I hopped into the dark, silent, and empty penthouse with my crutches under my arms. I guess Kris was not home yet…

I didn’t feel like eating so I just finished my homework, tried my best to take a shower with my right leg hanging out the bathtub, and prepared to go to bed. The minute I limped back into my room, the front door clicked open and then shut. I heard faint footsteps getting louder until there was a knock on my door.

“Jan,” Kris said in a low, husky voice from the other side. I disregarded him and shut the lights off.

BAM! Dammit, I accidentally dropped my clutches on the floor when I was crawling onto my bed.

“Jan! Are you okay?!” Kris ran into my room with a frantic look.

“I’m fine. I just dropped my clutches,” I emotionlessly answered.

“Let me help you,” he came to my side and supported me by the arm.

I inched away from his touch, “I said I’m fine. I’m tired. I want to go to sleep.”

“I’ll tuck you in,” he offered.

“I’m not a kid,” I drly snapped without looking at him and turned myself to face the wall.

“I-”

“I’m tired, Kris. Please, leave.”

“Goodnight,” he whispered and left my room.

After he left, I began replaying the events of that day in my head and unconsciously started sobbing pathetically.
