Another week passed. I couldn’t take it anymore. Not only was Kris ignoring me in school, he acted the same when we were home! I had to talk to Kris today. I absolutely had to.
It was lunchtime and Luhan left with Lay to save our seats. I turned to Kris, “Kris, we need to-”
“Yifan! Are you ready?” I looked up to see the phony smile of none other than Chen Xinyi. “Oh, Jiayi. What are you doing still here? Isn’t Luhan waiting for you?”
“None of your business,” I snapped. “Look, Kris-”
“I’m going to go eat. Come on, let’s go, Xinyi,” he stood up and sauntered away from me. Xinyi smirked and flipped her hair before following in Kris’s footsteps. Did he just...leave me for Xinyi? My throat clogged up and it felt as though I just drank a litre of vinegar. How could Kris just leave me like that? I thought we were best friends…
I barely paid any attention to my surroundings for the rest of the day. Luhan continuously asked me about what was wrong, but I dismissed each of his remarks of concern by putting up a fake facade and assuring him that I was just tired.
I was not lying though. I was tired - tired of everything that was happening.
However, gym that day brought me back to my senses. It was the last class of the day, and I was exhausted, but we were playing my favorite sport - volleyball, so I woke myself up from my thoughts.
To my distaste, the one and only Chen Xinyi was on my team. She was the first to serve. I had to admit, though, she was good at volleyball. The ball made it over the net perfectly and precisely hit the center of the court, where none of the opponents were able to hit it back in time.
She served again, and this time, the opposing team sent the ball back. It was coming toward the center of the court, to my left. “Got it!” I hollered and ran towards the spot where the volleyball was projected at, but before I could hit the ball, I felt a pair of arms on my left arm. In a matter of seconds, the arm applied force and I toppled over on the court, bending my ankle along the way.
“Ah!” Pain and stinging shot through my entire foot as I cradled my crimson-colored ankled in my arms. Pain continued to seethe through my ankle, as if complaining, “Why did you sprain this ankle
