“You know what, Kris. I’m feeling so nervous right now, and I don’t even know why,” Yuri grumbled as she looked at Kris who was driving pretty quietly beside her. He removed his eyes on the road and looked at her. They manage to meet with his parents today for lunch at his parents’ favourite restaurant. But that was just a cover.

 “W-what? Why?” Kris asked, a little bit distracted. As a matter of fact, he is feeling the same way as Yuri does. The only difference is that he knows the reason why. His hands gripped the steering wheel secretly as he felt the small heart shaped velvet box on the pocket of his jeans felt hot, as if telling him; ‘I’m here! I’m here! C’mon, pick me up!’

Yuri crinkled her nose. “Are you asking me why am I so nervous right now, or, why I don’t know why?” she queried.

“Yes,” he responded.

She slapped his shoulder, pretending to be mad at him. “Jerk, you’re not listening.”

“Wasn’t I?” Kris asked, almost to himself. Yuri nodded. She was worried about his act today. He seemed jittery about something, too.

“Hey, anything wrong?” she leaned closer.

Kris smiled and shook his head. “Nothing wrong, nope.”

“Okay,” she mumbled and leaned on her seat.

Kris parked the car on a deserted street and he opened the car door for her. They walked hand in hand and Yuri examined the place. It looked like a village, a private aristocratic village perhaps. The scenery was vintage and gave the impression of a quiet and friendly neighbourhood. The houses surrounding the place were immense and beautiful.

“Where are we?” Yuri asked.

“Hush, Yuri. No questions for today, okay?”

She cling her free hand to his shoulder. “You’re freaking me out, you know,” she mumbled.

He laughed as he hurried his steps. Yuri admired his gummy smile more than anything. Seeing him crackle up, her tensed feeling relaxed and she laughed along with him.

“We’re going to your old house, aren’t we?” she blurted.

“How did you know?” Kris’s forehead formed a knot as his smile faded. It was suppose to be a secret. Had anyone carelessly spilled the beans on her? Luhan? Chen? Tao?

“Ah, so my presumption was right,” she said.

Kris grumbled something and stopped in front a huge towering green gate and pressed the door bell.

“I am so happy,” she sing-songed, probably teasing him.

“And why is that?” Kris asked.

“Simple. You failed.” She kicked a pebble out of her way out of unconsciousness. “And, I can read you like an open book. It’s something I can be proud of.”
