Chapter 53 – Appa

Recap:

You rolled your eyes “Not now, Jae. Maybe some other time, when we’re MARRIED” you went back to your pillow

“But-“

“No!”

“But-!”

“A-appa.. appa… APPA!!” you suddenly woke up from your sleep, realizing you were sitting up, sweating and panting hard

You looked at your surroundings and you saw Jaejoong beside you still sleeping peacefully

You sighed in relief “It was just a dream…” you mumbled

“Baby, why aren’t you sleeping?” suddenly Jaejoong woke up, he sat up, rubbing his eye

“Did I wake you up?” you looked at him and he nodded

“Mianhae…”

“It’s okay, but why aren’t you asleep?” he asked

“I just… had a bad dream”

“Oh... About what?”

You shook your head “It’s nothing”

“Jae, can you take me somewhere tomorrow?” you asked

He nodded “Sure, where?”

“A place”

He was curious but then shrugged it off “Let’s go to sleep” he hugged you and pulled you back

“Appa…”

You put the flowers in front of your father’s tombstone and paid your respects

Today was the anniversary of your father’s death

“Appa, how have you been? I’ve been good, appa. You don’t need to worry” you smiled

“Hyemi is too, she’s growing into a smart and beautiful young lady. I took care of her, just like I promised, appa…” tears started to form in your eyes

“And appa… I want you to know that I’ve found a guy, who loves me very much. He’s kind and caring, I wish you could meet him” you started crying

“I know you’d like him”

You turned your head to Jaejoong, who was waiting with Hyemi below a nearby tree

“Jaejoong-ah, Hyemi-ya!” you called

Jaejoong heard you call him, he picked Hyemi up and carried her to where you were

“Jaejoong-ah, I want you to meet my appa”

Jaejoong put Hyemi down

He kneeled down next to you and paid his respects

“Appa, this is the guy I was telling you about… His name is Jaejoong. He’s pretty, isn’t he?” you chuckled

“Abonim” he bowed his head “I will take care of your daughter, you don’t have to worry. You can leave her to me… I won’t let anything bad happen to her. Because she’s the most important thing in my life right now. And I will never lose her”

You softly smiled at him

“See, appa? Isn’t he such a nice guy?”

“Hyemi, come pay your respects to appa” you told Hyemi

You and Jaejoong got out of the way to let Hyemi pay her respects

“Appa, are you happy there? Is heaven a fun place? Can I go there too appa?”

You squatted down and her hair “No you can’t, honey. You don’t want to leave me and Jaejoong oppa here, don’t you?”

She nodded “But I want to see appa…” she started crying

You pulled her head closer and hugged her “Me too, sweetie. But we will, when God calls us to go there…”

The three of you went back home

You sat on the edge of the bed and Jaejoong followed you

He the back of your head and pulled your head to rest on his shoulder

“I miss him, Jaejoong” you hugged him from the side and began crying

“I know you do…” he said as he your hair

He let you cry for a while

“Sshh… Baby, don’t cry anymore…”

“Mianhae… I’m such a crybaby…” you sniffled

“It’s normal for a person to cry…”

After a minute, you finally stopped crying

Jaejoong had wanted to ask this for a long time, but he didn’t dare to ask it before. He wanted to find the right time

“Hyeri, what happened to your father?” he asked

You broke your hug and wiped your tears away

“It’s okay if you don’t want to tell me, I know it’s hard for you…”

“Ani, you deserve to know. You’re like my family now” you softly smiled

You began telling him how your father died

*Flashback*

When you went home from school, you found 3 men in black in the middle of the living room. Their backs were facing you

You quickly ran up to them. You had a bad feeling

You pushed one of the men’s leg so you could see what they were blocking. But the man was too big and heavy

The man noticed your little hands that were pushing him. He looked down and found you, he had black sunglasses covering his eyes

You looked back at him, your eyes showed fear

He moved a little to let you see

You moved closer

And you couldn’t believe what you saw

Your eyes widened in horror as you saw your dad lying on the floor. Lifeless and bloody

“A-a-… appa…?” Your lips were trembling as you slowly walked to your dad’s lifeless body with your legs shaking

That was when reality hit you “Appa!!” you cried “APPA!!!” you cried again, as if that could wake him up again

You cried on your dad’s body, gripping on his blood drenched shirt

The men just watched you with no pity at all

Then you turned your head and glared at them, still gripping on your dad’s shirt “What did you do?!” you growled

“Some things are not meant for children to know” one of the men said

You were guessing he was the boss, since he wore a different type of tuxedo

You stood up angrily “You bastards!! How could you kill my father?!!” you ran up to the, and started hitting that man’s leg. You were still too short to reach them

At first, he let you hit him. Of course, your hits were only like tickles to him. But then he grew out of patience

“You bastards! Low… inhuman bastards!!”

The man didn’t take your insults quite happily

He yanked your hair

“Aahh!!” you screamed in pain

Then the man slapped your right cheek until you flew near your father’s lifeless body

“You ungrateful brat! I gave your dad time! But he didn’t use it wisely! You should be thanking me I didn’t kill him earlier!” he yelled

Then all of them left you and your father. You were still crying and grabbing on your now swollen cheek

And your step mother was nowhere to be found

You couldn’t forget that man’s face. The face of cruelty, greed…

Evil

*End of flashback*

You finally finished telling your painful past

You were crying again

He hugged you closer

“And you know who was behind all this?” you asked bitterly “My own step mother, my appa’s wife. I saw that man gave my mother a briefcase full of cash. She sold him out, all for money. She knew our family was going to go bankrupt”

You scoffed “It’s sad. What makes me hate her even more is the fact that she only married my appa for money”

“Mianhae, Hyeri. I’m sorry for asking you what happened to your dad. I know it’s painful”

“No, it’s okay. My appa raised me to be a strong girl. And as I said, you’re like a family now, you deserve to know”

But Jaejoong still felt bad

He kissed your forehead “I will never let you get hurt again. Never”
