“Let me see him!” Krystal bolted inside the operating room. A nurse and an intern quickly held her back from getting near to the patient. She then saw her sister called for a defibrillator machine. The nurse quickly pushed it near her and took a gel and placed it on top of the paddles that Jessica had in her hands.

Tom was bloodied and gory looking, unconsciously, laying down the bed. “Clear!” Jessica shouted and everybody around the patient moved a step back. His body bounced in reaction of the high current running on the paddles. But his heart monitor was showing a flatline. Krystal could hear her sister gasp “No, no, no!” she uttered repeatedly “Tom, you have to stay alive”

Jessica then turned towards the surgical room’s door and she could see her sister. She was frozen in her place, “Get her out of here!” Her sister then shouted with a stern voice, she gave Krystal one last glance before Kyungsoo and a nurse got her out of the room.

All her thoughts only lead on saving Tom. Her bestfriend. She needed to save him or else her sister is going to suffer the same fate as she did before with Yiyun. She has his life in her hands. “Dr. Jung, stop. You’re going to break his ribs”, Dr. Song said, stopping her from continuing on pumping on his chest.  But Tom had already arrived a bit late in the hospital, he could be already brain dead, for all she knows. The flat line was an indicator. He was gone.

Jessica sighed heavily, “time of death 12:06.” She tried to keep her voice intact, her eyes had tears flowing down on them. Yuri then went inside the operating room, it was a quick and swift move, and Jessica was in her tight grasp. She was whimpering against her shoulder.

“Turn back time and save him” Krystal begged “Please”, when she saw the timekeeper appear in front of her. She was trying to keep herself from crying.

“I can’t” Yiyun replied, shaking her head in reply. Krystal then went closer to her furiously and punched the older girl. Yiyun quickly held her injured cheek and the punch of the younger girl kept coming, the short haired girl tightly held on the arms of the latter, to prevent her to do more harm.

Krystal was wailing, a sight that she remorsefully didn’t want to see. The timekeeper felt guilty. Yiyun then had her arms around the younger girl, stopping her from throwing any more hits at her. Krystal couldn’t move her hand and the warm liquid continually ran on her cheeks, her vision became blurred, asking “Why?”, telling how the timekeeper is a “Useless bastard”

“I tried” Yiyun continued “I went back...this already happened before and...I can’t let you die with him or your sister”

Flashback:

Yiyun found herself in a crowded area. The loud ringing of the of bells by a merchant, trying to get everyones attention in the middle of the road with the sun was shining brightly and she could smell the rich saltwater and the cold breeze from the beach nearby. Her eyes then quickly searched for the reason why she had to travel through time.

Then after a few quick turns, as her eyes looked for the familiar faces she then saw Jessica and Tom, their fingers were intertwined together and she could the see the happy smiles of the couple. She followed suit as the two entered a store. As far as she knows Jessica and Tom were in a honeymoon.

It was the usual tourist destination place and mostly known for it’s natural white sand beach area. The two then entered a jewelry shop, when Tom saw something that caught his eyes. A necklace, something he wants to give for the other to remember this happy day. He then cheekily smiled and dragged the girl in the store.

Yiyun quickly followed, keeping her eyes on the two. She passed through the door, like a ghost and quickly examined it. Everything happened quickly and a group of men came in the store, most likely known as a guerrilla group in town had another heist and this store was the target. Which coincidentally where Tom and Jessica were. A man from the group announced their demands, extracting formidable items from the the people inside the store to give their jewelries and money to them and the same goes for the store.

The masked man from the group held a black sack in front of a man, he hesitated to give his wallet and jewelry and put on a fight, Tom then quickly assisted the other and held onto the robber. Another man from the guerrilla group saw the conflict and shot Tom five times to which Jessica stood up in front of him and got the same share.

Yiyun couldn’t help but feel useless as she kept rewinding the scene to save the two but it always ended the same. Either they got diverted from the jewelry store they will always get in an accident or get in between a gang fight.

Then a bright idea light up in her mind and she quickly went back to the current timeline but this time Krystal and Tom were on their way home from their date. She was sitting in the backseat watching their hands intertwined with each other. She felt uncomfortable and it made her wonder why.

When she saw Tom and Jessica earlier, she didn’t felt anything. Watching them kiss and act all lovey dovey to each other but with Krystal she couldn’t help but stir and look away from the scene as she felt her anger rise up from her system.

Yiyun was trying to slow everything, redirecting their attention and so the car suddenly and smoke came out from the engine. She thought that maybe if Tom stayed a bit longer he wouldn’t die on a car accident.

“I’m just gonna go and check the engine” Tom said to the younger girl and Krystal nodded in response. She was a bit spooked though. They stopped at the darker side of the city. She then got out from the car and went to check with Tom who cursing under his breath

“Are you alright?” Tom asked in concern.

“Yea-Yeah. It’s just that it’s dark” Krystal replied. But Tom laughed and latched himself beside the younger girl “Don’t worry I’ll keep you safe” He said and gave her a quick kiss on the cheek before checking on the overheated engine.

A few minutes after another car came. A group of guys came in a van and offered help to the two. Krystal was starting to feel more scared. There was something about them that wasn’t right. There four of them. They then stepped out from their van and took a look at Tom’s car.

They then surrounded the two and Krystal had her hand gripped on Tom’s arm. She didn’t liked it cause she noticed how those men looked at her. But before she could blink Tom was wiped out of consciousness and she was held against her will.

Yiyun quickly stopped time. She never felt so worthless. She saw the scared look of the younger girl and she quickly turned it back to the way it was. The time where Tom got into an accident. She closed her eyes as she saw how his car hit the massive impact. She held her breath as she opened them once again and saw his head resting on the steering wheel. She then ran towards his car to check on him.

However, she was stopped on her track as she saw a reaper appear in front of her.

“What are you doing?!” the short haired girl yelled at the reaper and grimaced, when she saw the reaper on his soul, collecting it.

“The whole time...it was you” She said in disbelief.

“I wonder how long you’d notice” the reaper replied after taking Tom’s soul. “This is my revenge. A soul for a soul. Better yet, you should learn to know your limits” he continued before disappearing.

This was the cost of her brother’s life and there she was. Yiyun was staring at the crying Krystal. She felt sorry. She wanted to tell her that she knows what she was going through but couldn’t since Krystal seemed to lost everything she had. Her parents and now the love of her life.
