It has already been a year since Mr. Yoon left looking for his former lover and Doojoon and his mom had never heard a single news about him. He was starting to doubt his father. He knew that it wasn’t a good idea at all.

On the other hand Hyoyeon and Eunhyuk got closer than before to the point that their friends thought that they were already a couple. The truth was Eunhyuk was already courting Hyoyeon but the latter still wasn’t sure with her feelings. They would both spend most of their time in the orphanage with Ha Eun.

“Heard any news about him?” asked Hyoyeon, she and Doojoon were currently having lunch outside.

“Nothing yet. I’m not even sure if he’ll ever come back.”

“I’m sure he’ll come back he said so himself so don’t worry.”

“How can I not worry? My mom’s been worried sick already and we’re both thinking that he decided to just live with his former lover.” Hyoyeon was startled it was her first time seeing him like that, he didn’t mean to raise his voice but the feeling he was having right now came over him.

“Calm down I’m sure he has his reason for not being able to contact you.” she held his hand and that made him calm down a bit. He was happy that Hyoyeon was there to help him.

“How are you and Ha Eun? Has the orphanage permitted you to adopt her?” he just decided to change the topic. He didn’t want to bring Hyo’s mood down as well.

“They actually told me that I can adopt her now and I’m working the papers already.” she beamed a smile. Doojoon got really busy with their company that he had no time to hang out with his friends. He was happy to see Hyo’s smiling face and to hear such good news. He felt guilty that he wasn’t there for Hyoyeon at a time like that in her life but she on the other hand was with him even if they would just talk on the phone. Hyo make it a point to call Doojoon once in a while, she didn’t want to totally lose contact with him and she knows that he needs someone who would be willing to listen to him.

“I’m happy for you.”

“Want to see her?” she asked. Doojoon didn’t have any second thoughts. He didn’t want to lose an opportunity on spending some time with her and it was a great way to keep his mind off of things even for just a few hours.

It has been a while since Doojoon last came to visit and he was glad to see the kids, whom have grown a few inches. As soon as the kids started to huddle over them he had a smile plastered on his face. Hyoyeon saw that he had a sincere smile now and his mood enlightened a little unlike how he was just a few minutes ago. They were happily playing with the children and with Ha Eun as well that they didn’t notice the time.

“Time sure flies when you’re having fun.” he said as they were both on their way home.

“It sure does.” Hyoyeon answered back.

A few more weeks had passed and Doojoon received a call from his dad but the news he had heard from him made him uncomfortable he didn’t know what to say. And before he could even reject it has already been decided. That night he and his mom were waiting in the living room for his father’s arrival.

When the door had opened it revealed his dad who had obviously lost a lot of weight he was thinner than ever. His mom greeted him with a warm hug and so did he. He also planted a kiss on her forehead. Doojoon can see that his dad at least missed her mom and it was a sign that he still had his family complete. That moment was broken when they heard someone cough and their attention was now on her.

The woman looked a little young, younger than her mom to be exact. She was pretty and Doojoon somehow found her familiar but the anger he was feeling made him shrug the thought away. He’s fully aware that the woman in front of them was his dad’s former lover. He also knew that she has nothing to do with his dad’s decision but the thought of his family being ruined just won’t slip his mind and she might be the reason of it.

His dad pulled away from his mom as soon as he remembered that someone was with him. He then explained that for the time being until they find their daughter she will stay with them. Doojoon’s mom gladly accepted her but he didn’t, instead he went back to his room making the woman feel less welcome and uncomfortable.

“Don’t mind my son you’re welcome here. He’s just having mixed emotions right now so please understand.” Doojoon’s mom assured her with a smile.

“May I come in?” she asked from the other side of the door after knocking. When there was no response she decided to come in. She saw her son on his working table busying himself with a lot of paper works. She sat on the chair placed in front of the table and held his son’s hands. He then stopped what he was doing and looked at his mom. “What you did was very rude.”

“How do you expect me to react? Welcome her?” he said in a sarcastic way.

“I didn’t teach you to act that way. Look honey, I know what you’re feeling and I’d lie if I say that I don’t feel that way but we just have to trust your father on this. We have already talked about this. Please don’t be so harsh on her, at least try and get to know her.” she tightened her grip on his hand.

Doojoon’s anger vanished once he saw his mother’s face, it was evident that she was hurt but she was trying her best to not show that and to keep a smile.

He nodded his head. “I won’t act that way towards her but I won’t promise you that I’d like to get to know her.”

It was yet another sunny day and Doojoon decided to take a walk in the park. He needed fresh air and some space, usually he would just relax at home but today he decided not to. He wasn’t ready to face that woman just yet.

“Doojoon is that you?” a familiar voice asked which made the said person turn his head around to where the voice came from. Once he saw who called him he had a smile on his face. “What are you doing here?”

“Just walking around and thinking.” he answered as he approached the person.

“Want to walk with me and Ha Eun?” she asked as she looked at the cute little girl who was on the stroller. Doojoon just nodded his head and they both started to walk.

“What were you thinking about?” she started they’ve been walking for a while in silence and so she decided to start a topic.

Doojoon sighed before answering. “Dad came back but with his former lover. To be honest I don’t want anything to do with them. I don’t want my dad to have any relationship with them. You can call me selfish but I just can’t seem to accept that fact. I know deep down that she’s not at fault but the thought of my dad being taken away scares me.”

Hyoyeon looked at him with worry. She knows that Doojoon is very close to his father since he grew up in his care until his dad became very busy with work that he got to spend lesser time with Doojoon.

She held his hand while her other hand was still on the handle of the stroller. Doojoon looked at her with teary eyes. “I may not know exactly how you feel since I didn’t grow up with any parents but all I can say is that you have to trust your father on this. I mean if he doesn’t love you and your mom then he would have not come back. Try to put yourself in his shoes, what would you do? Try to look at his perspective. He had a daughter he never knew, I’m sure even for just once he would like to see her.”

“I know that and I understand him. I’m just afraid to lose him.”

Hyoyeon tightened her grip on his hand. “You won’t lose him.” she then smiled.

Upon seeing her smile he also smiled and they both continued to walk and Hyoyeon had let go of his hand.

They decided to sit on the bench to rest since they’ve almost walked around the whole park. Doojoon was happily playing with Ha Eun when they heard a familiar voice calling out to them.

“Yo!” he greeted as soon as he was in front of them. “It’s nice to see you.” he added as he looked at Doojoon.

Doojoon acknowledged his presence by fist bumping into him. “It’s been a while.”

Eunhyuk and Doojoon started to talk with each other leaving Hyoyeon behind so she cleared to let them realize that she was still there.

“Sorry.” the both of them said.

They decided to eat lunch and it was Eunhyuk’s treat. Ha Eun was peacefully sleeping on the stroller while the three adults were enjoying their meal. Doojoon and Eunhyuk were mostly doing the catching up while Hyoyeon was just there listening to them.

“By the way has she mentioned that we’ve started dating?” Eunhyuk asked.

Doojoon looked at Hyoyeon then back to Eunhyuk. “No she hasn’t yet. I’ve been too busy to even listen to what she has to say and if we ever do talk it’s mostly about me. Congratulations.” he said with a smile. Doojoon felt weird he was sure that he likes Hyoyeon but why didn’t he feel jealous or hurt when Eunhyuk had said that? Does that mean that he didn’t really like her? Or maybe he’s been too preoccupied about his family problems that he didn’t feel anything at all?
