“Sally, right? Actually, he isn’t in a good condition right now.” Baekhyun’s manager answered with a straight face, still concentrating on the road.

I swear I was already expecting it and I was prepared for the worst but I was hoping a little to at least hear something miraculous.

My heart sunk.

I tightened the hold on Jesper as I hid my restlessness by watching out the car window. However, my palms were sweating like mad due to the tight grip onto Jesper’s tiny hand. I was beyond fidgety, only wishing to reach the hospital as soon as possible even though I knew there wouldn’t be anything that I could do being there. I just wanted to be there. Technically speaking, all EXO-L’s would want to be there, some for stalking purposes, some to show concern, some just wanted to see their bias.

As per contra, I wanted to be there only because the person who got into the accident, was the father of my son.

Me being antsy basically did no good to Jesper. He was even more confused as he didn’t even know what happened. I kept telling him that we would be at the hospital and he could see his daddy soon but the traffic was terrible, horrible, totally ridiculously vegetable. WHAT’S WITH ALL THE GODDAMN BLOODY JAM? I cussed in my heart and I couldn’t handle the tension anymore so I decided to text any of s to check on any updates.

[ I’m sorry to disturb.. Is the operation still going on? ]

I sent it to Suho since he was the person who contacted me. The reply wasn’t immediate. It was after a few minutes. Almost five. I supposed.

[ Suho: Yeah. He’s still in the operation room. ]

A tingling sensation sent up my nape and I ignored.

[ How long has it been? The traffic is bad here. Please tell me when the operation is done. ]

I typed quickly and replied instantly.

[ Suho: It’s been 5 hours. Okay. He’ll be fine. ]

Short and brief. I hope what he said would be true. I wouldn’t want my son to lose his father only after reconciling with him for two weeks. Death? I had never actually considered death as a possible outcome for Baekhyun, seriously. For years I had been a fan of EXO, I had always thought or at least regarded them as the being who would never die. Well, who in the right mind would actually imagine anyone dead at all until death stealthily approached its victim. Unless the person was one of our gramps who was very ill; and that I would not comment.

Now that this word had popped out in my mind, I didn’t really want to trust the likelihood of him brushing past Mr. Grim Reaper. To be honest, I had a bad feeling about it but the feeling wasn’t exactly that bad. I don’t know. I prayed to all the Gods I knew - Please keep him safe with us. Don’t bring him away. I was looking out the window and I finally saw the sign board of the hospital. I almost wanted to ask Mr. Manager to speed up and quickly pull off at the drop off area but I noticed he wasn’t intending to drop us off there. I held my words the moment I understood why. Just look at the crowd. He cornered and turned into another quieter route and drove into a hidden pathway. Is that like for the VIP-s. Probably. I asked and answered myself as usual.

He pulled off in front of the entrance and told us where Baekhyun’s operation room was before we got down. I thanked him and I left the car with Jesper. I ran a little but I couldn’t move too fast as I had to hold Jesper as well. We took the elevator up to the fifth floor as told by Mr. Manager. I carried Jesper in my hands as I walked to the reception to ask for the direction of the operation room. As I got there, I saw almost all of the members were there.

They looked like . No makeup, no sleep. Kai was dozing off but jerked awake when he heard my footsteps. I went straight to the person standing closest to me, furthest away from the operation room door. Leaning against the wall with his arms crossed, the frown on his face was intimidating. I slowed down my pace as I walked towards Chanyeol.

“Hey…” I thought I should at least get his attention first. He looked up and he nodded in acknowledgement. “Did you two fight last night?” Chanyeol asked. “No.” I answered. Dude, even I didn’t know why he was acting like an out of nowhere. “I don’t know what happened either.” I elaborated a little further.

“He didn’t come home. He wasn’t drunk. Record shows that there was a drunk driver who hit him and he wasn’t exactly focusing on the road so he didn’t get to avoid much of the collision. He’s usually very careful on road.” Chanyeol told me before I asked. “It was left at your text before it went off,” he continued as he passed me Baekhyun’s phone. Why is he giving it to me? I wondered even though I was already taking it from Chanyeol and keeping it in my bag.

The phone screen had a little crack and a few brown dots. Blood? I didn’t want to think more and I zipped my bag up. Xiumin came over and offered to hold Jesper for me and for once, Jesper did not reject a stranger. “You too, sit down with us.” Xiumin said to me, gesturing me to follow him to the allocated seats. I plumped down beside him and Jesper was staring at the light sign that says “OPERATING”.

I took the initiation to carry Jesper back and rested him on my lap. Jesper circled his arms around my neck and he lay his head down on the crook of my neck while staring at the light sign. “Mommy, what does that mean?” he asked. “It means the doctors are still trying to heal daddy inside that room. We’ll wait for daddy out here, okay?” I said and Jesper nodded. “Mommy, I’m scared,” he paused a few seconds and he said. “Hmm? Why?” I knew the answer. I just asked for no reason. I just wanted him to spill how he felt so he wouldn’t bottle up his feelings.

“I think something bad happened to papa.” he said. I was seriously considering whether or not I should tell him but I didn’t think a 4 year-old boy would understand it enough. “I think so too, but the doctors will definitely heal papa. Doctors have magic, remember?” I tried to comfort him. I didn’t think there would be a point lying to him about something bad had happened.
