I Fell in Love with My Best Friend
On September fifteenth, 1996, a young girl named Janice Ouyang was born. Both her parents worked; thus, they sent her to China so her aunt could take care of her.
When she turned six months old, her parents booked a plane ticket and packed all her belongings and necessities. On March sixteenth, the family of three stood at the check-in counter of JFK Airport. After confirming her flight, they stood at before the terminal waiting for the caretaker, who will accompany the baby girl on her plane ride to China.
“Hello, Mr. and Mrs. Ouyang,” the caretaker greeted.
“Hello, please take care of my baobei,” the solemn mother handed her treasured baby to the caretaker.
“Don’t worry, I will take perfect care of this darling.”
And off the caretaker went with the girl in one arm and their bags in the other.
After a calm twelve hour flight, the two landed in Beijing, China, and the caretaker handed the girl over to her relatives.
In China, her name became Ouyang Jiayi. Her parents became a mystery to her. Her aunt became her beloved mother.
Of course, every relative knew about her situation and knew of her parents. They simply did not disclose the facts of her life to her as they thought she was still too young to comprehend. Jiayi knew of the existence of her parents, however; she just thought they were strangers who gave her money and toys and clothes every once in a while.
She lived a supposedly peaceful life - that was until she was forced to leave the comfo
