Fany hurries toward the entrance, trying to keep the joy on her face in check with minimal success. Outside the door, she passes Yoochun, hanging out with several of his basketball teammates.

Yoochun: Yo, Tiff. So. You and Kim Taeyeon together?

She shrugs, non-committal, but can’t entirely hide a smile, as she hurries inside to her dads table and slides in.

Fany: Sorry I’m late. Biology project.

The waitress sets up a top sirloin steak in front of Seung-gi and plate of spaghetti in front of Fany. 

Seung-gi: Ordered you spaghetti. 
Fany: Order one for yourself next time dad. You should cut back on the steak.
Seung-gi:I’m healthy as a horse.
Waitress: Say Chief, boys want to know, you find anything? 

Seung-gi is aware of the people at the counter listening, too. He frames his answer carefully to keep everyone calm.

Seung-gi: The suspect’s moving east. County Sheriff is taking over from here. They’re putting extra guys on.
Waitress: Hope they catch him fast.

She moves off, with a measure of relief. Seung-gi and Fany pass each other the salt, butter for bread, etc., with an easy rhythm now.

Seung-gi: Your friends are flagging you.

She turns to see Yoochun and the guys horsing around outside, straws in their noses, making faces at her. She smiles.

Seung-gi: It’s okay you wanna join them. I’m just gonna turn in early anyway.
Fany: Yeah, me, too.
Seung-gi: It’s a Friday night. Go out. The Yoochun boy’s got a big smile for you. Nice family they are. 
Fany: He’s just a friend.
Seung-gi: None of the boys at school interest you?
Fany: We’re not really going to talk
about boys, are we?
Seung-gi: Just... you should be around people. I leave you alone too much.
Fany(with genuine affection): I’ve never minded being alone. Guess I’m a lot like my dad that way.

Seung-gi smiles. These two have come a long way. The waitress returns --

Waitress: Berry cobbler, and two forks.

She sets it between them. Both of the reach for the forks.
