What is Super Junior?
Super Junior is the hottest Korean band out there. They’re a formation of 15 adorkable guys who break hearts every day. The very definition of Super Junior is bromance. They started as trainees and slowly worked their way up until they’re now at the top of the Hallyu Wave. Starting as a graduation styled band, Super Junior 05 quickly gained popularity and another member was added, leaving it as Super Junior. Over the years, the many albums have had varying degrees of success, but each setback, each triumph eventually led the boys to be what they are today. Super Junior Hwaiting~ ELFs ~

TIMELINE OF EVENTS
November 6, 2005 – Debut, performing TWINS (Knock Out), Miracle was used as a promotional
second single
December 2005 – Release of SuperJunior05 (TWINS)
May 23, 2006 - A 13th member was added, Cho Kyuhyun. There were much opposition which is
really ironic considering how he is now the top bias in Super Junior.
May 25, 2006 – The release of U, a single
November 5, 2006- Formation of KRY, consisting of what is considered the best vocalists of the
group, Kyuhyun, Ryeowook and Yesung. I personally think it can be KRYS (with
Sungmin) or KRYD (with Donghae)
February 23, 2007- Formation of Super Junior T, a trot group made of Leeteuk, Heechul,
Kangin, Shindong, Sungmin and Eunhyuk, releasing the ever popular
Rokkugo
April 19, 2007- Horrific car crash that almost made us lose Kyuhyun forever. Leeteuk, Eunhyuk
and Shindong were also involved. Kyuhyun was in the hospital recovering
for many months. This brought together ELFs all over.
September 20, 2007 – Release of Don’t Don. The music video featured Henry Lau, a member of
Super Junior M. This album won the “Bonsang” award
October 2, 2007 – Formation of Super Junior M. Perhaps one of the most successful groups, this
is meant to target the Chinese markets. It was composed of Hangeng,
Siwon, Zhou Mi, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun and Henry. The addition of
Zhou Mi and Henry led to a controversy known as “Only 13.” However, these two
members are greatly loved. (HenWook, HenHae, KyuMi, HeeMi) Always love 15
February 22, 2008- First ever Super Show in Seoul
April 8, 2008 – Release of Super Junior M’s U. This song shot them to popularity.
June 5, 2008 – Formation of Super Junior Happy. Made of Leeteuk, Yesung, Kangin, SHIndong,
Sungmin and Eunhyuk. This group released the popular Cooking Cooking
March 12, 2009 – The release of Sorry Sorry. This song made Super Junior popular all over Asia
as well as worldwide. The song and dance is now the epitome of the Hallyu
Wave. This album won the “Daesang”
July 17, 2009 – Super Show 2 in Seoul
September 14, 2009 – Release of Super Junior M’s Super Girl. This song remains to be their
most popular.
December 2009 – Hangeng’s lawsuit stopped Super Junior M’s activities as well as left a hole in
our hearts.
April 2010- Kangin enlisted himself in the Korean army
May 13, 2010- Release of Bonamana. This song is has been on Taiwan’s chart as number one for
61 consecutive weeks
May 17, 2010- Release of Victory Korea, voted one of the World Cup’s best songs on Sports
Illustrated
August 14, 2010- Kickoff of Super Show 3
February 11, 2011 – Release of Super Junior M’s Perfection. This new group consists of
Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Zhou Mi, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun and Henry.
February 24, 2011- Release of the 3D version of Super Show 3. This became the most watched
3D movie in Korea
June 8, 2011 – Release of Japanese single, Bijin
August 2, 2011- Release of Mr. Simple
September 1, 2011 - Heechul enlists himself into the army secretly. He didn't even give us time to prepare.
November 19, 2011 - Kickoff of Super Show 4
January 11, 2012 - Mr. Simple wins the GDA Daesang award
April 16, 2012 - Kangin returns, to the delight of ELFs everywhere. WELCOME BACK APPA
July 1, 2012 - Release of y, Free and Single
October 30, 2012 - Leeteuk enlists in the army. We've been knowing and preparing, this time.
Janaury 7, 2013 - SJM releases Breakdown
January 15, 2013 - y, Free and Single wins the GDA Daesang award, the third
March 23, 2013 - Kickoff of Super Show 5
May 6, 2013 - Yesung enlists in the army. We have lost our artful voice.
August 29, 2013 - Heechul returns, Welcome back Big Space Star
*2012-2014 –Leeteuk and Heechul leave for the army. If Kibum doesn’t come back, it’s only 8
members left.
2013-2015 – Yesung leaves. Only 7 members left
2014-2016 – Shindong leaves, 6 members until Leeteuk and Heechul returns
2015-2017 – The 1986ers leave, I cry inside. *If Super Junior doesn’t disband now, I think they’ll disband here* Yesung comes back, but now there are 5 members left.
2016 – 2018- Ryeowook leaves. There are still 5 members.
**2017- 2019 – Kyuhyun leaves, and Super Junior is almost whole again.
Will they last this long? I don’t know. SM’s smart. Super Junior is amazingly popular and is the head of the Hallyu Wave. They’ve been appointed as Taiwan and Korea’s tourism ambassadors. I know ELFs will keep waiting, but will Super Junior still want to stay together? The track list for the new album is scaring me. It’s all about memories, and breaking up and moving on. Is this what they want? If they disband, I’m leaving KPop. Super Junior is what keeps me here. But it’s the RETURN OF THE SUPERIOR. Let’s enjoy it.
