Narrator's POV ~Flashback~ “No this is heavy!” “Yes, I know but it will keep you warm.” “I don’t want to wear it!” “It’s cold outside.” “I don’t want to!” “If you wear it I’ll give you this lollipop.” “Okay.” And that was how Wonho managed to sneak his dad out of the mental institute. Holding the candy up high, Wonho managed to make his dad follow him quietly out of the patient’s room and exit through the back door. “Give me now!” his dad tried grabbing the sweet treat. “I’ll give it to you in a minute,” Wonho promised. They still had to make it across the back fence where his car was parked on the other side. Legal or not, Wonho was resolute on bringing his dad out of here. He invested in a small condo near the border of the city. It had a nice garden and a full secrecy. Wonho also hired private care takers, he checked and double checked their backgrounds and after screening dozens, he finally found the perfect ones. He was determined to give his father the best. When they finally made it into the car, Wonho opened the passenger side’s door, “I’ll give it to you if you get in.” Obediently, his dad got in. Sighing in relief, Wonho closed the door and went to the driver’s side. “Here,” he unpeeled the wrapper and handed it to his father. To his surprise, instead of bouncing with excitement, the elder remained motionless while staring straight ahead. “What’s wrong?” Wonho also faced forward trying to see what his father was looking at. The next words out of the elder’s mouth shocked the life out of Wonho. “What the hell do you think you’re doing?” Not only was it a full sentence, but it was delivered so eloquently that it sounded like… like how his dad used to talk before his dementia happened.   Robotically, Wonho turned to face the man beside him, “D-Dad?” “Don’t call me that!” the elder snared as his face became red with rage. Seeing Wonho’s confused state, the old man burst into hysterical laughter. “Do you still not get it?” he barked, “Did your Grandmother never tell you?” “D-Dad stop it,” Wonho was scared that the workers would arrive if his Dad kept screaming. “No, no, you stop it,” his father glared at him, “Stop treating me like I’m six when I’m sixty, stop showing up like you care, and stop ruining my life!” “You…” Wonho was trying hard to grasp the situation, “You’re… you’re fine…” “Fine?” his dad questioned, “If by fine you mean I am sane, then yes I am fine but my heart will never be fine and that’s all thanks to you!” “Then… you were faking it,” even though Wonho expressed it as a statement, he was still waiting for an answer. “Oh so you’re not as dumb as your ty mother,” the elder smirked. Wonho felt anger boil within him and his knuckles went white around the forgotten lollypop stick, “Why?” he whispered. “Why?” his father scoffed, “Why what? Why I am feigning as a patient right now? Why did I go drinking everyday in the past? Why? Why of course it is all because of you.” His eyes narrowed and each of his words were spat out like venom, “Everything I did and do, it was all so that I wouldn’t have to see you Shin Wonho.” “What did I do?!” Wonho was yelling now too, “Why do you hate me so much? I’m your son!” “My son!” the old man screeched like a mad man, “My son! Yes, my son, the son that took away the love of my life, the son that destroyed my future,” he sighed, “You know, I used to be so happy with her. Sira, she was my high school crush who became my girlfriend and then my fiancé. If it wasn’t for your existence, she would be my wife right now.” He suddenly launched forward and grabbed Wonho by the collar, “It was one mistake, just one mistake. I have one too many drinks with my friends once, and had fun with a stripper once. I was supposed to never see her again and I didn’t until one day, she shows up on my doorstep with a protruding stomach.” “That’s your fault for not keeping your pants zipped!” Wonho spat at his dad, “You’re the one that cheated first!” “Shut up!” his father’s pupils quivered with anger, “If it wasn’t for you, my Sira wouldn’t have found out, my mother wouldn’t have known and forced me to keep you and raise you as the Shin heir!” He cleared his throat and mimicked the
