Restaurant- Front Entrance
Kahi and Uee exit the restaurant as Fany approaches.
Uee: Where were you!? We left you a dozen of messages.
Kahi: We waited, but we were starving --

Then they see Tae behind her, climbing out of his car. They freeze, agog. He’s composed now, making an effort to be charming. And they are charmed.

Tae: Sorry I kept Tiff from dinner. We
ran into each other and got talking.
Kahi: I - we - understand. We were
just... leaving, so --

The two girls start to go. Fany is forced to go with them.

Fany: Okay, well. Thank you.

She starts to follow the girls. Tae is torn to ask her, then abruptly --

Tae(abruptly): Maybe I should make sure Fany gets something to eat. (looking at Fany surprised look) If you’d like. Then I could drive you back myself.
Uee: That’s so... thoughtful.
Kahi: Really thoughtful.
Fany(debates, then decides): I could eat.

As he guides her off, the two girls share a look, and a noiseless scream of excitement.
They walk into the restaurant and get escorted to their seat. Fany and Tae sit on the deck. A dramatic waterfall shimmers behind them. A waitress places a steaming plate of mesquite roasted salmon in front of Fany and nothing in front of Tae. She exits.

Fany: You’re not eating?
Tae: I’m on a special diet. 

She looks at him curiously as she takes a bite.

Fany: So how ‘bout some answers?
Tae: Yes, no. To get to the other side,

Fany: I didn’t ask for the square root of--
Tae: You knew that?
Fany: How did you know where I was?
Tae: I didn’t.

She shakes her head, frustrated, and turns to get up. 

Tae(stops her, sincerely): Don’t go.

He seems torn by some internal dilemma. Then Fany asks. 

Fany: Were you following me?
Tae: I feel very protective of you.
Fany: So that’s a yes?
Tae: Yes, I followed you. I tried to
keep my distance...until you needed help.
Fany(putting everything together): You said before... That you heard what those guys were thinking... Can you... read minds?
Tae(shrugs): I’m thinking of getting a nine- hundred number.
Fany(trying to grasp):Alright, so you read minds... What am I thinking? Wait -- okay now, go.
Tae: I have no idea. I can read every
mind in there, except yours. (points at people inside) Work, , money, , , boyfriend. (points at Bella) Nothing. It’s quite frustrating.
Fany: Why, what’s wrong with me?
Tae: I tell you I read minds and you think there’s something wrong with you?

He smiles, charmed by her. But his smile fades, that torn look returns. He holds onto the rail, looking out.

Fany: What is it?
Tae: I... don’t have the strength to
stay away from you anymore. 

She’s surprised. And thrilled.

Fany: Tae, you don’t have to.

He’s drawn in by her encouraging gaze... but he closes his eyes a beat, and turns back to the water.

Tae(almost to himself): This is wrong.
Fany: Tae --
Tae: You’re cold. We should go.

He walks away before she can ask any more questions...
