Bring Back The Past

Our Love Story

Hayoung's point of view:

"Where'd you go?" Joori asked once I climbed on the packed bus. " Uh… I forgot something back in the hotel room."I quickly made an excuse. She cocked an eyebrow, doubtful whether to believe me or not. Surprisingly, she dropped the subject and instead absorbed herself in her Daily Stars magazine.

As we drove off the  hotel parking lot, I couldn't stop myself from thinking of what happened. The small metal medicine bottle inside my coat pocket, I clenched it in my palms. Closing my eyes, I felt my face reddening, recalling what he said back in that room...

…………………………………………………………………….

"Hayoung?" Youngmin's voice was soft and comforting against my ear. After a long moment, he gently pulled away, looking into my eyes. Brushing a strand of hair from my cheek, he smiled. " There' s something I've been meaning to ask you."

"What is it?" I asked curiously. He was quiet for a moment, his forehead creased with doubt, but quickly he regained composure. " After the filming of the music video, when we return to Seoul… I want to take you on date. " My eyes widen, taken aback. " A d-date?" The words felt foreign on my lips. He nodded, his gaze looking downward bashfully. " Can we?"

Never had I ever imagined what it would be like to go on a date with Youngmin. It made me nervous just thinking about it. To be honest, I have never been out with a boy in my entire life, nor ever asked, and here I was… by the one boy that made my heart race a marathon.

Just thinking about it made my heart turn sweet and hazy. A date…. with Youngmin? It made my chest ache in wonderment just thinking about it.

Slowly, taking every ounce of courage in my body, I nodded my head shyly. Suddenly, he broke into a gleaming smile. " It's a promise then." Sticking out his pinky, he raise it towards me. Mimicking his pose, I wrapped my pinky around his, also not being able to help but smile. " A promise."

………………………………………………………………………………..

A sudden bump on the road woke me, regretfully pulling me out of the dream and memory. Yawning, I stretched my arms as I looked outside the window, observing nothing but greenery. " We're here Joori." I shook her softly, waking her from her beauty sleep. " Huh?" she asked groggily. " I said we're here. We're getting off soon."

She grunted in disappointment, also wanting to remain in her dream world. " Okay everyone! Time to head out." Mr. Yong bellowed outside the bus.

Kwangmin's point of view

"Take this camera with you." Dong Hyun handed me his new expensive nikon camera carefully, doubtful whether he should trust me with his prize possession. " Hyung, I thought nobody can touch your camera." He nodded, but then sighed. " I know, but I have to help carry the equipment up the trail and I won't be able to take pictures. I'm trusting you to take some for me."

This time I eagerly accepted his request, secretly wanting to use his camera since he bought it a couple days ago. As Dong Hyun was called by Mr. Yong to carry the cooler, I began to fumble with the settings, curiously exploring the camera. Aiming it pointlessly, I began to take pictures of the trees, stones, and roads that s up the entrance of the trail when I paused at a sudden subject that caught my eye.

Snap.

Glancing at the screen, I stared at the still image of Hayoung smiling gently at Joori. Feeling my heart stutter, I took the camera again, aiming it at her as she brushed her hair back. Snap.

Studying the image, I bit my lip, wishing it would be as easy as taking a picture. Having her printed on a glossy sheet of paper, forever mine. KnowinG it was silly to have such ideas in my head, I pushed it out of my mind, not exactly gone, but at least not the center of my thoughts.

………………………………………………………………………………….

Youngmin's point of view

I couldn't believe it…. I had finally did it. Since christmas, I had wanted to ask Hayoung, but it had just never been the right time, plus there was that concern that she didn't feel the same way. At first, I had planned to ask her, pretending it was just on a whim, just in case she refused, but when she said yes…it was as if my heart had lifted off the ground and was sprouting wings.

I didn't know when was the last time I looked this forward to something. A date… with Hayoung. Flashes of images in my mind began to appear, scenes of drinking coffee in a small cafe, staring out at the window as we admire the snow from behind the glass. Walking down Seoul hand in hand, not caring what people thought or how they reacted. For the first time, it was the opportunity for us to be true to ourselves, for us to be lovers.

Lovers.

I could feel my cheeks reddening from the sound of the words. How could it sound so new and strange yet so right at the same time. Nowadays, everything was new to me. These emotions were something I had never felt, even when I was with Marie. There was never this fluttering giddiness when I was with her, the way my chest was now whenever I thought of Hayoung.

I wasn't used to these emotions but… I didn't hate it.

………………………………………………………………………………..

Hayoung's point of view

"Okay! Everything is set to go and ready. As we begin the trail, make sure not to wander off. The springs is about an hour and half walk from here, so make sure to stay with the group." Mr. Yong started up the mountain as my ears perked at the words "springs." Minwoo being the closest to me, I ask him what Mr. Yong meant.

"The filming set is going to be in a famous hot springs resort that is known for it's huge mineral steam pools. Thats why we packed for an over night trip, its still a vacation after all." Minwoo's gleaming face radiated his happiness similar to a child looking through the glass of a candy store.

Looking around, I suddenly realized that Marie was not here. " Hyun Seong, where is Marie?" I asked, wondering why it was so quiet and peaceful. Sighing, he stepped over a large stone with an annoyed expression. " The prima donna didn't feel like walking so she's taking the long way through the other side of the mountain by car." Shaking his head, he silently cursed her spoiled upbringing. Chuckling, I couldn't help but find it amusing.

She had been the one to worsen my injury by kicking me, hoping it would stop me from coming, but knowing that it did nothing, she probably didn't want to see me, realizing I was tougher then she had originally thought. It made me somewhat proud I chose to come. I just felt bad for the poor driver that was trapped under Marie's temper and control.

Lost in my thoughts, I almost didn't realize Youngmin come up from behind. " How are you?" He whispered enough for me to hear. Smiling, I nodded. " I sprayed some on before we left the entrance. I feel fine."

"If you ever feel any discomfort, tell me all right?" He warned.  Laughing out loud, I sighed. " I will, but I feel as if you are more in a panic then I am. I'm a lot stronger then you think, Youngmin." I said cheerfully. Halting he stared at me surprised. " I… I guess you right." Chuckling, he laughed along, realizing he was acting like the over protective brother I never had.

………………………………………………………………………………..

The trail was long and tiring, but when we finally came to a clearing where a large waterfall stood before a golden door, it was all worth while. Inside, it was as if we stepped into an ancient japanese inspired palace with the rice paper walls and black and red decorations.

In the lobby, I sat down next to Minwoo, opening a cold water bottle. "  Noona, isn't it luxurious?" He asked, still with the same gleam in his eye. " It's really beautiful." I said softly, too focused on gazing around the interior.

" After dinner, we will start setting up, so you have an hour from now to freshen up and relax. Come downstairs to the back of the hotel for a complimentary japanese cuisine afterwards."

Once we all departured to our rooms, me, Joori, and coordinator unnie carefully walked through the tan hallway, stopping in from of a large rice paper sliding door. " This will be your room." A worker in a pink kimono slid the door open as my mouth hung open. It was a huge suit that was fully furnished with zen garden inspiration and ancient scroll writing.

Four sets of beds were spread out on the floor to the left while a large private pond and garden laid in the center of the room. The sound of water made me feel as if we were transported back to japan. Studying the unique bookshelves and cabinets, I realize there were four beds. " Excuse me, is there someone that is stay with us?" It was supposed to be only me, Joori, and unnie, which made three, who could have been the fourth person?

"The fourth guest will be arriving shortly. Please call for room service if there is anything you need. " As she left, I couldn't help but ask Joori this time. " Do you think it's Marie?" That was the only other girl I could think of. " Ugh! I hope not. That would totally ruin this trip! I don't need her to be ordering me around on and off camera." Joori exclaimed. " Now girls, be nice. Sure, she's hard to deal with but remember, she grew up not having friends. I'm sure she'll change if you two help her." Coordinator unnie's voice was similar to a parent's.

Biting my lip, secretly I too hoped it wasn't Marie that would be sleeping next to me. That would be a disaster.

………………………………………………………………...

After showering and unpacking, it was time for dinner. Downstairs, we joined the rest of the members in the outside dining garden. The garden was thick with asian flowers and bonsai trees, accented by a large koi fish pond. White tables with silver plates and crystal cups laid around a golden buddha center piece. Even though it was decorated with the initial feel of being extravagant and proper, it was surprisingly calming. Perhaps, the sound of the moving water was taking away my anxiety.

"How do you girls like it here?" Mr. Yong asked happily. "It's really beautiful." I complimented in all honesty. " Yes it is, isn't i-" Suddenly his phone rang, interrupting him. " One second." Answering the phone, he turned to face the other direction, as if looking for someone. " You're here? Where?" Gazing at Joori, I secretly asked if that could have been Marie. Shrugging, we both hoped it wasn't.

"We are in the garden, dinner is about to start." Hanging up, he sighed, " That kid can never follow directions, even if they are stamped and branded onto his forehead." Joori being the curious person she was, attacked him with questions. " Who's coming? You said "he", so it can't be Marie." All he did was smile and reply " a surprise."

………………………………………………………………….

Youngmin's point of view

Leaving the hotel room with Minwoo and Kwangmin, we found the others outside already. Spotting Hayoung and Joori, we approach them as I heard one of Joori's common rants. "What does he mean by a " surprise?" Her eyes were shining with curiosity. Raising an eyebrow, I asked what was causing Joori's sudden outburst.

"Mr. Yong brought another person, and he won't tell us who it is." Turning around, I searched for Mr. Yong who was on the other side of the garden, talking to Dong Hyun about the time schedule for tonight. Facing Hayoung again, I asked if she had unpacked already. Nodding, she sighed. " I think Marie will be staying with us too. In the hotel room, there was an extra bed. "

Tilting my head, I couldn't help but be surprised to hear that Marie would be sharing a room with three other girls. Knowing her, it wasn't in her character to do so. Suddenly, the doors of the left hall connecting to the kitchen opened. The delicious scent of food teased us as the waiters came around, laying down the plates on the tables. My stomach rumbled at the smell of fresh hot tempera, and fried pork dumplings.

Seated, it wasn't long before it was finally time to eat. Tasting the first thing on my plate, I bit into a shrimp covered in a mysterious white sauce that was surprisingly tasty, regardless for my usual distaste for shellfish. It was perfectly seasoned to a crisp barbecue smoke, but also had a little hint of citrus.

"I wonder what this is…" I mumble to myself. "That is sweet rice sauce with lemon zest." Hayoung answered simply. Surprised, I stared at her. "How did you know that?" Mr. Yong asked, pleased to know that someone understood his Japanese roots, yet shocked to know that someone as young as Hayoung could know about such an old traditional dish.

"In my previous school, I learned a few things or two about japanese cuisine. I used to study the different culinary cultures as a hobby." She smiled, recalling the memories. As I watched her expression become gentle, I began to wonder if she missed the orphanage….

"You should have been there Mr. Yong!" Joori exclaimed suddenly. "Last year, Hayoung made a traditional new years korean dinner, which tasted even better then this!"  Blushing, Hayoung held a finger to Joori, shushing her. " It was really nothing…" She said modestly.

"Well, regardless, I hope I get to try some." Mr. Yong asked eagerly. Regaining her composition, she smiled. " Of course. I'll do my bes-"

Suddenly she froze, her eyes widening. "Sung mi?" Her voice turned suddenly soft and questionable. Facing the direction she was looking at, I too felt the shock of recognizing a familiar face. Besides the mysterious girl was Minho.
