“Eli, so since you already knew that I was eavesdropping, I’m just going to straight out ask you this,” I mumbled in between bites of my food.
“Why, what’s up?” Our relationship - or should I say my perception of it - became more realized and less awkward after, back to how it was before, after our confrontation. I should have not acted so awkward.
“What did you mean when you were scolding Kris?”
“I was scolding him?” he scrunched his eyebrows in confusion.
“I left because you said you’d protect her and I should get lost blah blah blah but you didn’t you disappointed me,” I roughly quoted his words with air quotation marks.
“I didn’t say those words.”
“Not exactly, but you know what I mean. Hey, you know how bad my memory is,” I glowered at Eli.
“Yeah, yeah. But I don’t think I should tell you what happened.”
“Eli.”
No response.

He purposely looked away.
