Chapter 18

Jennie panted hard from all the running from the stairs she did just to get by Alex’s apartment as fast as she could. She got worried sick when Alex wasn’t answering her phone call. Luckily, their house were about 15 minutes away, reducing it to less than 5 minutes when she ‘borrowed’ a bicycle that was parked in front of one of the restaurants. 

All sorts of things ran through her mind as she remembered the guy that Alex told her about, she just hoped that nothing bad had happened or else she would’ve blamed herself from being late.

Just as she was a couple of steps away from Alex’s door, she heard the latter’s voice.

“What happened?” Alex was hugging someone, and by the look of it, Jennie assumed that it was Mina. Who else could it be? Jennie bitterly thought. 

They stayed in that position for a couple of minutes, while Jennie stood near the corner, watching them from a far. “And here I thought something already happened to you.” She was able to steady her breath, but she wasn’t able to steady her heart. “Well, at least I know that you’re fine.” Jennie mumbled, before walking away. She doesn’t even understand how she’s still able to smile and joke around Alex when all the latter did was hurt her, without knowing, that is. 

“Let’s get inside first.” Alex and Mina walked inside and head straight to the couch. Alex wanted Mina to talk about before she asks, so she just kept shut, pulling her girlfriend closer to her.

A long sigh coming from Mina made Alex feel worried. “My mom is going to transfer me to another school.” The heaviness in her voice was very evident, even Alex felt it. She had expected this to happen since finding out that your only daughter isn’t ‘normal’ would just disappoint. Although both were expecting it, they couldn’t help but feel the sadness creep in, as well as the fear of not being able to see each other again. 

“I wish it didn’t have to be this hard.” The problems they’re facing is making Alex think that she wouldn’t be able to handle what’s in store for them. She couldn’t help but feel like they wouldn’t last long, the whole world is just going against them, and she knows that what they’re doing is wrong. Especially now that Mina had run off from her home, and is staying at her place.

“Lex?” Mina looked up at Alex, who was playing with her fingers, intertwining it with hers. 

Alex stared back, giving all her attention to her girlfriend. “Mmm?” 

“I love you.” Her sincerity filled her voice, making the other girl’s heart flutter. It only took three words for Alex to feel complete again, and forget about all the problems laid in front of them. 

A heartily smile painted across Alex’s face, and her eyes are filled with love, she couldn’t ask for anything more. “I love you too.” 

They shared a comfortable silence together, with Mina leaning her head on Alex’s shoulder, having a feeling of ‘home’. She never had a ‘home’ to begin with, all she had was a huge cold house.

“Let’s skip school. Just for today. Please?” The idea wasn’t really that bad for Alex. She had actually planned to not go to school the other day just because she was too lazy. She’s not that good of a student anyway.

“I guess we can… I don’t feel like going to school too.” The image of Mina’s mom suddenly appeared on Alex’s mind, causing her to choke on the water she was drinking. “I’m sure your mom wouldn’t be happy if she finds out you didn’t go to school today.”

Mina’s mood turned 180 degrees as she got reminded of her mom. As much as possible, she would want to spend the day without thinking of her parents, her responsibilities, and all the negativity in her life. Alex must’ve sensed it as she decided to change the topic. 

“What do you want to do?” Although she knows that their options are very limited due to the fact that they couldn’t go out of the house, just in case one of Mrs. Myoui’s men is spying on her.

Mina thought of something they could do inside the house. “Ah! Let’s play tekken! You have that, right?” 

The couple thought that it’s an opportunity for them to spend time with each other, since they rarely get to enjoy or go out on a date. 

“YAH! YOU’RE CHEATING! I HATE YOU!” Alex shouted, glaring at her girlfriend for ‘cheating’. She had lost during the first two games and couldn’t accept the fact that she lost on the third one.

“Am not!” Mina defensively raised her hands, trying to stop Alex from accusing her, but the latter only insisted more. 

The control was left on the couch, while Alex crossed her arms. “You did! How come you get to win three games straight if you really didn’t cheat?!” 

“Because I’m a pro.” A smirk appeared on Mina’s face, irritating Alex even more. “Pro my . You’re not even——“

A knock on the door stopped their quarrel. Alex stood up, pausing the game, not forgetting to glare at Mina, indicating that they’ll continue right after. It actually made her wonder who would’ve come at this time when everybody is either at work or at school. Alex just wished that it wasn’t their principal or something. 

She looked at the peep hole first before opening her door, something Jennie had reprimanded her last night. 

“.” The word automatically came out of Alex’s mouth when she saw who was standing outside her door. A woman, short haired, sporting a casual business attire. She didn’t look anywhere near happy at all. 

Alex hurriedly made her way to the living room, trying not to cause any noise.
