Chapter 22

She had no idea about how she got herself into this situation. She was sitting on a chair in the middle of an almost empty room, where even her breath could make an echo. Her hands were gently folded in her lap as she looked around and waited for something to happen.

The room was huge with tall pillars holding the ceiling. Rows of small windows, which barely let any light in, covered the edge of the rooftop and gave the room a kind of empty feeling. A long table that was surrounded by a couple of chairs stood in the middle of it all, while pair of old armchairs had randomly been placed here and there.

It was the door that opened that caught her attention. The man she had seen at Hyunseungs house was walking towards her with long and fast steps. It wasn’t until he stood right before her, that the stopped to look down at her while his hands were placed in his pockets. 

She barely dared to look up as she felt the intense glare on her.

“Let’s talk,” he said and grabbed the back rest of the nearest chair to pull it over. With an almost relaxed posture, he sat down and crossed his arms, looking straight at her, not missing a single movement from her. 

“What do you wanna know?” Hyuna asked and crossed her arms as well as she leaned back into the chair.

So far, she had no idea if she could trust them or not. She had no plan and no idea about  what to do. She had considered that they might stab her in the back in that second she told them were Hyunseung was, but at the same time, she didn’t really have anything to lose. If they could get Hyunseung out he would be able to defend himself and get away.

“Why is Hyunseung with a petite girl like you?” He asked and leaned forward with his elbows resting against his knees.

For a second Hyuna felt her heart skip a beat. That wasn’t exactly what she had expected to hear, she had been preparing herself for a question like: “Where is he?!”

“Beats me,” she answered and looked directly into his eyes. “I’ve been wondering about the same thing for quite a while now”.

He once again leaned back on the chair and looked at her for a second before a sigh escaped his lips. He bit his lower lip as his eyes wandered around the room, obviously considering his next word carefully. 

It was now that she started to study him. He was tall and lean just like Hyuseung, except for the fact that he wasn’t slender like Hyunseung. He had a thick brown-black hair, which was nicely styled. His eyes were feline, but not as much as the other guy she had met in the alley. They were a very intense dark color, which made her understand why some people might have gotten scared of him in the past. 

“Hyunseung has always been weird,” She heard him mumble.

He looked a bit conflicted as he ran a hand through his dark hair.

“You used to be friends,” she said and looked at him as his eyes met hers. She was pretty sure, that she just made it harder to get some information out of him. He looked like he was ready stab her to death or even strangle her. 

“He isn’t worth keeping,” he said and suddenly stood up so the chair tilted back and hit the floor with a loud noise. 

“He told me everything,” she said, feeling a bit more confident. “He misses you”.

“Yeah, sure,” he mumbled and started to walk around, arms swinging back and forth. It wasn't until he reached on of the chairs on the other side of the table, that he stopped. His shoulders were tense as his hands were placed against the table. 

Hyuna stood up as well and followed him towards the long, empty table. She didn't stop, until she was sure that he could hear her. Her hands rested on the back of a chair as she spoke again: “What’s your name anyway?”

“Doojoon,” he answered and walked around the table with fast steps. 

She didn’t move. She didn’t walk away, she didn’t run. He was standing right in front of her, one hand resting at the edge of the table as he glared down at her, his eyes glaring straight into hers. She gulped.
Suddenly he leaned closer towards her, as his face was only a few centimeters away from hers. She could feel the warm radiating from him, which almost made her uncomfortable. It wasn’t Hyunseung. Only he was allowed to get that close.

“Where. Is. Hyunseung?” He asked.

She couldn’t help but notice the way his hand clenched around the edge of the table. With his other hand, he grabbed the side of the chair she held onto, his arm now resting against her back as he encircled her.

“He is-“

Suddenly the door was kicked open as she saw the guy with the feline eyes, rushing towards them. Two other guys held onto his arms, but he tore himself free and rushed towards them as his hands collided with the table with a loud bang. She almost jumped from the sudden noise, but did her best to stay calm.

“This is taking too long,” he yelled and slapped the other hand onto the table as he looked at Doojoon.

“Junhyun, relax,” DooJoon sighed and let go of the chair and table. “I told you to be patient… and you two...”

The two guys who had tried to hold Junhyun back, stiffened as they heard the voice from their, which appeared to be, leader.

“Should have done something,” he sighed and placed a hand on his forehead. A headache building up. 

Hyuna couldn’t help but smile as she looked at the four boys before her. The illusion of them being all tough suddenly disappeared. Doojoon looked like someone who was ready to give up on the three boys, while the two of them looked like they were ready to flee. Junhyun looked annoyed, but you could still spot a bit of uncertainty behind his eyes. Nobody would be the target of the leaders attack. 

“Where is Hyunseung?” Junhyun asked and looked at Hyuna, who slightly jumped under his feline eyes.

All of them suddenly looked at Hyuna, who felt her grab around the chair tighten.

“If I tell you,” she started and looked down at her feet. “I need you to promise me something”.

They didn’t say anything, they didn’t even move, but just stared at her. All of them expecting some kind of answer, which she knew they wouldn’t like.

“Don’t hurt Hyunseung,” she said and looked up. “You can say what you want to him, but after that we’ll leave without you trailing behind us…. Understand?”

“How dare you-“ Junhyun almost yelled as a hand landed on his shoulder. Doojoon looked at her, once again he had that questioning look in his eyes.

“Alright,” he said and gave her small smile. “We have a deal”.

Hyuna nodded, satisfied, but at the same time a bit uncertain about the answer. She knew that she couldn’t get some kind of signature from him that would make their deal official. She would have to trust him no matter what, and if he broke their deal, she would have to keep him back so Hyunseung could get a chance to escape. She had the responsibility now.

It only took them a few hours before she had been introduced to them all. There was Doojoon, who apparently was their leader. Junhyun who had quite a temper. Yoseob, who she had meet in her own house a couple of weeks ago. She also leaned that Yoseob apparently was an expert, when it came to breaking into peoples homes. At last, there was Dongwoon who was the youngest of their small group.

She smiled as she imagined Hyunseung in their group. They had been his family and his most trusted people, they had been the people that he had been vulnerable around and the people that he had been laughing with.

“We have two ideas,” Yoseob said as they all sat around the large table, staring intensely at Yoseob who now stood up. “We can either arrive in the middle of the night, where the place will be almost empty, or we can be there in the middle of the day… Where they won’t suspect us to show up”.

“How are we gonna get there?” Junhyun asked and looked back and forth between Yoseob and the small map they had placed in the middle of the table.

“A car, you idiot,” Yoseob growled and turned the map towards himself to inspect it. “The question is, how are we gonna go inside and what do we need?”

“We probably need some rope,” Dongwoon said quietly from the end of the table. His hands were resting in his lap as he slowly looked over the map. He almost seemed too relaxed as he inspected it, like he wasn’t filled with adrenaline like the others were.

“Ammunition” Doojoon said and pulled the map towards himself. “We can park the car in that alley and walk the last meters. If we happen to get caught we can just run, and maybe if one of us is lucky enough the reach the car, they can come and pick us up”.

“Sounds good enough to me,” Hyuna answered and tried to find some road that they could use. “What if… We just… attack?”

“No,” Doojoon said almost too fast. “That would be the most stupid thing we could do”.

Hyuna just nodded and looked at the map before her eyes traveled from the table to the boys before her. Her heart was beating fast as she felt her entire body being stiffened with excitement. Those were the people that she had trust from now on, they were gonna help her get Hyunseung back.

She felt a smile appear on her lips as she saw then draw small routes on the map with different colors.

Hyuseung… We are on our way!
