17th of July 2009 Grey clouds filled the sky covering every bit of light. Rain fell on the roof like stones. He sluggishly opened his eyes. He didn’t like thunder and lightning but heavy rain calmed him down. He focused on the sound of rain drops hitting his window. His whole body was aching from the beating he took last night. But it didn’t hurt as much as other days. Maybe it wasn’t like any other. He knew it was supposed to be different. He hoped it will be different. He looked at the luggage on the corner of his room. He did not take anything that wasn’t his but he took everything belonged to him. “Happy Birthday master.” He peeked his head out under the cover. His nanny stood with a tray with a plate and a bowl. The only difference was he was allowed to have breakfast in his room on his birthday. But today he wanted to have breakfast at the table. He hoped it would be the last time for good. “Thank you Tohru. I will have it with my father,” he said jumping out from the bed. He checked himself on the mirror. He was fourteen years old but his body looked like twelve. He had been starved as a punishment in his childhood. Later it became a habit to eat like bird. Tohru would always complained about his appetite. But it was not his stomach that felt empty but his heart. He was starving for love since he was a child but he knew he will never be loved as long as he lived in the same house as his father. His father was incapable of love. His mother took every bit of love when she left and he couldn’t blame her for leaving. When he went into the dining room his father was already seated and was reading the newspaper like any other day. When he entered his father looked at him and went back to the paper again. His father had a beautiful smile he had ever seen but it was never directed at him. He had seen it when there were female visitors. The place was brightened with lights despite it was the morning, the surrounding felt like evening. He silently sipped his soup but his ears were focused on the door bell. He was afraid his father would hear the sound of his heart beating like a battle drum. Every second felt like a year. Every minute felt like a century. They had a wind chime as the bell. His mother thought it would be nice to have such a beautiful sound to announce visitors. He never cared for it much before. But today he waited for it. The tiny sound of wind carrying the message of freedom. Finally it was here. He lifted his head from the bowl to see Tohru rushing to the door. Then everything was silent. He couldn’t hear what was happening at the main door despite his concentration. “Sir, a young girl is here wanting to talk to you,” Tohru took a quick glance at the boy “she says she is a friend of little master and she is here for him.” That made Park Taeil looked up from his newspaper. He was lost for words as he couldn’t believe his son, who wasn’t allowed to leave home had made a friend. A girl to be exact. Jinyoung was too scared to look at his father. He kept looking at Tohru who went back to get the girl. “What did you do this time?” There was a tiredness in his voice. Or was it anger? It wasn’t rage like other days. He feared what was coming. He knew he can’t hold Jinyoung in the cage forever. He was growing up in rapidly and the little monster was smart as well. A girl, most probably a high school student judging from her uniform entered and bowed deeply. She had black silky hair with bangs giving her the typical Japanese anime girl appearance. Her white shirt was neatly tucked into her short black plaid skirt. She wore knee high white socks with black canvas shoes. She carried a black messenger bag on her shoulder. “おはようございます。(Good Morning) Sorry for disturbing your meal. I have come to bargain for your son's life.” She said in perfect Japanese without missing a beat. Her pale skin, emotionless face and dull voice made her sound she was serious. Even Jinyoung did not expect her to be cut to point this quickly and it was the first he heard her voice even. “I don’t think I understand what you are saying,” Taeil said while taking a cigar from his pack and lighting it. “I have collected evidence, no your son has collected evidence against you for past four years. I have pictures of his bruises, his wounds, recordings to prove that you have abused your son repeatedly. I won’t hand over those to Police if you let your son go right this moment with me.” She took out a scrap book and held it up as a notice. “These are just copies. I have more at home.” Jinyoung couldn't believe how was she composed and calm while threatening an adult. She did not look anywhere else but directly at his father. She did not make attempts to tame down her words nor show any emotion. At one point he wondered whether she was a robot, one who recites what has been feed in to her. He dreamt of being her Knight but in fact she has became his savior. He slowly got up from the table. He was scared that his father would try to lock him up again. He planned for this escape since the day the picked up the letter he threw down from the balcony. They had to be discreet of their friendship where they communicated through rolled papers. She gave him a voice recorder and a cheap came
