comforting smile. “He’s still Slytherin’s prefect, isn’t he? I don’t think you have to worry much about him.”

“Yeah, but guys,” Jungkook spoke up again, “Isn’t this the point – Yoongi is a prefect, still he risks so much to break into Mr. Filch’s office. If he gets caught, he’ll be in serious trouble. I don’t understand – why is he doing this then. And can we really leave him on his own?”

Jimin’s eyes widened, and he stared at the Gryffindor in surprise. “You mean …?”

“I’m not saying we should help him,” Jungkook said quickly, “Just maybe … follow him, and see what he’s about to do. Don’t you think it would be at least interesting?”

“But – I’m not sure, wouldn’t Yoongi be mad?” Jimin said and puffed his cheeks.

Jungkook rolled his eyes, and then exchanged a glance with Taehyung, who stared right back at him. Jungkook was distracted for a few seconds, because he was so close, but then shook his head. Not the right moment, definitely not.

“What do you think?” he asked and casually slipped his fingers through the gaps of Taehyung’s, holding his hand tightly.

Taehyung shrugged. “Why not? I don’t have anything to do anyway, since dinner is over and everything.”

“But Tae –“ Jimin protested again.

“Look Jimin,” Taehyung said and tilted his head, “Aren’t you worried about Yoongi? We’ll make sure he’s not in danger, don’t we?”

Jimin paused for a second, mouth hanging open, before he narrowed his eyes and nodded several times.

“Yes, yes you’re right, protect Yoongi, of course,” he declared and jumped up, “Let’s do this!”

Jungkook chuckled, and then pulled Taehyung’s hand to help him up.

“Hey, let’s talk after this, okay?” he said and stared at the Ravenclaw expectantly.

Taehyung smiled and nodded. “Sure, why not.”

Yeah, why not. Jungkook felt euphoric all over again, so euphoric he leaned in and pressed a quick kiss on Taehyung’s cheek. Then, he quickly dragged the other behind him, not daring to check for his expression.

If he did though, he would have seen the bright smile on Taehyung’s face.

“Here it is!” Hoseok exclaimed and gestured all of them to come closer, “Look – see this small snake here? This is it, I’m sure!”

“Good work,” Seokjin nodded and strut over.

He crouched down next to the sink, running his fingers slowly over the dark snake engraved on the cool marble. It was small, easy to miss, and still so very captivating once you look at it. There was something that made a shiver run down Seokjin’s spine.

“Xero,” he gestured over his shoulder, “Come here.”

The Hufflepuff looked up from where he was chatting quietly with Namjoon and Stephanie, and didn’t miss to give Hoseok an annoyed look before crouching down next to Seokjin.

“So, you expect me to speak with this?” Xero said slowly and furrowed his brows.

“You can’t do it?” Seokjin asked and raised an eyebrow.

“Well, the only time I ever spoke to snakes was with actual living ones,” Xero mumbled and bit his lips, “I’ll try, but I can’t promise a thing.”

“I’m sure you can do it!” Hoseok said brightly and rested a hand on his shoulder.

Xero shot him a glare and the prefect quickly removed his hand.

“What?” Hoseok laughed awkwardly and rubbed his nape.

“Hoseok, shut up will you?” Seokjin muttered and nodded, “Give it a try, Xero.”

Namjoon and Stephanie went closer too, Namjoon crouching down on Xero’s other side.

“If you have problems imagining this is a real snake, try turning your head a little, or blink rapidly,” Namjoon suggested, “It’ll make it look livelier.”

Xero nodded slowly and then narrowed his eyes, staring right at the black snake engraved in the marble. It wasn’t hard to imagine it being an actual snake. Xero took a deep breath, effectively ignored Hoseok’s presence, and opened his mouth.

Open.”

“What is he doing,” Jungkook furrowed his brows and rose on his tiptoes, “Move a little Jimin, I can’t see .”

“Well, I’m sorry but this pillar is pretty small,” Jimin pressed his lips together and tried to steady himself, “Don’t push!”

Taehyung furrowed his brows and clutched on the back of Jungkook’s robes. “He’s taking a key.”

“A key?” Jimin’s eyes turned huge, “But – what is he – wait a second, where is he going now?”

“Follow him, let’s go,” Jungkook hissed and grabbed Jimin’s collar and Taehyung’s hand, “Come on, come on.”

The hallways were eerily empty, all students safely up in their common rooms especially after the latest news. It made following Yoongi out of Mr. Filch’s office down the hallway even harder, but fortunately Yoongi reached his destination pretty quickly. He stopped in front of a wooden door, conflicted expression on his face.

“The floo network room, of course,” Jimin declared, “I knew it!”

“Well, why would he go in there though?” Jungkook retreated and raised his eyebrows.

“Um,” Jimin paused and tilted his head, “He wants to escape Hogwarts?”

Jungkook facepalmed and watched Yoongi slowly turning the key in its lock. The floo network room was a new addition added to Hogwarts only five years ago which can only be entered with special keys in the teachers ‘ and Mr. Filch’s possession. It was created to ensure students can travel home safely even when the train wasn’t an option. Jungkook only used it in his second year so far, when Namjoon and he missed the train because Namjoon managed to get them stuck in the vanishing cabinet used for Defence against Dark Arts class. Namjoon apparently broke the whole mechanism upon touching it once.

“Why on earth would he want to escape Hogwarts?” Jungkook snorted and gestured them to slowly move closer, “To go home to his parents and cry because he’s so scared? To visit Caroline because he misses her so much? He’s Slytherin’s prefect for Merlin’s sake –“

Jungkook stopped in mid-sentence and they all watched Yoongi taking a good handful of floo powder out of the flower pot above the chimney, before throwing it in the fire.

“St. Mungo’s Hospital,” he declared with a loud voice and then stepped in the flames, his figure vanishing quickly.

There was a silence and Jungkook’s eyes widened comically. “So he does miss Caroline …?”

Jimin groaned and dropped on his feet, burying his face in his arms. “I so knew it,” he declared, voice muffled through his arms, “He’s sad because she’s not by his side. Caroline’s only gone for two hours, but he already misses her so much because she’s his significant other and –“

Taehyung thwacked the back of his head. “Pull it together, soldier!”

“Yeah Jimin, enough with this ,” Jungkook reached out and closed his hands around the flower pot, “There’s still enough for the three of us.”

“You want to follow –“ Jimin’s voice cracked several times, “No please, I still keep on having nightmares from St. Mungo’s because of the time I had to visit when I had dragon pox in first year.”

Taehyung furrowed his brows. “I remember, you almost passed that on me.”

“Dragon. Pox.” Jungkook snorted and shook his head, “Well, we can stay here because of your personal nightmares, or go and help Yoongi, because I don’t think he breaks that many rules to simply visit Caroline.”

“What if he loves her though?” Jimin said with wide eyes.

“He loves you, idiot,” Taehyung said.

Jimin’s face flushed all kinds of red and he bit his lower lip, a wide smile spreading on his lips until Jungkook rapidly shoved the flower pot in his arms.

“Then let’s go. Don’t miss the right fireplace!”

Jimin scrunched up his face, then threw a hand in the fire and squeaked: “St. Mungo’s hospital!”

He vanished a second later, leaving Jungkook together with Taehyung. The Gryffindor bit his lip, hands clutching around the flower pot, and turned to Taehyung.

“Let’s get this settled before we go,” he started, “Since I have no idea how this will turn out anyway.”

Taehyung tilted his head and nodded slowly. “Um, ok?”

“Kim Taehyung,” Jungkook took a deep breath and stared right at the other, “After today – I want you to be my boyfriend. And with boyfriend, I mean my lover. As in the person I love.”

Taehyung simply stared back at him. He blinked, once, twice, and Jungkook felt like drowning himself somewhere because this was not the reaction he hoped for. Taehyung wrinkled his nose, and there’s clear confusion on his face.

“But,” he started and furrowed his brows, “You kissed me – that day, in the library. I thought, that was  already it.”

“That was what?” Jungkook asked.

“I mean, you don’t kiss anyone, do you?” Taehyung bit his lip and stared down, but the blush covering his cheeks was evident nevertheless, “I thought you told me you liked me already back then. I mean, you do, don’t you –“

Jungkook closed the distance between them and kissed him. He smiled, hand coming to naturally settle on Taehyung’s neck, and pulled him closer. The kiss was warm and sweet and Taehyung’s eyes naturally fluttered close, tilting his head for Jungkook to deepen the kiss.

It was maybe not even half a minute, maybe two hours, and Jungkook only stopped to lean back and whisper against Taehyung’s lips: “I do like you. So much.”

A bright smile formed on Taehyung’s lips. “I’m glad. Because I like you, too.”

“Forget it,” Hoseok shook his head rapidly, “No way in hell I’m going down there. Definitely not. Nope, nope, nope.”

“For Merlin’s sake, Hoseok!” Xero snapped and gave his back a nudge, “You're the only one left! Do you really want to leave the rest hanging like that?”

“What the is going on up there?” Seokjin yelled from the bottom of the dark pipe that opened behind the sink where he, Namjoon and Stephanie just vanished, “Hoseok, where are you?”

“Have fun by yourselves, I’d rather not die yet!” Hoseok shouted back, “I’ll give your regards to your parents, promise!”

There was a growl and Hoseok jumped in panic because he thought the dragon came to kill him, but turned out it was Seokjin. “You ing jump in here right now! Didn’t you agree on this just seconds ago?”

“Well, I didn’t see how dangerous this was before!”

“Everything is black! How do you even see a thing?!”

“Exactly!” Hoseok yelled and his grip around the sink tightened, “I won’t go in there for sure –“

Xero rolled his eyes, and reached out to push the prefect’s back. There was a serious of screams from Hoseok, before he landed with a hollow sound on the ground. Hoseok cursed rapidly, and Stephanie apparently gave him a beating to “man up, will you?”

“Good work, Xero!” Seokjin shouted back to where he was waiting, “Wait at the entrance for about one hour now – if we don’t come back by then, immediately get some teachers!”

Xero bit his lower lip, and checked the cold bathroom over his shoulder. The faint light gave it a definitely eerie atmosphere. Waiting up here?

“Negative,” he said and took a deep breath, before stepping right into the pipe.

The next second, he landed cat-like on the muddy ground next to Hoseok in what seemed like a long, dark corridor. There was water running somewhere in the background, and the whole light had a slight green taint.

Seokjin furrowed his brows and gave Xero a dirty look. “I’ll give you detention for that alone after we’re done here, just so you know.”

Xero rolled his eyes, and quickly jumped up, patting the mud from his robes. “Do you really think you can just enter the Chamber of Secrets without a parselmouth by your side? This is still built by Salazar Slytherin himself, you know?”

“He has a point,” Namjoon stated and patted Seokjin’s back, “Come on, don’t fight. The sooner we’re done with testing the waters here, the better right?”

“Stop with your metaphorical nonsense,” Seokjin muttered, but accepted the hand the other offered him.

Namjoon smiled and wrapped his hand tightly around Seokjin’s, his other hand reaching out to hold Stephanie’s wrist.

“Let’s all stay together,” Namjoon said slowly while they carefully walked down the small corridor, “I'm not so sure about the culprit behind all of this, but if there really is a dragon, I don’t doubt it’ll attack us instantly. There is no possibility to win against a dragon, but do remember the most vulnerable point of dragon are its eyes! It’ll get undoubtedly even more aggressive if we attack it though, so do this only in emergency situations!”

“An emergency situation is not you being scared less, Hoseok,” Seokjin said and gave the Hufflepuff a glare, “Preferably stay behind us – Xero, you too! The chance of Hufflepuffs dying is always extremely high.”

Hoseok looked even more scared after that, Xero even more annoyed.

Stephanie gave Seokjin a nudge. “Enough with the side remarks now. Let’s go inside this Chamber, shall we?”

“Xero, it’s you we need for this,” Namjoon declared and looked up from the huge metallic door that was the end of the corridor, several snakes draped around it, “I can’t figure out a way how to open this besides parsel tongue.”

Seokjin muttered something that sounded like a curse, Stephanie pressed a hand over and Hoseok reached out to rest his hand on Xero’s shoulder. This time, Xero didn’t remove it. He closed his eyes briefly, trying to prepare his nerves for what was about to expect them inside, and then opened his mouth:

Open.”

There was a loud clung, and then the snakes started moving. Hoseok’s grip on Xero’s shoulder immediately tightened, and both Namjoon and Seokjin pushed Stephanie behind them. All of them watched in horror as the snakes slowly finished winding their way around the door and then, the door swung open.

There was no way to prepare themselves for what expected them.

Everything was dark. Jungkook didn’t know what he expected, since his last visit to St. Mungo’s was ages ago, but the complete stillness didn’t sit well with him. He expected people buzzing around, loud voices and shouting. Instead, he was greeted by complete silence, and very faint light. He stood still in what looked like a long, dark corridor and instinctively reached out for his wand.

Lumos.”

A second later, Taehyung appeared right behind him.

“What’s going on?” he asked and coughed out ash, “Where is Jimin?”

“I have no idea,” Jungkook mumbled and put a finger on his lips, “Stay quiet. Let’s go looking for him.”

Taehyung gripped tightly on Jungkook’s sleeve while they hushed down the corridor, passing a few patient rooms. They heard muffled voices through the closed doors, but Jungkook absolutely did not intend to stop for a chat. Where did Jimin go? He definitely didn’t look like the type to go exploring on his own, so –

“Two options,” Jungkook whispered, “Jimin ran into something dangerous and is in deep trouble – or Yoongi caught him.”

“Why do I feel like it’s the latter,” Taehyung muttered and bit his lower lip when Jungkook stopped at the corner, “Can you see them?”

Jungkook took a deep breath and pressed his lips together, before taking a careful glimpse around the corner. He blinked once, twice, and then groaned.

“For Merlin’s beard –“

“Yeah, for Merlin’s beard Jeon Jungkook,” Yoongi snorted and dragged Jimin by his collar behind him around the corner, gesturing all three of them to hide behind it, “What on earth are you guys doing here!? Distracting Mr. Filch is one thing, but this, this is really dangerous! You better leave right now and go straight back to Hogwarts or –“

“Or what?” Jungkook crossed his arms, “This is not Hogwarts, you have no power to order us around! I don’t know what you’re doing, but we want to help!”

“Yes!” Jimin declared immediately, “Yoongi, we really just want to help –“

“Forget it!” Yoongi hissed and raised his arms, “I don’t want any of you involved. Seriously, this is already dangerous enough, I don’t need you messing around too!”

There was something in his eyes that made Jungkook halt, and it took him a few second to realise it was pure panic. Min Yoongi, cool and relaxed prefect of the Slytherins, was scared, so very scared. Scared for what was about to happen to them, or someone else?

“Is this because of Caroline?” Jungkook whispered slowly and tugged Taehyung closer to his side, “Are you here because of her?”

Yoongi pressed his lips together. “Caroline – I fear she's in great danger. But this is seriously none of your business –“

Suddenly, there was a loud bang coming from the end of the corridor, and all of them immediately jumped. It sounded like something heavy fell to the floor, or something big cracked into two halves, or –

Yoongi’s head immediately shot up. Now, he looked absolutely mortified. “Caroline!” he hissed and turned around, face white in panic while he sprinted down the corridor.

Jungkook exchanged only a quick glance with the rest, before they immediately followed him.

I’m back *throws confetti* And it’s just an useless chapter with another annoying cliffhanger, huzzah. No, seriously, I’m really sorry guys but I want to slowly built up all the that is definitely about to go down in the next chapter. Like down down down. Like I probably build up so much excitement right now it’ll be one huge disappointment, oh well ….

Are you ready for the dragon? Are you ready for whatever Yoongi plus maknae line are involved? I totally hope so. Stay tuned lovelies ~

Chapter 27: Damn. Your story is super-duper good. Amazing fics you got here. It's not complicated like a real Harry Potter novel but you make it absolutely pleasant for a reader with limited English like me. The plot is not complex and I enjoy it very much. Don't make me start with the characters please. They're so many but you make a good portion for them to come out nicely and the couples, gosh, they're adorable. It's almost two years, yes, but you make it worth time if this is the result for waiting. I highly hope that you make another sequel for this. Please~ ^^ Thank you for the great fics. I enjoyed it very much. >_<
