Blame
I Fell in Love with My Best Friend
I was discharged after two days and I returned to school on the third day. Classmates were showering me with looks of sympathy and regret. Teachers were extra careful - perhaps they did not want another case of liability. But I did not enjoy this extra attention.
But I did get one thing out of this catastrophe: Kris actually cared about me now. I didn’t know why, but I felt so relieved to have him worry about me every other minute of the day and his concerns were much more comforting than those of Luhan or Lay or, even, Eli. It felt different. I guess I was just ecstatic to have my best friend back.
“Jan, come with me,” Kris grabbed my arm as I was gathering my books after eating lunch.
“Wha-” I began to protest.
“Just come,” he proceeded to drag me somewhere.
“Where are we going?”
“Just shut up and follow me,” he didn’t even spare me a glance.
“Kris Wu!” I demanded and resisted his grip.
“Janice, stop being a baby and just come with me. You’ll see.”
“Whatever,” I scoffed.
Hey, at least we were back to normal.
Somewhat.
“Yifan-” Xinyi halted when she saw me. She spitefully eyed my wrist that was in Kris’s grasp. I smirked.
“Xinyi, I believe you have something to say to Jiayi,” Kris monotonously claimed.
“What do you mean?” she chuckled nervously. She was not the only one confused - if she wasn’t faking it. I furrowed my eyebrows at Kris. What did he mean that Xinyi had something to say to me? What did she do? Or what did I do?
Then I remembered.
Xinyi’s smirk - did it have something to do with my asthma attack?
“I got permission from the school and I checked the surveillance cameras,” Kris stated.
Wait, what? Cameras? He went through all that work, even though there was no direct evidence pointing this to Xinyi?
“And?” Xinyi feigned innocence.
“I thought of you as a friend, Xinyi,” Kris sighed hopelessly and shook his head.
“Are you talking about what I think you’re talking about?” I looked up to Kris with wide eyes.
“Just shut up and let me do the talking.”
“Gosh, so bossy,” I scowled.
“Xinyi, just apologize before I report this to the school. I’m pretty sure that won’t do you any good,” Kris assured.
Xinyi simply scoffed and crossed her arms in response. What’s with this girl’s attitude? “What do I have to apologize for?”
